  1. I was all for bringing him in last offseason, so even though he didn't turn things around (yet) this seems like a great pick up!
  2. Vogelbach is probably third in line for 1B starts at this point behind Tellez and Escobar, so I don't see why we would want to add him to the 25-man right now. But we also don't want to DFA him. So time for some creative injuries/rehabbing This would be extremely shocking considering JBJ is signed for another season (and will likely rebound to being at the very least a very nice fourth outfielder).
  3. We have enough of a division lead that I'm all in favor of resting guys like Narvaez as much as possible down the stretch. I imagine Narvaez will be starting every game of the playoffs.
  4. I consider the 2020 Covid "season" largely meaningless given how demonstrably flukey the effects were on players league wide. As for 2021, Yelich has been dealing with injuries and his overall line was fairly solid prior to his most recent cold streak (like 20 PA?). So the premise of this thread is pretty silly, in my opinion. The advance statistics suggest pretty strongly to me that he is dealing with a lingering injury that is preventing him from hitting the ball as hard as his did in 2018-19. But his batted ball profile and plate discipline are otherwise unchanged, so it's not a matter of simply making less/worse contact. His Contact% is actually slightly up from 2019. He's also swinging at pitches a lot less, suggesting that he is being more timid and less aggressive (again, possibly due to injury).
  5. Considering the offensive production we are getting out of having Tellez/Urias/Escobar, I'd say a missed pick at first every once in a while is a small price to pay.
  6. That's great if true, but can they really diagnose it that quickly? I would think it needs x-rays at a minimum.
  7. Still a great story and happy(-ish) ending in my opinion that he managed to make it back to MLB and to Miller Park for one last inning. I'm guessing his career is probably over but it more or less already was.
  8. The man is 38, hasn't cracked any big league bullpen recently and hasn't pitched at this level in 3 years. How good do you think modern day John Axford is? I'd say the 8.9 K/9, 4.14 ERA, 4.20 FIP line that projection systems peg him for (which already heavily factor in age) is not unrealistic. Nobody is expecting 2011 Axford to come back and anchor the bullpen with Hader. This is a revolving door mop-up position to eat innings down the stretch.
  9. I mean a HBP and a Walk is 2/3rds on a pitching bases loaded bad. The singles may not have been all to flashy but that is bases loaded bad Did you watch the game? Reynolds is a very good hitter and fouled off enough balls until he got HBP (no surprise that Axford is and always has been slightly wild). Stallings should have been out on strikes but the ump blew a call. Axford was locating his pitches well. The last PA to Gamel he may have been injured. I hope he does not. At full strength, there should be no reason for him to be anywhere near the bullpen. Kind of a silly statement if he is still bringing the heat and has had minor league success this season. How deep do you think our bullpen is??
  10. I hope he gets some more chances regardless. Wasn't pitching bases-loaded bad until that last PA.
  11. One of my all-time favorite Brewers pitchers! I'm not expecting miracles, but it doesn't seem that crazy if he is actually hitting 98 mph with success in the minor leagues. His last season (2018) he was still serviceable. Lost 2019 with an injury and then Covid happened, but it is less crazy than Scott Kazimir making it back to the majors for example. Planning to enjoy the nostalgia of seeing him pitch this week (or however long it lasts) with the expectation that he will be unceremoniously sent down as soon as other guys return. Anything more than that will just be gravy.
  12. There are plenty of innings over the rest of the season for all of the above (most of whom have minor league options remaining), it's not an either-or. The only "hard" roster decision (but a good one to have) comes when we get to our first playoff series. I don't know why people are underrating Norris. He has a .354 BABIP this year, that's not going to continue. Even if you don't want to look at his peripherals this season, last year (in a similar sample size actually) he had a 9.1 K/9, 3.25 ERA, 2.87 FIP. Some people on here like to hate on everything! I guess I could see the disappointment if Norris was supposed to be our "big" trade line acquisition, but he is clearly just an additional weapon to deepen the bullpen, with quite a bit of upside, and we gave up very little to get him.
  13. Everybody wants the name brand cereals, but David Stearns shops on that bottom shelf where everything tastes just as good but costs only a third as much
  14. Since it's the Mets, they will probably overpay as though Javier Baez were still an above-average player.
  15. Nice job by the Cubs on this one, though thankfully not a win-now move.
  16. By contrast, he didn't even make the top 30 on MLB.com in our relatively weak system. So a wide range of opinions (though Fangraphs seems like the outlier...) and I feel confident guessing on which end of that Stearns and company fall. Norris is a former elite prospect, is somehow still only 28, has a 3.54 xFIP this season, and can be relied on to eat a lot of innings without getting fatigued. If you want a candidate for this year's Drew Pomeranz, this is it.
  17. Galaxy brain: go after Taylor Rogers on a steep injury discount since we don't necessarily need him until the playoffs.
  18. MASSIVE overpay by the Blue Jays (I guess that's bad for us as buyers. Would still like to see a RP/SP addition.)
  19. I'm sure many will be disappointed if we don't trade for a big name 1B, but honestly between his hot start after the trade, his 2020 and career stats, and his projections, Tellez is a really good add and probably just as good as anybody on the trade market. Just need to go out and get a RP/SP and call it a day.
  20. That trade value calculator is a bit silly. It all depends on how the other team's front office values a prospect. Not far fetched that the Nationals would think Mitchell and Turang are comparable to Ruiz and Gray (or not, we don't know). I think it's an extremely light return for Scherzer and an extra year of Turner. Poor trade by them.
  21. Go "another team"! I'm rooting for the Diamondbacks.
  22. Escobar was traded for to be the more or less everyday starter along with Adames and Wong, and his track record outside of the 2020 Covid season shows that he is now one of the best starters on the team. I would be truly shocked if that is not the case.
