  1. He might've been tempted to answer "ask David. I can only coach the roster I'm given"
  2. I'd even "settle" for him being our Hoffman (!) Maybe he's a Kimbrel. Or maybe he's an Axford. So hard to know... Most humans who throw 98+ can not do that year after year...
  3. All the more reason to trade him, but only if you can get the type of return they got from Houston in the Gomez/Fiers trade or from Texas in the Lucroy trade.... considering what Stearns received in trade for Thornburg, that actually isn't beyond the realm of possibilities.
  4. When was the last time a Cardinals free agent starter succeeded elsewhere? Is that the "Molina Factor"? Possibly. Otherwise, it is such a small sample of players that it is hard to wrap my mind around that being a strong reason to stay away from Cardinals players. Having said that, I'd be certainly happy with the production that Kyle Lohse provided the Brewers in 2013/2014 from somebody in 2018/2019
  5. They simply have to acquire more pitching this offseason, both starters and especially in the bullpen, otherwise there is a chance there is a regression in 2018.
  6. Part of the reason for wanting to upgrade 1B is because it frees up a roster spot. Thames cannot hit lefties. So not only do you get more production out of 1B, but you free up a roster spot by not needing an Aguillar to platoon.
  7. Correct. You want to improve at your weakest spots. The Brewers' goal is to win the World Series. They won 86 games. They have lots of weak spots. Yes they are ahead of schedule in the rebuild but they could use upgrades all over the roster. Knebel was the only legit All-Star out of the whole bunch. They have a nice core of 3-4 win players. Time to upgrade significantly and go for it....
  8. It's a bit weird that you don't include Brinson. While Brinson isn't a surefire bet to hit 300, he can be productive with the bat while providing excellent defense. Hiura might end up at 1b or LF where the bat won't play. I know I hear all the time how his bat will play anywhere, but unless you are hitting 30+ bombs...your bat doesn't belong in LF or 1b. Hiura doesn't profile to do that. I'd love to see Brinson be a superstar. It is hard for me to envision that. His ceiling looks more like a Lorenzo Cain/Mike Cameron type player, which obviously has value but isn't a guy you see in the All-Star game 7-10 years in a row. Honestly it astounds me when I read people saying there isn't really anywhere besides 2B that they see a need for an upgrade on the Brewers. Say what? You wouldn't rather have Correa instead of Arcia? Sanchez instead of Pina? Arenado instead of Shaw? Say what?!
  9. The only potential superstar position player we have in the whole system is, to me, Hiura... I suppose Arcia is a possibility but that is a reach The Royal won it all without a true superstar player so it can be done....
  10. So are you saying 2017 was a fluke? The team finished one game out of the playoffs but we should make zero moves to improve the lineup? The lineup is just fine as it is? Asking sincerely as I want to understand you.
  11. Yes, a trade. I've thought of that. Based on the past that may be more likely. i.e. the trade that brought in Chase Anderson. Was Stearns overly lucky in valuing Shaw and Anderson more than, it seems, the rest of the industry? Or, brilliant. Can he do it again?
  12. I do like Lance Lynn more than Cobb. I'd like both to be Brewers honestly but realize that isn't likely. I just don't see how Anderson Lynn Davies Woodruff Suter (with Nelson coming back) Is somehow worse than a rotation featuring everyone we had in house in 2017? The goal is to actually win it all.
  13. So, Keith, to answer you directly: yes I want 1-2 years of a mid-rotation starter who upgrades the pitching in those years. And then in the 2-3 years of them being a #5 starter? I don't give a flip if Mark's money is wasted. Let them be a long reliever then, or depth in case of injury etc
  14. I have very little regard for whether Mark A makes money or loses money in a particular season. I want to see a World Series Championship for the Brewers in my lifetime. The value of the Brewers has at least doubled since Mark bought the team. He has plenty of money...bring us a Championship, or please sell the team to someone willing to invest more money into payroll!
  15. Correct. Example A is Carl Crawford.
  16. I think now that the farm system depth is ready for MLB, you can. Afford to play Braun less when he's struggling with injuries
  17. Meant to add, besides Hosmer, there are zero other free agent hitters still in their 20's with an .850+ OPS ... The Brewers have a ton of cap room. I think if there was ever a time for an impact bat in free agency it'd be now. I like Cozart too, but he's 32..,
  18. Hosmer vs RHP in 2017 .335/.410/.528 Thames vs RHP in 2017 .265/.382/.551 Thames is 3 years older and had a 1.4 WAR in 2017 Hosmer is 27 and had a 4 WAR IN 2017 Thames vs LHP in 2017 .182/.270/.384 Hosmer vs LHP in 2017 .284/.327/.433 Looking for an upgrade offensively. I would suspect Hosmer's power numbers to go up in Miller Park as well....
  19. Stanton worth 7.5 wins in 2017 Santana worth 3 Jimmy Nelson (the hopeful comp for Burnes?) was worth 3 On paper Stanton is worth more. But will he stay healthy?
  20. Probably had a lot to do with why he was on Roids in the 1st Place. Incredible genetics for playing Baseball. Not so great genetics for durability. Very ironic but after all those discussions as to who to sign long term, Fielder or Braun, the correct answer was "neither".
  21. I guess it'd come down to who you think will produce more in 2018-2020: Burnes/Santana/Diplan or Stanton. And what do you do with Braun if you bring in Stanton? And where do you find the pitchers to replace Burnes/Diplan?
  22. Fun idea....that is actually a possible trade scenario I'm a huge Stanton fan. He's only had, what? One full healthy season? Two? I'd be very hesitant to trade pitching though.
  23. I would absolutely break the bank for Eric Hosmer. Then trade Thames
  24. We have a ton of cap room. I'd go after Lance Lynn and Alex Cobb. I know that neither are guaranteed to be great, but you can never have too much pitching...and I think both could be strong effective pitchers. Relief Pitchers: Matt Albers, Swarzak, Mike Minor, Cishek, Yusmeiro Petit... I would try to sign at least two of those five
  25. I'd like to see Burnes in the bullpen in 2018, similar to how Hader was used.
