  1. I had to look up who that was. Then double check in case I got the number wrong. I'd ask why Oliver Drake couldn't do that for us, though I'm sure all 47 teams he played for last year would also like to ask.
  2. 3-1 with nine more to play since Stearns essentially said the team needed to earn the right to make additions over the two weeks leading up to the deadline. [sarcasm]Wily Peralta DFA'd. There's one.[/sarcasm]
  3. Oh, how I wish we still had Will Smith right now. Trading him for Phil Bickford (he of the 7.59 ERA at high A ball, right now) and Andrew Susac (who's in AAA....for the Royals) was a real head scratcher. I remembered it seeming like a great deal at the time. We traded a relief pitcher, the least long-term type of player, from a team that was playing for a few years down the road. Susac was a guy thought to be a major-league ready potential catcher for the future, blocked in SF by Posey. Bickford was pre-suspension, pre-injuries, a recent first round pick with a good start to his professional career. Hard to believe at the time that Susac had already peaked and Bickford would actually regress over three years. Here's the initial reaction thread. Near euphoric on the return: viewtopic.php?f=63&t=34398
  4. Not balance by Thames. Hiura's glove isn't half bad, but the arm's weak. Definitely not going to be pitching the blowout inning anytime soon.
  5. Smith watching the bases get juiced: Sweet, I might not get sent down tomorrow after all! Smith, being told to warm up and most likely enter: Damn, Counsell noticed me!
  6. "Would be kind of interesting to see [the Brewers/Dodgers] race develop down the stretch" Someone want to let Rock know we're in third place in our division, and 12.5 games worse than the Dodgers?
  7. With Gio starting tomorrow, Burch was already buckled in. Now he's anxiously waiting, hoping not to pitch so maybe Jackson takes his place.
  8. Strikeout: Hmm, Jay Jackson's looking good. Next pitch...
  9. Haudricourt said the other day that it wasn't out of the question that Supak could be tried. Noted that the track record of pitchers coming up from San Antonio has been so terrible that they may be willing to try it. Taking a flyer and hoping for some beginner's luck isn't ideal, but could be fun.
  10. Saladino's pitching is probably better than his hitting. Send him to the pen!
  11. A total meltdown where he now can't even throw a strike, just like before his phantom DL stint.
  12. Think Shaw returning would have to mean going with a smaller pen, which makes sense with Houser's more reliable arm going in. Not sure who you can push out besides Jackson (assuming Smith is going down for Gonzalez), and I'd like to see a couple more outings from Jackson before being ok with that. At least seems like (hopefully) CC is giving up on that SS split with Saladino. Ignoring outside moves, that could mean Dubon comes back or even Perez returns, since he's starting to come around. Don't see the bloating 40 man as a hindrance if they really wanted to do it. Awkward move is that Nelson is starting his rehab assignment on Sunday. Unless he gets shut down again or would agree to a single 10-day option at the conclusion of it to hold out until September that could also mean a roster bind.
  13. Think as of now I'd be interested in protecting Grisham, Ray, Jankins, Brown, Erceg, Sanchez, Griep, and Ponce. Obviously can't have them all. Grisham and Ray are easy. Jankins should be in the mix for the last rotation spot in the spring; at worst you have him in the Wilkerson/Burch role with full team control to see what he can do. Brown and Erceg are tough because there's potential but no results this year to warrant it. The last three are just strong bullpen candidates and would fall under the "nice to haves".
  14. McDowell is a fantastic defensive catcher from what I saw of him in A+. He's gotten the bat from non-existent to middling; hopefully he continues to improve.
  15. Please let their pen be the only one to have a total meltdown as soon as the starter is pulled. It would be a welcome change!
  16. 4-5... with 3 doubles. .358 average now. These numbers are insane. Drafted out of high school so despite being in the system for a few years he's still 22, three months younger than Hiura. Now I'm starting to wish the NL had a DH so we could get him up.
  17. Caught the first one on the Jomboy Media YouTube channel. Anyone else watch his highlights? His videos are fantastic, should have his own show. He does recaps of ejections and other crazy plays, and either gets the enhanced audio or uses really good lip-reading to add some color. Dodgers arguing against ejection of Phillies pitcher: Counsell ejection when Estabrook was being terrible and a turd: Counsell ejection on Arcia foul:
  18. 14 ER in 4.2 IP in two starts against the Cubs. That's one way to go from a good season to falling back in line with his career averages.
  19. Such a crazy tear. He's still only 22, three months younger than Hiura. I'm excited.
  20. Not all of us. Pineapple's OPS up to .681 That actually seems pretty acceptable for a backup catcher. More so given the erratic playing time.
