  1. I want Gomez to get ejected in the first inning, just to see what would happen. (Maybe I'm a masochist)
  2. Why is Weeks's "inflexibility" such a big deal? Even with Braun/Segura/A-Ram out at once (a worst case scenario) we have enough backup starters on the bench to cover (Herrera/Bianchi/Reynolds, with Overbay at 1B). You're probably not going to start Weeks anywhere but 2B, but if you have a late-inning emergency it's not like he couldn't play anywhere on the field except C/SS. Herrera and Bianchi already offer us the level of flexibility that most major league benches have. I don't see how Weeks being a 2B (instead of a more traditional fourth/fifth OF spot) is a bad thing. In fact it's probably a net benefit, because he could play OF in a pinch, whereas someone like Schafer could never play a credible 2B.
  3. I hope they don't give up on the Wang experiment just due to the current (temporary) roster crunch. Could see him getting cut for a call-up ahead of Weeks though. Can't they just back-date Braun's DL stint so he's be eligible to return in a few days? Not sure the rules on that.
  4. [sarcasm]Jeff Suppan![/sarcasm] I feel like Estrada would have the best composure, but since it's weird to pick your #5 I'd go with Garza. I think he can step up in those situations, and his career postseason stats are better than Lohse's. Lohse has quite a bit of experience though (13 G, 8 GS, 46.1 IP).
  5. This is the K-Rod I remember! A Peralta walk-off HR would be fitting, wouldn't it?

  7. I don't offer as much completely unnecessary filler/padding/rambling as your typical Fangraphs articles, but here you go! http://www.fangraphs.com/statsplits.aspx?playerid=8173&position=P&season=0&split=7.11 Not a neat trend, but seems like you're generally right that he's not quite as effective 0-2 as he once was.
  8. My hope: nobody hurt, storm settles over Busch, funnel cloud reaches down and carries every Brewer pop-up out of the ballpark before receding each time the Cardinals come up to bat.
  9. I think having literally one of the worst seasons of all time (in 2011) followed by a couple below-average seasons makes "horrendous" a somewhat reasonable description. But yeah, he's not like Yuni-at-1B levels of bad or anything. I still want him on the team, I just wouldn't give up anyone like Fiers to take on his contract.
  10. I'm not surprised that a seasoned professional baseball player with prodigious power, who nobody has a scouting report on, is having a great first month. He'll come back down to earth sooner or later when pitchers adjust to his weaknesses (see also: Cespedes, Puig). I still would have loved to see him in Milwaukee, but it's not like we just missed out on Mike Trout (again...) or something. Besides, need to keep room in the budget to sign Korean 3B Jeong Choi this offseason.
  11. ...and he'll never let us forget that he "KNEW" what the record would be. *sigh* It's ridiculous how many times I've been right since last October. If I made a list of it all you'd all be in shock. I knew this team was really really good "before" the season started back in October of last year when I said they would add a top pitcher and have the top offense with top 3 pitching in the NL. All they needed was to sign a top pitcher, add Davis to LF full time and make Gennett the full time 2B man, which that will happen soon as well. 4 years ago I said look for the Brewers to add 2 top SP's and they added Marcum and Greinke, that was when people said the Brewers had a terrible farm system and I said they still will pull it off. I knew my record would be close to what I predicted. Guess you weren't looking into the future when you picked that username though.
  12. "Gallardo is 1-11 with a 6.46 ERA in 17 career starts against the Cardinals." Thankfully, the Brewers tend to do well against "good" pitchers and then play horribly against pitchers like Jason Hammel.
  13. I'm going to say 15-13. Pitching will continue to turn out quality starts, but the offense is going to scuffle a bit until Braun is fully healthy, A-Ram transitions into his normal second half form, and Segura/Davis get comfortable again. On a more optimistic note I think it will be the team's worth month of the season record-wise.
  14. I think you're still buying into a fallacy though. There are definitely going to be cold streaks on the horizon, but there's no reason to think that future cold streaks will conspire to exactly counteract the Brewers hot start. If you think that the "true talent level" of the 2014 Brewers is a .500 W% team (or whatever), the only reasonable expectation is that they will now finish the season 87-75, rather than that they will endure a cold streak at some point and end up finishing 81-81 as you would have expected in the preseason. Obviously you're right that nothing is predetermined in April though, which is part of what makes baseball such a great sport. I think it's fine to optimistically point out that the Brewers "only" need to go .500 (or so) to hit 87 wins, but it's just as likely they collapse like in 2007 or that they have another unbelievable hot streak and finish with 97 wins. Nobody knows right now, but we're definitely in a much better position than we were preseason, expectations wise.
  15. And he looks even better this year posting a line of .265/.393/.529/.922 this year. And he hit 75 HR's the past two years. I realize he's got severe defensive limitations, but the guy walks, hits for a ton of power, would cost much in the way of prospects and given the fact that we're a RH'ed heavy lineup, he'd give us another big power threat in the 6th/7th hole. Being a 3TO guy really starts to be liability when you can barely hit .200. When Dunn was at the top of his game he used to be a consistent .380-.400 wOBA hitter, now he's closer to an average-ish .330 wOBA hitter. That's probably an upgrade over Overbay, but it's severely tempered by the fact that Dunn may be the worst defender in baseball, and we do not have a DH slot. Even though his power has rebounded since 2011, his overall offensive game is merely average and his defense is atrocious, making him an overall borderline-replacement-level player. We already have a version of Dunn in Mark Reynolds. I would be excited to replace Overbay and see what a Dunn/Reynolds platoon could do, but not if it costs anything of value to get Dunn and his fairly substantial contract.
  16. Hopefully. Even if not I'm fine with 2-of-3, just worried that this type of game can be a momentum killer.
  17. I don't mind not sweeping every series, but I hate these games where the Brewers decide to take the day off (or whatever) and make a horrible pitcher look like Sandy Koufax.
  18. Dear Brewers, If there's one thing that could miraculously reverse an entire month of unstoppable momentum, it would be getting no-hit by Jason flipping Hammel.
  19. To add to this, the Brewers bullpen doesn't have a single pitcher in the top 30 RP for pitches thrown. The highest ranked Brewer is K-Rod, at #33, and the only other Brewer in the top 75 is Will Smith (#49). (Not sure if the leader board has been updated with tonight's stats yet, but either way the bullpen is far from overworked despite an incredible month that has led to heavy reliance on our set-up/closer combo).
  20. Could always just have him walk behind Braun on the dugout steps.
  21. Updated on Segura: no concussion, no fracture, just some stitches. Sounds like a day-to-day thing to me.
  22. Nah, they have to pile on Braun for hitting Segura in the head. It will be in the 5 minute mark. Zero mention of the Brewers winning though.
