  1. I think Quintana would require Hader plus either Arcia or Dubon plus Brinson Maybe you could pull off Hader + Arcia + Phillips or Cordell plus another top pitching prospect and keep Brinson
  2. Brandon Phillips at 25 playing LF! The worst case scenario for Hader is much worse than Andrew Miller-lite. Thames at 34 is somewhat unlikely to be a top flight 1B. I mean maybe but I just don't see it In general I think the window of opportunity opens sooner, as soon as this year or next, which makes decisions even tougher
  3. I like Brian Anderson and think he is a very good announcer but I actually think Matt Lepay is better
  4. He has been somewhat streaky at times in his career, but this is something else! Eric Sogard Batting Gamelogs for Career Games 145 to 152 Date Tm ..............................G GS Rslt PA AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB IBB SO HBP SH SF ROE GDP SB CS BA OBP SLG OPS BAbip aLI WPA RE24 DFS(DK) DFS(FD) Jul 19 to Jul 28, 2013 OAK 8 7 6-2 27 27 6 11 4 0 1 6 0 0 5 0 0 0 0 0 0 0 .407 .407 .667 1.074 .476 .77 0.547 3.84 per 162 games 162 142 122 547 547 122 223 82 0 21 122 0 0 102 0 0 0 0 0 0 0
  5. Seriously!!! What is going on with Sogard?!!! We're gonna need to start calling Villar "Wally Pipp"
  6. too lazy (at least for now) to go and look but has Sogard been a streaky hitter in his career? This is just crazy
  7. The guy has really put in his time! Portions of 6 seasons in AA, and 7 seasons in AAA! Pitched great in the Dominican Winter League this past winter, pitching great this year in AAA. It'll be easy rooting for him to succeed
  8. Agreed. Or at least show the Padres broadcast of the game.
  9. Trea Turner instead of Medeiros would have been nice
  10. Quintana hasn't been Quintana so far this year. He was amazing in the WBC but (small sample alert) has a 4.38 ERA, 91 ERA+ (100 is league average) and a 1.4 something WHIP in 49 IP's so far this season Just goes to show the volatile nature of pitching. Perhaps the poor start will lessen the asking price (doubt it) but no I would not give up the farm for him. On the plus side, the team that trades for him could have him for 3 additional seasons, so he isn't a rental. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/q/quintjo01.shtml
  11. I'm gonna drink a strong cup of coffee in a bit. I'm having fun staying up watching the West Coast Brewers Here's hoping Garza can continue pitching well
  12. Mr & Mrs Sogard AAA call up. Spring Training invite. Villar I think is improving. Defense, hitting, everything seems to be coming together a little. Diaz/Dubon are a year plus away. Hernan could force the Brewers' hand at 2B if Brinson comes up and starts raking. I think Perez is a better overall player than Villar anyways Sogard should remain on the MLB team when Braun comes back
  13. I think Wily Peralta could be a fantastic closer or at least late inning relieft pitcher and I have said so for years. He has better stuff than Knebel/Thornburg as just an example and if he knows he only has to go one inning I could see him being very effective throwing 98/99 mph coming out of the pen. To a lesser degree the same is true of Nelson. Those guys just need to be used correctly.
  14. All I know that with a name like Seth Beer this guy has gotta get drafted by the Brewers in 2018! http://www.clemsontigers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?ATCLID=210620206
  15. I watch pretty much every game, but only on occasion watch it live. I DVR the games and watch later that night or early the next day. Not always easy to avoid knowing the score! When I do accidentally find out the score I will fast forward through various sections of games
  16. Santana seems to be hardly blocking anyone. He shows just enough flash to be given more chances but he is playing like a 1 WAR player with negative defensive WAR in RF As soon as Brinson is deemed ready and/or it is OK for the Brewers to start his clock he'll be up.
  17. Personally, I'm thrilled for Sogard. Hasn't been in MLB since 2015, and has worked incredibly hard to get back. He's hitting .330/.421/.516 in AAA this year Way to go Eric!!!!! Welcome back to the show!
  18. I realize the title includes "Hypothetical" but in short: we don't Braun is good but injuries are adding up Broxton might be good. Time will tell Brinson might be good. Time will tell The rest? Mega-huge question marks.
  19. Took the kid to Miller Park tonight. It was a fun night. Interesting hearing his perspective on the game And man oh man, if I didn't believe the hype about Mookie Betts before, I sure do now. The ball just jumps off his bat in ways I have rarely seen in my 40+ years of attending MLB games, and he can flat out fly. Very impressive
  20. I just don't see a longterm future as an MLB starter for Domingo Santana. Too much swing & miss in his game.
  21. That is one seriously mediocre defensive outfield the Brewers are running out there tonight. Wow. Hopefully Wily keeps his pitches low. And no fastballs to Gyorko!
  22. That plan would fool the casual fan, fool the hardcore fan who is just being lazy, fool the pundits on talk radio & newspapers, but would never fool an MLB front office. They have more computer analysis than we can even begin to imagine Of course, if Dave Stewart was still the GM of the Diamondbacks? Maybe!
  23. In a rebuilding year when you see a team take on a player with some name recognition like Tommy Milone or Neftali Feliz, a lot of it is about trying to revive their career and status as "reliable veterans" so they can be flipped at the deadline. When you look at the haul we got back for Thornburg, this seems like a reasonable approach. We aren't at every practice or workout, and I'm certain the Brewers saw something in Milone that gave them some optimism that he could turn it around. Yes Milone was more of a roll of the dice than Feliz, whose signing was a roll of the dice in itself, but it was worth the gamble. Not every lottery ticket is gonna work out. There are plenty of teams like the Nationals who are legit contenders with less than stellar bullpens who will overpay for pitching at the deadline.
