  1. I'm not sure how having a competitive balance pick "makes up" for losing a 2nd round pick. Signing a player and losing our 2nd round pick doesn't grant us a competitive balance pick, we're just losing a 2nd round draft pick on a likely mediocre, expensive free agent. we've already got the comp pick between 1st and 2nd round, so if the brewers lost their 2nd rd pick for signing a player who recieved a QO, its a wash/end up with a higher signing pool with a "normal" number of draft picks.
  2. so i was thinking... if the brewers manage to stay with a top 10 draft pick, but get a healthy team this offseason going into spring training... if they go after a player who received a Qualifying Offer (like Loshe), they would lose their 2nd round pick, right? They could then make up for the fact they would lose their 2nd rd top 10 pick by having a Competitive Balance pick between 1st and 2nd round, right? not saying they should/will do this, but I think its an interesting thing to think about, the fact that they're a .500 team if you get rid of May with an unhealthy team, and could get a quality player and still have that top 10 pick.
  3. when you're not playing for anything but the top pick, why get rid of the problem?
  4. also, tigers = playoff bound; angels = 10 under .500
  5. I dont even get how anyone can realistically argue this is close. Cabrera could potentially win back to back triple crowns, plus... 2013 League Ranks: • 1st in AL in BA (.365) • 2nd in AL in HR (36) • 1st in AL in RBI (110) • 1st in AL in R (85) • 2nd in AL in BB (69) • 1st in AL in SLG (.686) • 1st in AL in OPS (1.145)
  6. Cabrera, no doubt about it
  7. would love to see it happen but it wont, he's expected to get Puig type money
  8. i'd like to say that Peralta has been pretty consistant since the end of May. 3.11 ERA over 15 starts, a 2.06 ERA in the last 8. he's had far more ups than downs in the last two and a half months.
  9. he will never be elsewhere, so might as well not bother thinking/wishing/hoping for that to happen john. sorry to burst your bubble
  10. this type of lineup has led the brewers to a 14 - 10 record since the allstar break, so, no, looking at that lineup, doesnt tell us everything we need to know. it was the "healthy" star roster of may that put us in the position they're in this season.
  11. dont you fret my pet, ive got this thread ready to start for the offseason
  12. Harrison pitched last night for the pirates in their game against the rockies, lost 10-1, Jay Hay pitched a clean batter Josh Harrison has an ERA of 0.00, an WHIP of 0.00, an opponent BA of .000, and a strand rate of 100%
  13. cant wait for Yuni to be the starting 2B for the rest of the season
  14. im really curious who claimed Loshe
  15. you're a regular commenter on JSOnline, arent you?
  16. The Brewers placed Lohse on waivers yesterday, tweets Danny Knobler of CBS Sports. The claiming period for him ends tomorrow. The 34-year-old Lohse is enjoying another fine campaign in his first season with Milwaukee. He's pitched to a 3.23 ERA with 5.8 K/9, 1.5 BB/9 and a 39.2 percent ground-ball rate in 139 1/3 innings on the season. Lohse is owed $11MM in each of the next two seasons and is earning $11MM this season as well. However, $7MM of that total is deferred to 2016-18, so he's technically only owed $1.136MM of this year's $4MM guarantee. Lohse's cost isn't exorbitant, but an additional $22MM for his age-35 and age-36 seasons may give some teams pause.
  17. huh you're right, i just noticed they're at 39 active out of 45.
  18. seeing as how 13 NFL players have been suspended since april for failed PED tests, and major league baseball has had zero players suspended for failed tests since april.. i'd say the NFL has a leg up on baseball
  19. Narv-dog isnt on the 40-man either, so they'd have to clear a spot in order to bring him back to the majors
  20. Do you have a link? I am just curious - is that why he picked to go to the U of Miami? I had never heard that before. really? I dont know anyone who goes to U of Miami for anything but one type of education
