  1. Also agree that having it in Brewers is best. I usually forgot it was global actually. Not sure if there's a process, but I always liked that the game thread was up early, usually mid-morning even for night games. There's always some nice chatter around possible lineups, roster moves, and figuring out whether someone inevitably calling it a "must win game" is serious or serious.
  2. I like getting a little bit of news and insight as soon as I hit the page. A step up from the interview with 20th round draft pick Shea Vucinich story being the lead headline on the main page for over a decade. ?
  3. Those OT games were fun. I actually kind of like that they were finishing at the same time. The quantity of games in these first two days is why it's the most fun for me.
  4. I'm glad they're still thinking about the double hook. I'd rather it be a straight double hook and not this modified stuff. Already dreading the AL-type games this year where entire games see no bench players utilized.
  5. Directionally, it's about time the Reds decided to rebuild. Though it's seemed like every time that appeared to be the direction they pivot and throw a bunch of money at people only to not really be a contender anyway.
  6. That's not how you spell Castellanos. Good news is he can't be worse than JBJ.
  7. I liked Fry. Thought he could be in the catching mix if Feliciano doesn't have a bounce back from the injuries, especially with his versatility.
  8. Bad feeling about this one. We're likely to get outrebounded by 20 against Bacot. Kur has his work cut out for him. Oso doesn't stand a chance.
  9. Death, taxes, and Marquette laying an egg in the conference tournament.
  10. That commissioners have more job security than kings despite being despised by players and fans alike tells us just how well the owners are doing.
  11. In addition to caps, both the NFL and NBA have floors of around 90% of the cap. The floor would probably have the owners in a tizzy even more than a cap would bother the players.
  12. Not long ago, I was sure Howard would have a long, successful at Michigan. Things have unraveled quickly. It's college, not the NBA. He has to be aware that timeouts to teach or put in walk-ons, or any other reason aren't uncommon or meant as disrespect. Strike two to escalate into a confrontation rather than just mention his distaste, then strike three on the contact. Send him home for the season.
  13. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/33145517/mlb-open-pre-arbitration-bonus-pool-eligible-players-labor-talks-continue-sources-say Notes here re: pre-arbitration bonus pool, starting/pre-arbitration salaries. Notes revenue-sharing and competitive balance tax as the biggest hurdles. Tone at least sounds positive to me. At least the items they note don't sound like anything that should cause a major hold-up to getting a deal done.
  14. Not sure, but he gave them a goodbye kiss It could just be college kids finding a player to pick on, but between that and him singing Country Roads on the court against WVU, I wouldn't be surprised if he did something to provoke them. With any luck, the entire conference will grow to hate him for three more years.
  15. Big fan of EVT. Pays ~6.6%, all of it qualified dividends, and has a weak correlation with the market so the price has also appreciated by about the same 6%+ historically.
  16. Seems like a great financial move. Getting near identical production to Avi back in Renfroe, but saving a lot of money since Renfroe will cost less than Avi, while also purging the JBJ contract. Binelas is a tough loss. At least, he looked great in low A.
  17. Nice deal for Manny. Would have loved him back on a one year deal, but not worth matching this. Let's see who they bring in for #2, whether it's bringing Maile back or getting another veteran in. Still bullish that Feliciano or Fry can contribute at some point next year, but still no way you build the roster by counting on that.
  18. Exciting one. Glad for the new life into the program. Shakaball is fun; he can coach and he's charismatic. Wojoball was boring, coaching was suspect, and a nice guy, but not someone you're drawn in by. That said, we're still likely in for a long season.
  19. Rodgers made a lot of good points related to making his own decision and unscientific protocols and such in the interview. Nor do I take issue with reaching out to a friend who had COVID and who recovered to the point of testing negative in like two days. The fault to me is this whole "50 pages of research", "inoculation" method that when McAfee asked him to elaborate on any specifics as to what it involved he refused. Unless he actually wants to elaborate, I can only assume it's a combination of the meditation he said he did in the offseason and something like Wim Hof breathing exercises and cold therapy. While one could easily get 50 pages of research claiming efficacy in fighting infections from that, he would also have to be a hell of a narcissist to consider it the equivalent of a vaccine, make the claim to the NFL, and spend many hours and dollars preparing an appeal insisting on it rather than just owning the decision and consequences he (correctly) stated he was free to make.
  20. Same. It felt like there were as many announcing combinations as lineups taking the field this season. From that perspective, I'm glad Levering will be the primary. Lepay was in an odd place since he was the backup, but he's still contractually committed to UW-Madison if they need him for a canned food drive or to film a commercial. Then Levering already had a job on radio, so they were down to the 4th stringer, Coshun, for a few games. Add in that Schroeder (understandably) likely saw the come and go as you please privileges as BA and opted to take some extra family time, and you never know who was going to be on the call.
  21. Hopefully a re-sign. If not, Maile is serviceable but indeed a downgrade. Will be interesting to see if Feliciano or Fry can contribute next year, but a mistake to count on either.
  22. Someone indoctrinated in The Cardinal Way™ since 2007 and knows nothing else. Already sounds insufferable.
  23. In addition to player-specific disappointments, I questioned the effectiveness of Haines' scouting/approach aspect of the hitting coach role. How many times was the offense completely inept in the first few innings, often not getting a hit until the 5th or later? There were a couple games I recalled Schroeder saying "you need to attack this guy early in the count", and it was clear our hitting approach was to be very patient (or vice versa).
  24. Good. I hope it's provided rather than a stipend as well. Have no idea how some of the players manage, especially if they get sent to two or three affiliates within a short timeframe. Read a couple stories of players spending all their free time searching for housing. Imagine you're Sal Frelick and spent a few weeks in Carolina, then immediately sent to Appleton for a month. What can he do but hope there's a place on AirBnB that happens to be available since he needs furniture, happens to be close enough to the stadium, and can be rented for a month-ish? That's stressful enough. Now imagine the majority of players who aren't a couple months off a first round signing bonus and have to make cost the top consideration. Teams should have options here. Whether they just go to a few local apartment complexes, or put some assets on the balance sheet. The Mudcats had a big advertisement in the outfield this year about a local development going up right down the road. Even with the inflated prices, for the cost of one year of a veteran bullpen arm they could probably buy 5 houses that would have enough space for pretty much everyone and would probably continue to appreciate in value.
  25. Is he working on his sprints? I assume they're not going to try to have him throw that far, so he would have to run every ball back in.
