  1. 2018 Brewers Season Predictions Win-Loss Record: 83-79 Playoffs (Yes, No): No Highest Playoff Level Achieved: All Star Game Representative(s): Yelich, Knebel Offensive Player of the Year: Yelich Pitcher of the Year: Anderson Most Surprising Player: Burnes Most Disappointing Player: Thames Arcia prediction: .274 BA, 12 HR's, Top 3 in Gold Glove voting
  2. Melvin gets the honor, in my opinion, only because we've been a horrendously unsuccessful franchise. I thought he was a very mediocre GM who managed to screw up a great foundation given to him by his scouting director.
  3. If Thames continues to hit like he did in spring training, I think he will lose his starting role vs righties very quickly to Braun. I wouldn't pencil him for 110 starts just yet. First it is spring training and secondary I don’t think we see Braun that much out there at 1B with how bad they still think he is. Only reason he will face LHP there is because he crushes it. I’m not so sure they think his bat is worth it against anything else quite yet. Thames will have a really long leash of time before Braun really starts stealing his entire role. This really more about a 3 way battle between Santana, Braun & Thames vs RHP. One would certainly hope and assume that Yelich & Cain will start 150 games. Santana in RF and Braun at 1B vs LHP. I'm not convinced that either Thames or Braun can outproduce Santana vs RHP. We'll see. History show us that both Cain & Braun will miss 30+ games, more than likely, due to injuries, which will provide opportunities to everyone.
  4. I'll take Burnes over any of those FA pitchers besides of course Kershaw. It is always a roll of the dice with pitcher's health, but if Burnes stays healthy I think he'll be a TOR pitcher. In terms of the FA list, Matt Harvey as a low cost bounce back candidate could be interesting....
  5. Traded Braun for Puig plus pitching a few years back As far as this offseason: I would have outbid the Phillies for Arrieta
  6. I don't think it is going to. Stearns' plan is to "stick with the plan", and the plan just might be that this is another rebuilding year as we wait another season for Burnes & Hiura to be ready. I think a lot of Brewers fans will be very disappointed in the 2018 season, but I trust that 2019-2021 will make the growing pains seem worth it. I just want one World Championship. I don't care about contending for the wild card year in and year out, just want to win it all one time!
  7. A few thoughts: There must be serious concerns about Lucroy's personality/attitude/lack of fit in the clubhouse to not sign him for a 1-2 year contract considering everything The Brewers must have insight into the probability of Neil Walker's imminent decline to not sign him Stearns has repeatedly spoke the mantra of "stick to the plan" in interviews this offseason...
  8. Cain's value is higher because he is plus defense up the middle and as said, a top of the order bat.
  9. It is entirely possible that Stearns still looks at this year as part of the rebuild that Yelich/Cain were brought in on long term 5 year contracts as part of the 2019-2022 window...
  10. Are we underrating Woodruff? I hope so. I see him as a good solid #4 or #5 Starter, career 3.85-4.35 ERA 1.223 WHIP type of guy. The type of pitcher who can definitely help a team, but not a star, not a stopper, not an ace. I'd be thrilled if I'm underrating him. Gun pointed at my head and having to guess? I might be overrating him....
  11. Fast forward to the trade deadline, we will not be in contention with this current pitching staff
  12. I think Nottingham will be able to eventually hit MLB pitching. Jury is still way out on whether he'll be enough if a catcher defensively.
  13. If we aren't going to bring a TOR guy or two we might as well trade Knebel. This halfway stuff is what leads to zero World Series Championships in franchise history.
  14. Even if there is zero regression from Anderson & Davies, who picks up Nelson's production until after the All Star Break? Woodruff and Chacin? That seems far fetched. And then Jimmy just picks up right where he left off? Without signing or trading for a TOR then we should sadly look at 2018 as a rebuilding year and hope Burnes & Peralta step it up to be stars in 2019
  15. Yelich in particular has looked like the elite talent he is. Awesome swing, great ability to make contact, Gold Glove level defense in LF. He is a potential superstar.
  16. We are a Manny Piña injury away from the catching position being a disaster. I suppose that is true of most team's starting catchers. If Jett Bandy was younger I'd suggest he convert to being a Pitcher.
  17. 3 pitchers for Aguillar? I'm not familiar with those guys, are they low level prospects?
  18. And then you put a well below average Ryan Braun in LF, decreasing the defensive potential in two positions? This ain't Doug Melvin's Brewers
  19. Braun is almost as bad defensively as Santana. Especially when he's not 100% , which is most of the time. Playing Yelich anywhere other than LF decreases his value and puts him out of position.
  20. Why are the Brewers coddling Braun? He is a declining talent who gets hurt every year. It wouldn't shock me to see Santana out produce Braun every year over the next 5 years. Brian Anderson actually opened today's telecast saying that "the biggest news of the offseason" is Braun moving to first base. Seriously? Not trading for Yelich or signing Cain. Braun playing 1B is the biggest news? Yes if the return on Santana helps the franchise, sure, trade him. I get that Braun won the 2011 MVP, but that was 7 very long seasons ago.
  21. When he hit that HR, I said "thanks a lot, Lucroy!"
  22. Oliver Drake no bueno
  23. I personally think you can do a heckuva lot worse than Villar batting 8th. I'd go out on a limb and say if given the opportunity he'll be the best 8 hole hitter in MLB in 2018
  24. Villar is just way too talented, young & controllable, athletic and versatile to not give him another chance.
  25. Arrieta can be the difference maker for the Brewers to get to the World Series. The Brewers should just get over their fears amd sign him! It is only money. The legacy of a World Championship lasts forever.
