  1. JJ had a DWI once and got caught smoking marijuana twice when he was still a kid (even though a large number of major leaguers probably smoke is regularly). I don't think it's reasonable to infer major addiction issues that could be at play tonight.
  2. Don’t think he would’ve been there this morning then. Not to mention it no longer matters now that he's in the majors (from a testing standpoint).
  3. Theres a couple other things it could be that I don't even want to think about let alone say. I have thought the same.. Genuinely curious what you're alluding to. He quit baseball?
  4. Trout hasn't even been the best OF in the AL this season.
  5. I don't think a pitcher should ever win MVP. There is no Cy Young equivalent for batters.
  6. nice. Who is the only catcher to catch 2 perfect games? [sarcasm]Craig Counsell: "Erik Kratz"[/sarcasm]
  7. So Hader is now tied for the major league record? Seems like almost all 15 have been swinging too!
  8. I had to check on Kratz, as you could guess 0 career triples. He has 844 career PA . all-time leader for PA among players with 0 career triples is a former Brewer catcher...any guesses? I'll guess Jonny Estrada considering it would take him about three minutes to run from home to third.
  9. fwiw, Gio has started six postseason games in recent years. They haven't all been winners but at least he's been there. You can generally tell if he's going to have a bad game if he starts walking people.
  10. Then have Stone Cold Jeremy Jeffress do it, as if he would care. He'd probably have his best outing of the season.
  11. Something tells me, though, that they aren't going to let Burnes' first MLB start be a high-pressure play-in Wild Card game. Then have Hader start, the idea is just to use the bullpen.
  12. I'm sure this has been advocated already, but in a one game playoff there is zero reason other than tradition not to do something like 3.0 IP Burnes, 3.0 IP Hader, 3.0 IP Jeffress We should have enough of a cushion that we could set them all up to be well rested.
  13. Depends on how you look at it. The fact he isn’t getting much consideration recently makes it pretty hard to turn the tides in 10 games. Though a flashy game like tonight can help. I just haven’t seen much if an true #1 consideration. Likely he gobbles up a ton of #2-#5 votes. I think someone like Baez will garner the majority of the first place votes to win it. NOT THAT I DONT WANT YELICH TO WIN IT! I just don’t see in a highly competitive MVP race a small market guy winning it. I think it is better to start hot and then be really good vs. be really good and then get hot. People have been talking about Baez and other for months. We are just starting to see Yelich love. Hard to fill the bandwagon at the end...easier to keep them on. Baez winning with a .328 OBP and comparable-to-worse counting stats than Yelich would be as bad as the time what's his name won the Cy Young. Who is saying he is the frontrunner??
  14. The more I think about it, if the season ended today I would be angry if Yelich did not win MVP. He's on pace for a 30 HR/20 SB, 100 R/100 RBI season, could very well end up winning the NL batting title, has a .380+ OBP, is carrying a playoff team, has had lots of clutch moments, is leading in advanced metrics, and if anything should be overrated compared to his 2018 advanced metrics because of his sterling defensive reputation. How could you vote for anybody else? 10%?
  15. Yelich is comfortably leading the NL in fWAR right now. That doesn't always translate into MVP votes, but given the increasing focus on advance stats and the fact that he is also leading a playoff team (and his value doesn't come from defensive metrics like Cain), <10% seems very pessimistic if things hold steady.
  16. What are we back in the 1920s and only looking at AVG? He has a solid OBP and contributes defensively at a position that would otherwise be a black hole.
