  1. I trust Peralta more than anyone in our rotation because power arms win in October. Is it power arms that win, or strikeout pitchers? Peralta throws faster than almost any SP in the majors, but for whatever reason he is not a big strikeout pitcher (yet). Honestly, Fiers is the only member of the rotation who racks up strikeouts. Replacing Lohse with Peralta might be wise though, I agree.
  2. Is Jungmann reinventing himself as a pitcher somehow? Weird that he is suddenly striking people out this year (8.3 K/9) when even at the time he was drafted he wasn't perceived as a strikeout pitcher during his dominant college career. First two seasons in the minors his K/9 was mediocre as expected.
  3. Playoff rotation should be: 1) Garza, 2) Fiers, 3) Gallardo, 4) Lohse
  4. Predicting a Gomez HR tonight. Dickey's knuckleball is powerless over Gomez's "guess and swing really hard" approach.
  5. Only two SP in Brewers history with at least 170 IP and a K/9 > 9.0 = Fiers and Greinke (i.e. career totals as Brewers)
  6. Random deep thoughts: I never thought about this before, but isn't the St. Louis Cardinals logo and entire color scheme a giant error? Cardinals have bright orange beaks, I don't know any species of Cardinal with yellow beaks.
  7. Treating this as an all-purpose Wily Peralta thread: In yesterday's game against the Dodgers, I noticed that Wily hit 99 mph at least once, and of course many of us know that Wily is among league leaders in average SP velocity. My question is, Wily is 25 years old now, but is there still room for him to continue adding velocity? According to Fangraphs, he's hit 99.2 mph this season and 99.3 mph last season, whereas in 2012 his max velocity was only 98.4. When he was still a prospect (as late as early last year), scouting reports said that he sat 93-95 mph and topped out at 98 mph max. It seems like he's touching higher than that in game situations, and I was just wondering if there's any chance he could ever hit 100 mph. Not sure it really matters, but would be kind of a cool feather to put in his cap if he joins the triple digit club.
  8. Fully agreed, but having a #6 as solid as Fiers seems like a luxury if it comes at the expense of other needs (1B, maybe 3B, possibly RP). If the payroll can fit Gallardo at $13M + a free agent 1B who is actually good (Cuddyer, LaRoche) and not just a piece of duct tape, then I'm happy to keep both.
  9. Braun's 3 HR game to silence the boos was pretty memorable.
  10. We can offer Lucroy a lifetime contract of... $1 million dollars! http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/1/16/Drevil_million_dollars.jpg
  11. I guess I still don't fully trust Gallardo. That's probably unfair because he's been very solid this season, but I can't forget his 2013 first half and desperately wishing the Brewers had traded him earlier. $13M is probably a no brainer at this point though, just a shame that Fiers won't get another extended look and will have to be a backup SP at best.
  12. Rests A-Ram and brings in another LHP for some variety if Mattingly is rolling with various RP the rest of the way.
  13. [sarcasm]I appreciate how Dodgers fans are chanting "Je-ter" for Braun. Great sign of respect, comparing him to The Captain.[/sarcasm]
  14. I may be the only one with this opinion (especially after tonight) but I would decline Gallardo's $13M option since I think a rotation of Lohse/Garza/Peralta/Nelson/Fiers is very solid. Alternatively they might be able to trade Gallardo. Either way, I feel like they need to free up some money in the starting rotation because they desperately need a 1B (preferably Cuddyer) and possibly a 3B if the situation with A-Ram doesn't work out.
  15. Ok, enough with the PDA, Larry-King-Chair-Thief and girlfriend of Larry-King-Chair-Thief
