  1. We have to make up six games on the entire rest of the NL. We are selling very soon. That is the whole point of bringing in Counsell, so he can oversee the rebuild.
  2. Craig is a GENIUS! Nobody was expecting the broken bat infield single play there.
  3. Lind to Houston makes more sense to me. Chris Carter is back to being a pumpkin, and even though they have 1B prospects, they can shift somebody to DH. (Maybe Houston would even do Lind for Singleton)
  4. This is a rebuilding move. My impression is that Counsell's strengths will be in working with young players and developing a cohesive clubhouse (much like Yost). I think strategically he will probably be in the "old school"/tradition/dumb mold.
  5. Heard this: Doug M. seen frantically stocking up on free pens and post-its from front office supply closet.
  6. Evidently he became nauseous standing at first. He stayed in Chicago under a doctor's care and the rest of the team left for Milwaukee. I'm sure he has a concussion. Appreciate the update (genuinely, don't take the rest of the tone of my post as being directed at you!). That's not surprising at all. Of course he got a concussion -- he took a big-league pitch to the head! But hey, let's let him walk it off... [sarcasm]Sorry, but a player's health has to take a back seat when we have a realistic chance of pulling our W% up to .280.[/sarcasm]
  7. Castellanos has been absolutely horrible at the MLB level, and he's a free agent only two years after Lucroy.
  8. If Melvin trades Lucroy for that, I'm lighting a bus on fire outside Miller Park. Some of these proposals sound roughly equivalent to what we got from Los Angeles for a half season of Greinke. We are trading almost three years of Lucroy, the return should be massive. No way should we settle for something we could get from a desperate team at the All Star break in 2017.
  9. I would not trade Lucroy for anything less than a top-15 prospect or multiple top-50 prospects. He would legitimately be the most valuable asset the franchise has ever traded (not because he's the best player, but he is an elite player and is ludicrously cheap for a few more years). And even that big piece or two would not be enough, Melvin should rightfully ask for a couple high-upside fliers to be tacked on as well. I've thrown out my crazy Dodgers scenario in another thread (trading Lucroy and Garza for a package centered on Urias and Alex Guerrero), here's another interesting one: C Jonathan Lucroy 3B Aramis Ramirez (+ $$$) for LHP Carlos Rodon RHP Francellis Montas 3B Trey Micalczewski C Kevan Smith We already know the Brewers have a special fondness for Rodon.
  10. I interpreted that rival executive's comment as saying Lucroy is incredibly good (and cheap) so we won't want to trade him, and that Nelson has a lot of upside so we won't want to trade him. The negative implication is that Peralta is not all that untouchable, though as a positive it's a compliment for Nelson I guess.
  11. Pushing them is one thing, but I do worry about the psychological setback of having a .528 OPS first season followed by a .519 OPS to start the second season (with poor defense on top). Would be nice to see Gatewood build some confidence and get in a groove somewhere - it does not appear Wisconsin is/was the appropriate forum for that.
  12. I don't know a lot about Matz, but a prospect in that range seems like a fair starting point for 3.75 seasons of Segura. Segura was a similarly ranked prospect and has dramatically increased his value by showing he can hit major league pitching. Even with his mediocre 2014, a mediocre MLB shortstop is still valuable. I would want Matz plus another flier or two, at an absolute minimum. I feel like you guys are really undervaluing the (few) good trade pieces we actually have. Lohse and A-Ram are the kind of guys who will only bring back marginal prospects. Segura has legit value.
  13. Some severe overvaluing of Urias in here. Top-10 prospects are not untradeable. The only prospects in recent memory who might have been in that category were Strasburg and Harper. Urias could easily be traded tomorrow, especially by a team like Los Angeles that does not have to rely on prospects because they can sign an ace free agent every offseason. Whether Lucroy is enough is a different matter. Maybe not.
  14. Lucroy is exponentially better than Peralta and Peralta is only under team control for an extra year (Lucroy might actually be cheaper, amazingly). Peralta is simply not that valuable, whereas Lucroy is on one of the most valuable contracts in the game (at least if you value him as an MVP-caliber catcher, which I do). Addison Russell was ranked somewhat similarly to the more optimistic valuations of Urias, and he was traded for a half season of Jeff Samardzija...
  15. I've been a Coulter doubter in the past, but he is really on a roll. Not only a 1.117 OPS, but he has more than half as many HR as K (6 vs 11)
  16. They don't really need Gomez because they have Pederson in CF this season and next. Their OF is still pretty deep even with Puig and Crawford out, because Van Slyke and Guerrero can cover a corner (Ethier in the other). Dodgers are weakest at catcher, so Lucroy makes more sense. What about: LHP Julio Urias 3B Alex Guerrero C Julian Leon RHP Zachary Bird for C Jonathan Lucroy RHP Matt Garza
  17. Lucroy for Julio Urias. I don't think a Zack Greinke type SP would net Julio Urias. I mean literally the kid isn't going to be traded. The Dodgers already have the one pitcher you'd consider trading him for in Kershaw. He's the #1 Pitching prospect in baseball at the moment. I think you could offer Lucroy and Gomez for Crawford and Urias and the Dodgers are hanging up the phone. Lucroy is an MVP-caliber catcher who is under team control for 2.75 more seasons and will be paid peanuts (less than if he were arbitration eligible). I don't know if the Dodgers would trade Urias to win now, but the Brewers have every right to demand a top-10 prospect. Lucroy catching Kershaw would be a beautiful thing. (Preferably embarrassing the Cardinals in the playoffs)
  18. Lucroy for Julio Urias.
  19. Jimmy worried about that W last night. Need a nice cushion between us as the second-worst team in the race for the #1 pick.
  20. Any update on what's going on with Braun? Very strange to voluntarily sit out two days in a row if it's truly not an injury.
  21. I don't view Peralta as a core player. He is entering his third full season now and I just don't see the untapped upside. We would be wise to trade him while he still has a lot of value rather than waiting for a potential that never comes like with Gallardo. Nelson is the only guy on the major league roster that I am excited about, if his new pitch and potential breakout are for real. Braun will be here his entire career (most likely a fixture at 1B sooner or later), and a Segura rebound would be huge too.
  22. I can't recall a worse Brewers starting lineup. Any contenders?
  23. I would like to have Hedges, but Gold Glove defensive catchers who will put up a .550 OPS are honestly not that hard to find floating around the minors. Hedges only has substantial value if he can become a passable hitter, which is the big question mark. So I'm not sold on valuing him like a top-75 prospect or however BA has him ranked. Segura is very valuable, the Brewers should ask for a major haul.
