Andrews is a good call. Hard to ignore a guy who's in AA barely a year after being drafted, and I'm sure the Brewers will want to see how his short frame plays against more elite hitters. I wonder if they'd ever send him trying to get him some more reps hitting and in the field. Only getting 3-4 PAs per week and has only gotten in the outfield a couple times in AA, but he's done well.
Heaiest workload yet 8/15: 2.2 IP, 0 R, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K. 50 pitches, 32 strikes. Gave up his first hit, but he did complete his rehab assignment no-hitter: No hits in his first 9 IP through six appearances between Rookie, AA, and AAA.
Seems they're still doing the Team 1-Home, Team 2, Team 1-Away thing, though not as much as this year. It was really boring in April/May when it felt like we were playing the same three teams the entire time and then the season series were over (or with the Cardinals, wouldn't resume for three months).
COME ON BIG SASSY! If they option Gamel they wouldn't actually use an option since he would likely be called up September 1 and be down less than 20 days. It would actually be decent roster management. Ah nice, thanks. Intriguing option in that case.
Having him and Grisham is a little redundant to boot. I didn't think it would be possible a month ago, but he's working his way toward an option to AAA. Agreed. Be an easy way to get you know who up to be another right handed bat off the bench. [sarcasm]The Salad Man![/sarcasm] On a serious note, I'd try to preserve his last option year. Either stay the course for a couple weeks and wait for reinforcements in September or go the phantom IL route.
Mentioned in the IGT last night, but it's really troubling that Faria and Black are out of options next year. Black will now get some time to prove otherwise, but as of now the 2020 pen is showing two pieces that you'd not expect to be at the top of the depth chart and also can't be sent down. That could impact other tenders, options, and signings.
If each is done in a silo, both re-signing Moustakas (no better 3B option internally) and retaining Shaw (expect bounce back, won't be enormous cost) both make sense. However, I think we saw recently how it wasn't working to get both into the lineup. Further complicated by not being able to platoon Shaw at first given picking up Thames' option really is a no-brainer. I do like Moustakas over Grandal if it's one or the other, IF we can upgrade shortstop there's some leeway to sacrifice offense at catcher.
But was Freitas catching? Yep - [sarcasm]there goes his September call-up.[/sarcasm] Supak's following in Zack Brown's steps in his move to AAA. Not good.
I was for shutting him down completely, but this has some merit. Get him a non-juiced ball to throw, a pitcher's league, Bob Milacki is either doing something right down there or just about every pitcher coincidentally has had a lot of success, either of which might be good for him.
