  1. They tricked me into thinking the draft actually starts at 6 EST again. Every single year I fall for it... Now I have to sit through an hour of "Let me tell you, this pitcher named 'A.J. Puk' is a possible ace!"
  2. I don't want them to pick Ray either, but let's keep things in perspective. I don't want Ray because there are several players I find much more intriguing, not because I think Ray is bad. Just as a *draft prospect* (who knows what he turns into), Corey Ray would almost surely be the best player drafted by the Brewers since Ryan Braun. There's a reason he's a consensus top-5 or top-10 talent in every mock, and it's not because he's boring or because he has a low ceiling. You don't get picks like Eric Arnett at #5 overall.
  3. I'm not defending Ventura. I simply think Machado is an even bigger idiot. The HBP was most likely because after Ventura pitched him inside earlier in the game (totally legitimate to do that), Machado stood to admire what turned out to be a warning track flyout. So it goes back to "you watched a flyball....my feelings were hurt, now I will physically assault you" That's idiocy in its purest form. Yes, and so is "you lost your temper and hit me with a pitch...my feelings were hurt, now I will physically assault you"

  5. That's just it though. Pitchers can hide behind the ole "I was just throwing inside" line or "It got away from me." IMO, there's no reason to ever drill a guy. Work inside, back him off if you want but intentionally nailing a guy is just plain stupid. It's definitely stupid, I just don't think it gives Machado an excuse to be even more stupid. He wasn't defending himself, he was retaliating because he was angry.
  6. I'm not a fan of intentional HBP, especially if you're throwing as hard as you can at the ribs, but at least it is sort of part of the game. Punching a guy in the face is not. The sympathy for Machado is ridiculous and probably has a lot to do with him being a superstar. He is the one who should get a 10+ game suspension. Give Ventura 1 game, if that.
  7. Wow, I'm sure Collins is within the range of reasonableness for our pick, but no way am I taking a guy with those college K numbers at #5 overall.
  8. I've changed my preference and am all in on Blake Rutherford. He seems to me like the most likely guy where a few years from now everyone looks back and wonders how he was not 1-1, not just because of success but also because it was all so obvious at the time.
  9. Maybe I'm a conspiracy theorist, but I wonder how much these very public "makeup" concerns are just a way of coercing a high school kid who is demanding too much money (say, slot value...) into breaking down and accepting a few million less than he ostensibly deserves.
  10. Are those the same guys who said Delvin Perez to Milwaukee was an absolute lock not much more than a week ago? I think the answer is: the Brewers are looking at a lot of players, and nobody knows. (I like everything I've read about Rutherford though, sounds like he would be a great pick if none of the top-3 pitchers are available or if the Brewers think they are too flawed)
  11. They would laugh if you wanted Moncada just for Lucroy. You would need to trade a good haul of talent to get back Moncada. Then hang up the phone, low-minors prospects are not that valuable. Lucroy is a huge trade asset and there are no prospects that are "hands off". Granted, Moncada is a more complicated situation because Boston already has sunk $$ in him.
  12. There's an article on the front page of MLB.com about the difficult question of whether Yadier Molina is the best catcher in the National League. I really can't even be bothered with the All-Star nonsense any more.
  13. It's not as a bad as the whole Lucroy/Braun for Pablo Sandoval nonsense, but yeah it's pretty bad. I suppose if you value Flores as a Brett Phillips-caliber prospect (to use the failed Gomez deal as a comparator) it almost makes sense if we go back in time to when Lucroy was recovering from a concussion and had a lot of risk surrounding him, but still no. Not given the season Lucroy is having.
  14. I was surprised to check in on Lucroy's stats recently. He is back to being the best catcher in baseball by a comfortable margin (at least so far this season), even without factoring in his substantial pitch-framing value. Some of these rumors (like a Swihart package) might have made more sense if Lucroy was hurt or having an awful season, and thus you could trade risk for risk, but he's not. His trade value has never been higher than it is right now, and I honestly think a current top-20 prospect should be the starting point in a trade.
  15. I find Dave Cameron to be one of the least informed baseball pundits out there. Cool Thanks!
  16. Doesn't seem to get a lot of buzz, but Jordan Yamamoto is suddenly looking like a very interesting prospect.

  18. That is truly one of the most embarrassing trade proposals I can remember seeing printed in a "legitimate" outlet. Braun is not owed substantially more than Sandoval, so we would be trading a guy with health concerns having an MVP season, for a morbidly obese guy with health concerns who, until proven otherwise, appears to have turned into literally the worst regular starter in Major League Baseball? Closer to fair would be: 2B Yoan Moncada (Boston having eaten the signing bonus), C Blake Swihart for C Jonathan Lucroy, OF Ryan Braun (Boston taking on all of Braun's remaining salary)
  19. Braun does not have a massive contract. He's a former MVP who looks healthy and is back to playing like an MVP. Even at 32, does anyone think that if he were a free agent after this season (and assuming he ends the season well) he wouldn't get at least 5/$100?
  20. I don't think it is as impressive as some think(while picking up lots of money), but I am not the biggest Gallo fan. Then again the experts call him a Top 10 prospect so maybe I just don't appreciate the potential. I just don't see him being more than a .250 hitter, lots of power, and a boatload of K's. I realize he could put it together and be a superstar...but I just don't like the odds. That being said those experts(and most GMs) probably love him and value him highly which would make that prospect combo an amazing addition to the farm. I see the potential in Gallo but there's also a decent chance that he ends up like .210/.310/.550 hitter or something. There's also a chance he ends up a .270/.370/.600 hitter and is a multi-time all-star. I just can't shake the feeling that he's going to end up being the former instead of the latter and therefore not the main piece you'd want in a Lucroy trade. You wouldn't want six years of an .860 OPS third baseman?
  21. If they're only going to play him as a 1B, why not just ask for Chris Carter? Granted Carter's defense is subpar, but he might still be a comparable pure 1B to Lucroy. Mets don't make much sense to me given d'Arnaud's presence.
