  1. If another decade passes and Barry Bonds is not in the Hall of Fame or is in the Hall of Fame with an asterisk (??), then the Hall of Fame really has no business existing. The fact that managers are inducted already calls into question its relevance/meaningfulness.
  2. It's worth noting that usually when Melvin is suspiciously quiet, the silence is broken by some major move nobody was expecting. I haven't really seen rumors that the Brewers have even been inquiring on anybody (other than scout sightings here and there). Maybe something is brewing?
  3. Prince Fielder for Matt Cain - it's going to happen!
  4. Definitely not. I don't think a big move is going to materialize (like 1B or SP), but it is honestly not difficult to find upgrades to the current bench. Keep Overbay, he's a good leader or whatever, fine... But Melvin can't find a replacement level 4th OF or INF? Pick up Darwin Barney and trade a non-prospect for the next Chris Dickerson/Nyjer Morgan. At least look like you're trying to do something.
  5. Gordon-Gomez-Braun would be a phenomenal outfield! Don't you think it would be cost prohibitive though, given that we don't really need a LF? Khris Davis has been adequate this season, and the huge haul that Kansas City would want -- assuming we are trading prospects at all -- could be better spent on a 1B or SP. It seems the Brewers have already determined (prior to this season) that Khris Davis can't play 1B, so you'd have to move Gordon to play him everyday, and although he is an elite player (5.0 fWAR this season, third in MLB), a lot of that is from his outfield defense. As a full-time 1B he's no longer an elite player, so it makes no sense to have him change positions. For example, I would rather have Mike Napoli at 1B than Gordon, based on pure offense alone.
  6. Very fitting that a Pittsburgh loss gets us the Heinz bottle.
  7. Great use of the worst batter on the team RRR. Maybe if we tie it Reynolds can pitch the 10th.
  8. Down one run in the ninth inning, and Logan Schafer is batting...
  9. http://www.kunocreative.com/Portals/32387/images/complaint%20department.gif
  10. I think K-Rod is trying too hard not to walk anyone and as a result is giving up way too many HR. Seems like a trend the last two seasons in his stats. We don't mind a 4.0 BB/9, K-Rod, just stop giving up home runs...
  11. Injury free? Yeah right! Just imagine how far ahead we'd be if Wang had never gone to the DL.
  12. This is probably more relevant for 2015 and beyond, but allegedly one of the early frontrunners if Tulowitzki is ever put on the block is St. Louis. That would be a nightmare scenario...
  13. With a split that big, in theory you could use him intelligently in a platoon and just sit him against power pitchers. Evidently when he has the bat speed to square up on the ball he's still moderately dangerous. That said, there is approximately zero chance Roenicke would use him intelligently in such a manner.
  14. Medeiros only has 5.0 IP, so the numbers don't really mean anything. Gatewood's .430 OPS in 105 PA is not super exciting though.
  15. 2012-2014 Ryan Howard (1026 PA) .236/.306/.418 .311 wOBA -22.4 UZR -0.7 fWAR Lyle Overbay (823 PA) .242/.306/.382 .302 wOBA -13.6 UZR -0.4 fWAR Note: this is not praise for Lyle Overbay.
  16. Who does Peavy replace? Not sure he's an upgrade over Nelson at this point. Would make more sense if the Brewers were there hoping to see Uehara.
  17. Right because everyone in the NL would be looking forward to Price, Wainwright, and Wacha in the post season... I know I'd feel great about those match-ups from a Brewer perspective... Are we talking about the postseason or the NL Central race? Obviously adding Price improves them if/when Wacha returns at the very end of the regular season.
  18. I think Axford, McClung, Turnbow, and Ben Sheets all hit 100. Maybe Cordero? Sheets? Really? I don't remember that...thought he was basically a 95 guy. 2004-era Sheets was regularly sitting in the high-90s and I'm fairly positive he hit 100mph at least once. Filthiest pitcher in Brewers history (until the injuries came...)
  19. According to the annual Forbes data, the Cardinals were the 8th most valuable franchise and generated the 5th highest revenue among all major league teams last year: http://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ Their $283 million in revenue was just behind the Dodgers, and far ahead of Milwaukee ($197 million, ninth lowest in baseball). The fact that their payroll isn't higher is presumably why they had the highest operating income of any team last year.
  20. I think the issue is that St. Louis has a national fan base due to their history/success, and thus already are one of the top revenue-earning teams. It would be like the Packers getting some kind of competitive balance advantage in the NFL simply because Green Bay is so tiny.
  21. I think Axford, McClung, Turnbow, and Ben Sheets all hit 100. Maybe Cordero?
  22. David Price just replaces the injured Michael Wacha (2.79 ERA, 3.05 FIP before his injury). I don't see how it dramatically improves the team they were in the first half. The Brewers are much easier to improve because they've been filling positions with improvable players all season (like 1B and 5th SP), so any addition is truly an improvement and not just a replacement.
  23. St. Louis proper is actually surprisingly small. It is a lot smaller than Milwaukee, although the St. Louis metro area is slightly larger than the Milwaukee metro area. But yeah, the are definitely like top 5 in revenue.
  24. Miami gets a pick even though they are in a huge market just because the team is mismanaged and as a result they have no fans? Ok... Excited for the Brewers pick though!
