  1. Probably pulled something on that pitch that he stopped in mid delivery... Good call. Agreed
  2. Mostly a LOOGY. RH Batters have hit .285 with a .366 OBP in his career (.224/.285 vs LH Hitters) although in the small sample of this year he's been better vs both RH & LH hitters
  3. The Brewers position players look mentally and physically exhausted exiting the field. Big picture we don't have enough pitching right now to go deep in the playoffs. Hopefully they can get some pitchers dialed in and make a run....
  4. If you read up on the atmosphere at the U of Miami and all the steroids at that school during the time Braun was there, you'd have to be extremely gullible to think he wasn't juicing as a Brewer. It depends on whether (or not) you believe that most MLB players are on something, in part, as to whether or not you find fault with Braun. The whole drama over "I was innocent" etc and fighting the case, and getting off, and being caught again and suspended etc are why he is hated. That seems pretty obvious to me. Personally, I like Braun. I think a huge portion of players in MLB are on something. They just didn't attend a college that got investigated and/or use less, and/or are on undetectable HGH and/or are not targeted by MLB. There are even rumors that some star players have a doctor's prescription for HGH to treat a pre-existing condition. I don't know about all that.
  5. This season has been a strange one. I'm not sure who the Brewers are and what direction we are headed towards. The signing of Cain and trading for Yelich represented a desire for defense and players who make contact and get on base, somewhat of a change in direction (I thought) from the 3TO offense of 2017. Moustakas also represents that type of player (at least offensively). I applaud that direction, even if it is to balance out having too many 3TO players. Hiura seems like that type of player too. Lately the desire to cram as much offense into spots (Schoop is not a Shortstop, Shaw is not a Second Baseman, Thames is not a Right Fielder) while sacrificing defense seems bizarre and short sighted. We really need Hiura, Ray, Burnes & Peralta to develop into star players in order to have a realistic shot at contending (in my opinion). I'm not as optimistic as I once was about the Brewers' future...
  6. Fantastic! Thank you!!!! Yet another reason why Brewerfan.net will remain the very best place on the Internet for Brewers talk & info. I remember when I joined this site 11 or 12 years ago or so, back in the days when Bill Hall was superman and we wondered if Ben Sheets would ever win a Cy Young. I quickly realized I was in over my head a bit, because other posters had so much more Brewers knowledge than I did. I was put in my place many times, but it was done with facts & insight, never with put downs or insults. It didn't take long before the veterans here recognized that I was a genuine Brewers fan who happened to be a bit opinionated. I've been here ever since. The civility that is the undercurrent of what has been built here is indeed one of the greatest aspects of this place, I absolutely applaud the efforts to make sure it remains.
  7. Very disappointed that Mike Trout and the Angels won't be coming to Miller Park. Will definitely be all over Labor Day tickets to see Houston. I need to look closer, but it appears that there are some long road trips in the early part of the year. If we can get through May we'll have a lot of home stands in June & July.
  8. Brice Turang looks like the real deal. He should be ready by the 2021 or 2022 season or so... The Brewers need to hit on several drafts in a row. Corey Ray seems to have turned the corner. Hiura looks good. Yelich is bordering on superstar status. Cain is fantastic. The Brewers need Burnes & Peralta to take the next steps towards being reliable solid starters in 2019. Chacin & Miley are pretty good 4th starters. If Anderson, Davies, or Nelson can pitch well in 2019, we might have something. It is hard to say though, for sure isn't it? Lots of "ifs". Stearns has some tough decisions to make. We need to cut some dead weight.
  9. I think Counsell has done a great job as manager. He makes a few strange moves but what manager doesn't? The one thing I would blame Counsell for is giving up on Villar. It could be argued by some that giving up on Villar wasn't a mistake. I think it was (based at least on what I've seen and my very limited understanding of Villar's work ethic and attitude in the clubhouse. i.e. I could be wrong). Also, I could be wrong about Counsell giving up on Villar, for all I know Stearns told him not to play Villar.
  10. It is really awesome to see the start that Turang has had... .343 BA, .444 OBP, 9 SB's in 18 games... I like it a lot! I guess I didn't realize Turang was as fast as he is....went and looked it up and saw he ran 6.5 60's at Showcases. That is blazing fast! It is of course just a small sample size but he's off to a better start than many of the position players taken ahead of him....
  11. We've never won a World Series. The last time we even went to a World Series was 36 years ago! The national media won't take us seriously until we actually make a WS run. Historically, the Brewers have always found a way to mess things up. The last time we had a legitimate shot, we started Yuni B at Shortstop, and had a rookie manager starting Mark Kotsay in center field. Much of the country views the Brewers as a joke of a franchise. We don't get the benefit of the doubt. At this point we need to prove them wrong.
  12. Only casual fans are going to react like that, and truly who cares what the casual fans think? Maybe Mark A does in terms of beer & merch sales, but whether or not Schoop has a slow start in a Brewers uniform will not effect Mark's bottom line! Anyone who has been paying serious attention to Baseball in the last few years knows what Schoop brings to the table. They also know that Schoop is a dead red fastball hitter and thus they aren't going to be phased by a small sample of appearances vs Rich Hill & Clayton Kershaw!!!!!
  13. Even if/when Domingo gets it together, at the age of 34 Braun I think deserves the benefit of the doubt vs LHP in the playoffs. He is a proven clutch performer in the playoffs. Not everyone can deliver in the postseason. (Another reason why I'm thrilled to have Moustakas, Cain, & Soria on the roster. Those guys have been there done that before).
  14. I still like the potential of Ryan Braun vs LHP in big games and in the postseason. He still has value.
  15. I can pretty confidently say that I am the biggest Villar fan who regularly posts on Brewerfan, and even I love this trade. Huge depth now, multiple lineup options... Bigtime power potential from Schoop & Moose... I like it! Having Schoop in 2019 will help plenty too, gives Hiura more time to develop in AAA. Re: Jean Carmona. I like Brice Turang a lot more.
  16. Agree with others that it may be difficult to get a pitcher through waivers to the Brewers. Thinking there is a slim chance we get Matt Harvey though....
  17. Trout currently has a 7.9 WAR, 30 HR's, a .461 OBP. Lord knows how many HR's he'd hit in Miller Park. Suffice it to say "a lot". He'd be under contract in 2019 & 2020 too, before becoming a free agent after the 2020 season. I'd think the Angels would insist on Yelich as part of the package, and Hader. If I could get Trout without trading any of our current MLB players I wouldn't care which prospects we give up. Burnes, Hiura, Ray, even Peralta.... Bye bye I would also trade Yelich, Hader, Hiura & Burnes for Trout. He is that good.
  18. Schoop hit .360 in July with a .700 SLG percentage. Very slow start to the season when he was trying to play hurt.
  19. Interesting.... Very interesting.... Ortiz plus Villar Happy we have Schoop in 2019 too.... Schoop at shortstop????
  20. Hiura plus Ortiz to the Blue Jays for Marcus Stroman
  21. Chase for 3 innings, Knebel for 1 inning in the 4th, Soria in the 5th Hader for 2, Jeffress for 2
  22. Knebel has to be, what? Our 4th best relief pitcher? 5th best? Counsell needs to figure that out before the "Knebel is our 9th inning guy" backfires in a big way in big games....
  23. Pitching is a glaring need if they are really going to make a run....
