  1. Burnes looked awesome. Granted, it was against mostly AAAA Cubs players, but it was impressive.
  2. I wouldn't bet my house on it not happening, but with injuries and how quickly the games changing it would not shock me if one of those teams goes down.
  3. Thanks Benji for that post....fingers crossed. Jimmy is an easy player to root for
  4. There are a ton of analytics in place projecting Burnes' production, for instance, over the next 6-7 years within the Brewers front office I'm sure. And they are cross referencing that with cost analysis of free agent pitchers. There also might be preliminary deals in place for Stroman and or Archer for the trade deadline...
  5. Back to Baseball: it has been a fascinating offseason. Maybe it'll turn out that acquiring Yelich & Cain were just a continuing part of the longterm rebuild. It sure makes sense, to me, to spend $$$ on Cobb + and go for it, and I certainly don't see how spending $$$ on pitching would jeopardize our future. I do trust in Stearns, and it is likely he really values our MiLB Pitching.
  6. I just know that if I was David Stearns and someone was leaking inside info out that was getting put on the Internet, I'd be looking to fire that person ASAP. If the leaks/inside info is real, while it is interesting it hurts the Brewers having it out there. Having said that,I hope the Brewers sign Cobb. He is still a very very good pitcher
  7. I really wonder if Arrieta will hold off on signing until well into the season, as has been hinted at in the media. I am struggling to think of another Baseball player of Arrieta's caliber who has done that in recent memory. The reality is, there will be a pitcher on a top team that will get injured in April or May. It happens every year. Being able to sign Arrieta when your TOR goes down is quite the luxury, quite the insurance. The Brewers would be foolish to think that eventually Boras/Arrieta will cave because the Brewers are "the only team left standing".
  8. I agree on one but not two depending on what they think about Nelson. Say Arreita or Cobb sign or they trade for Archer Arrieta/Cobb/Archer Anderson Davies Chacin Woodruff then Nelson That is good enough. They dont need to replace Chacin. He is a solid pitcher. Very good for a number 5. Woodruff and then Suter and Gallardo can fill in case of minor injuries. Major injury then maybe you make a trade They might have some insight on Nelson, but zero guarantees. He might be the 4 something ERA guy he was previous to last season. Shoulders are tricky
  9. My opinion: if they don't add a starter this team will be mediocre at best, fighting to be a .500 team They really need two more starters.
  10. Wasn't our payroll $60 million or so last year, while ranking in the Top Ten in attendance? Just pay Arrieta!
  11. Expect strikeouts. Lots of strikeouts.
  12. I want Ryan Braun in 95% of the games in August & September ... If you can rest him a lot in the months prior to that, in order to have a good chance at a healthy Braun in the stretch run, I think that'd be wise.
  13. I'm looking forward to seeing how the young players look, in particular Hiura, Burnes, Hader, Phillips & Dubon
  14. That doesn't mean the Twins won't sign Cobb or Arrieta though
  15. Cubs with 110 wins, they do play the Reds & Pirates, what? 17 games each? Plus playing the Padres, Marlins, Braves, Phillies 6 games each? The NL is pretty mediocre this year. The Crew could win 90 games and not make the playoffs! Speaking of the playoffs: anybody here comfortable with Anderson starting a playoff game vs Scherzer or Kershaw? We need to sign Arrieta or Cobb.
  16. Lucroy was really good in the WBC last year, and while granted it was just one game he was awesome in the playoffs in 2017. He is still much much better than Vogt. He'd improve the Brewers. From the outside looking in, he seems like he has attitude issues. If that is just my biased perception, and there is nothing about him that would disrupt team chemistry, there is (to me) zero reasons why we shouldn't sign him
  17. Welcome back! And: I strongly agree. This team has plenty of firepower on offense. Arguably as good of an offense top to bottom as any team in the NL. No reason not to completely go for it this year.
  18. Once again I agree with you. I'd like to see them sign one pitcher and trade for another. The likelihood that Nelson returns to his 2015-2016 level of production is pretty strong, and the same can be said of Chase Anderson. There were a lot of pleasant surprises with our pitching last year but essentially our pitching staff is the same one that comprised our "rebuilding team" staff in April of 2017. I've watched enough Baseball to not be shocked if Knebel turns out to be a one year wonder (lots of closers are) and the starters we have are all 4 something guys in 2018 The roster as currently comprised really reminds me of the 2012 Brewers, although with much better defense. But still we look on paper like a team that will need to win a bunch of 9-8 games (scoring a lot of runs and giving up a lot of runs)
  19. My teenage Brewers fanatic son practically broke his bedroom door slamming it in anger when I told him that the Brewers signed Wade Miley and Nick Franklin.... "Why???!!!", he yelled.... After I got done laughing I explained that they are likely just MiLB filler, to which he said "Nate Orf is way better than Franklin". Smart kid...
  20. Agree on prefering Arrieta. In fact I prefer Arrieta over Darvish. But as a fan (fanatic?) I've pretty much resigned myself that we aren't getting Jake. So of the remaining options: I like Cobb a lot more than Lynn. And I like Cobb more than having to give up Burnes to get Archer. And, finally I like Cobb a heckuva lot more than "we'll start the season with who we have and if we're in it in July will trade for a TOR then...."
  21. Doesn’t matter. Let’s just stay on Cobb and not have this thread turn into that. OK... Although we often comment on Haudricourt or Buster Olney or any other number of inside info correspondents.... I think the Brewers absolutely need to sign or trade for a very good to great pitcher or the wheels could easily fall off early in the season. Cobb seems like a good compromise between potential & cost
  22. So either the Brewers sign Cobb or High Heat folds up shop? Is that the story?
  23. 1.729 WHIP last year ....
  24. Any chance, as a lefty, he can be converted to a relief pitcher? As a depth move this isn't terrible....
  25. I'd be thrilled with the Brewers signing Cobb. Definitely a step in the right direction.
