  1. If only it was two weeks. The Brewers have displayed several consecutive years of ineptitude. The 2nd Half of 2017 featured some of most mind numbingly stupid approaches at the plate as I have ever seen in my 46 years of watching Baseball, throw in the mental mistakes on the bases, windmill Eddie running us into outs at the plate a few times a week, and questionable lineups and the season was a disaster....
  2. You don't DFA Braun, you platoon him. Eventually he'll only play vs LHP.
  3. I'm good with perpetually angry players. I'd be thrilled with Contreras on the Brewers. The Brewers sure seem like they are having a great time, but they play fundamentally horrid Baseball. I miss Rickie Weeks.
  4. So if we replace Santana, Villar, Aguillar, Thames and hope Arcia grows up we'll be OK? Meanwhile Braun is throwing to the wrong base, and twice Cain hasn't charged a ball hard enough, allowing a run to score once and an extra base the other time. I get that Counsell's job is safe for the foreseeable future, but at some point the sloppy play will come back to his job security, I think I'm sure of that. I'm relatively certain that owning the Brewers is more than just a "fun hobby" for Mark A, that he actually wants to win. Maybe Miller Park is just a rich man's playground. Sure, winning the World Series would be awesome, but as long as the team is turning a profit and there are lots of fun times and fun seasons, well perhaps ultimately Mark A is good with that? I honestly can't tell for certain. In that scenario, Counsell is manager for life. What I do know is that the Brewers play an embarrassing brand of sloppy Baseball. This is a franchise that is clearly not ready for prime time.
  5. We signed a 32 year old center fielder to a $80 million, 5 year contract because we are in year 3 of a 5 year rebuild?
  6. I think that is why it'll be later rather than sooner... Eventually though, patience for this pathetic brand of Baseball will run out, no matter how well liked Counsell is or how well he & Stearns work together.
  7. Asking sincerely. I'm not calling for Counsell to be fired anytime soon. I don't even think the lack of hustle and poor fundamental Baseball is Counsell's fault, but at some point he'll get the blame. So, seriously, how long does this last before Steans cleans house? All of 2018? Two more seasons of idiotic mistakes and poor defense and less than ideal at-bats?
  8. This Brewers team looks far from being a contender. No way would I start Burnes' clock early
  9. Thames has been much better than Braun so far this season. It is a small sample of course and hopefully he can turn it around, but Braun has shown no reason for sitting Thames, especially vs RHP.
  10. At some point all the mental mistakes are going to doom Counsell and the rest of the coaching staff. Whether that is "fair" or not, I don't know. But if the franchise turns a corner and seems ready to truly make a run in 2019-2021, Stearns might clean house prior to that. As it is, right now this team just isn't all that good. It was a weird, perplexing offseason and the decision to not bring in free agent pitching might prove smart in the long run, but in the short run the Brewers are not ready for prime time.
  11. I think Hiura is the Brewers DH of the future. I'm betting the NL has a DH by the year 2020 or 2021
  12. The fact that Hiura is starting the season in A+ ball and not AA makes me think the Brewers are not fast tracking him for 2019. The arm thing is scary. Maybe he ends up being a Khris Davis type in LF? Maybe by the time he's ready for MLB there'll be the DH in the NL?
  13. I love the Brewers bias on this board, but in my opinion Braun has about a 1% chance at the HOF. To overcome the PED thing and the relatively pedestrian (by HOF standards) last few years, he'd need something like 5 straight years of 2011 numbers to pull it off. And if he finished his career with 5 straight seasons of 2011 numbers, there'd be tons of suspicion by voters that he was on PED's. So, yeah, pretty close to a zero percent chance for Braun.
  14. Honestly the very best shot right now is Craig Counsell, if he wins 3 World Series as a manager
  15. It's not that big of a deal having Braun start instead of Santana. I think Domingo will significantly outhit Braun over the course of the season and will force his way into the lineup more...
  16. Looking forward to watching this game... Hoping Domingo is starting in RF
  17. Brewers are starting him out in A+ ball this spring, right?
  18. Is that in reference to pinch hitters? The Orioles under Weaver used a lot of Lefty/Righty platoons
  19. Brewers are undefeated when Domingo Santana is in the starting lineup. Small sample size
  20. Darvish, Quintana, Gray.... Somehow I think Stearns is smarter than us impatient armchair GM's
