  1. No one knows if Arrieta is better or not. I would argue that the Cubs clearly think that Darvish is more desirable than Arrieta at this point in time, and that they ought to be in the best position to know... We're talking about a franchise that *thinks* Kyle Schwarber is a left fielder and paid Jason Heyward a gazillion dollars.
  2. Re: the Brewers "matching" the Cubs offer.... Wouldn't the Brewers need to exceed the Cubs offer? Playing for the Cubs allows for much more potential in endorsement deals....
  3. I don't get why Darvish is rated as more desirable than Arrieta. Arrieta is just one year older, has been much better in the last 3 seasons, and has been vastly better in the postseason. I'd be thrilled to get either, but I think Arrieta is much much better
  4. So,what are the chances that the Brewers sign a free agent pitcher in the next week?
  5. Yes I would fully expect Gallardo and Guerra to have ERA's over 4.80, and the jury is still out on Woodruff. Meanwhile there are pretty big question marks about Barnes, Jeffress, and to a lesser degree Albers. Would I be shocked if Knebel turned out to be a "one year wonder"? Not entirely shocked, no...
  6. It really comes down to pitching. 77 wins is a low estimate especially with the improved offense and defense with the additions of Cain & Yelich. But we are beginning the season without Jimmy Nelson, and our starting rotation as it stands today might include Gallardo. We really need to add a TOR pitcher. Otherwise we look a lot like the 2012 Brewers: lots of hitting, not much pitching, and 83 wins
  7. This move doesn't at all "complete" our bullpen if we are truly contending for a title, unless you believe 1) Albers can repeat a 1.65 ERA 0.85 WHIP season 2) You can depend on Barnes/Jeffress in high leverage situations 3) Knebel won't regress To me, the bullpen remains our biggest question mark and biggest weakness. If everything goes well, this bullpen could maybe get us through to the Trade Deadline, but we're gonna need a lot more help to shine in the playoffs. Don't get me wrong, I like the signing, but we are far from done.... Maybe in August/Sept someone like Burnes comes up from MiLB to help in the bullpen? I guess I could see that....maybe?
  8. Albers is a great signing, especially at that price. While he is entering his age 35 year old season, and has been inconsistent year to year, he was fantastic last season (1.62 ERA, 0.852 WHIP)

  10. Funny to click on a Hader thread and read an Outfield/1B discussion With Hader, it depends on how many pitches in an outing before he stops being elite. Anecdotal, but I remember his velocity going down and his fastball straightening out as he got into pitch #40 or so... I think he's a relief ace, not a starter....
  11. Asking sincerely, but why do people think Cleveland wants to trade Mejia? Is Domingo Santana going to be the difference maker that wins them a World Series? I'm just not seeing it....
  12. That was Doug Melvin. Stearns brought in a whole new paradigm.
  13. It always comes down to pitching. Just 3 years left of Anderson & Nelson. Zero pitchers on staff who look like they are legit TOR pitchers on a World Series team I wouldn't say we've opened a window, yet, but we're getting closer. If Hader or Burnes can become superstar aces, then, yes the window is open....
  14. Cain in 2020-2022 will probably be similar to Mike Cameron. A great veteran leader, a solid defender, takes good at bats, gives you a chance to win... I think it was an absolutely brilliant move bringing in Cain. The guy is everything you could possibly want in a competitor and a leader. The swing & miss Brewers of Sept 2017 were an embarrassment. A not yet ready for Prime Time crew... Cain & Yelich are huge steps in the right direction
  15. Braun has always been a little awkward in interviews. He tries to be polished but it comes across as the opposite of genuine. This could merely be his way of saying he's a team player.
  16. Albert Pujols played 2B for about 2 innings in his career, it was at Miller Park (random factoid, I know).... Braun at 2B would likely be even worse than Yuni B at SS Meanwhile: has the team completely given up on Villar? They have Sogard under contract too... Under what context is the Braun to 2B thing even part of the conversation? Is this merely in regards to the Santana trade negotiations?
  17. Braun would be good at 2B until he has to throw a ball....
  18. We are not going to be able to low ball our way into pitching. It is gonna take Santana + a pitching prospect (hopefully not Burnes) to get an Archer or Stroman or Salazar.... Plus maybe one more lottery pick type prospect.
  19. If they keep Santana the TOR acquisition will be from signing Darvish, Arrieta, or Cobb
  20. They need another starter or two.... And they'll continue to negotiate on trades and free agents to improve the pitching. I remain concerned about the bullpen too
  21. There is a better chance of Craig Counsell coming back and playing 2B than Yelich playing first. I mean come on! Have you seen Yelich play LF? He is a Gold Glove LF.
  22. Braun at 1B and keeping Santana makes this offense very very dangerous. Then it'd be time to sign Darvish or Arrieta
  23. We could start Phillips and Broxton in MiLB, right? And every MLB GM knows that Braun is as fragile as an eggshell, so the excuse that we need OF depth is valid. More than likely the Santana trade options are already in place and have been for a week, it is just a matter of fine tuning the final details. MLB Network, Bill James and host of other "experts" all rated Santana as the 8th best RF in all of Baseball last week... He is a young controllable player with a lot of value. RH hitting power hitters aren't easy to come by...
