  1. Oswalt is scheduled for Sundayt in Texas, just FYI
  2. I was so bummed that Veras was all we could get for McGehee from the Pirates... so bummed.
  3. pretty sure a september call up is the only option for rogers at this moment anyways. they're not going to bring him up earlier, even when Greinke is traded, there is no room in the rotation for him. Yo, Marcum, Wolf, estrada, Fiers, september bring in Peralta and Rogers to spell Fiers so he doesnt wear out.
  4. I was also talking about the beginning of the season, I had very little faith in the way our pen was constructed outside of krod/axford as the 8th and 9th guy... and as the season went on, I lost all faith in everyone. the rotation would give us 6+ innings, and then it would all fall apart.
  5. hey everyone, so I live far away, but i stream radio shows at work to help pass time. i live in pittsburgh, and im tired of listening to steelers and penn state on the radio all the time. you'd think with how great the pirates are playing they'd talk more baseball... but no, 19 years of losing has even kept the radio talk to a minimum... so heres my question... what stations in wisconsin should I check out? or what shows/times should I look into? for the last packers superbowl I listened to a couple different stations, but I cant seem to figure out which ones those were. looking for anything Brewers/Packers related! thanks!
  6. Which is why his walks, k's, and pitch speed were posted. If he gets hot, I'd like to bring him up and maybe get him some confidence. my response was to Funketown's initial post with only ERA's posted
  7. I actually do remember the 90's even though I would like to forget. We will have Yo, and I think there is a good chance Marcum is back for one year. If we have those two with Estrada, Fiers, Thornburg, Rogers, and Peralta I think there is a chance we have a solid rotation. high-five!
  8. Fedex guy added a couple extra pages to the contract
  9. right, Loe WAS the 8th guy, he sucked in that role, and they got KRod moving Loe into a situational use only last season with Saito/Hawkins as the 6/7th guys. Loe is used FAR to much out of the pen. Estrada probably would be a good long reliever if he wasnt in the rotation right now...
  10. you cant really rely on ERA in the minors to dictate how a pitcher will be in the majors. there is a big difference in defensive skills that can skew a pitchers ERA in A/AA/AAA compared to the majors.
  11. I guess my point is 2-fold. A) 98% of knowledgeable fans believed that the strength of this team was the bullpen going into this season. So "focusing on strengthening the bullpen" is a science that it seems like cannot be mastered. B) I agree that you keep Gallardo (unless blown away by an offer), but even with him, it is anyone's guess if next year's starters are even close to as good as this year's starters. Yes, I agree, all you need is 1 or 2 established above average starters, but then you are hoping that the rest of the rotation figures it out and contributes. With the team we have next year (sans any FA additions that we cannot predict), no one here can say they will be as successful. That's the risks you take with younger/cheaper players. in response... A.) im sorry, maybe I am that 2%, but I told all my friends here in pittsburgh that the brewers bullpen was not going to be as good, and was probably going to be the biggest issue for this season. Losing both Hawkins and Saito, even with their half-season'ish of production last year, and not replacing them with anyone from the FA market was a huge red flag to me. Going into this season, i thought 8/9 with Axford/Krod would not be the issue, but the middle/long-relievers (loe, parra, estrada, dillard, mcclendon)... only to find out that everyone was going to be terrible. you're right, its tough to predict and plan for your bullpen, but if you have a chance to sign veteran relievers (which the brewers do not have any of outside of KRod), you have to get them. B.) And with the team we have next year (sans and FA additions that we cannot predict), no one can also say that they wont be successful.
  12. you weren't impressed by dillard and his 'chops?!
  13. that is just to give you an idea of how cost-controlled the brewers bullpen is for the next 4-5 years.
  14. Parra, Loe and Veras are all Arb3 eligible next season, all are FA in 2014 axford is Arb1 eligible, not a FA until 2017 season Estrada and Narveson are both Arb1 eligible next season, will not be FA until 2016 Dillard and Kintzler are both still in pre-arb years, their final, and will not be FA until 2017 any call-ups from the minors for september or the start of next season would be in pre-arb years, they will be on the Brewers team payroll until 2018 at least.
  15. Parra has at least one more Arb year left.
  16. Did Hart's contract get extended and no one told me? Hart is only under contract through 2013. We have Gamel for, what, 4-5 more years? yeah, no one told you, or even Hart for that matter. he was extended to 2018 for $1,028,434, total. took one hell of a discount.
  17. you strengthen my post by establishing more reason why you cannot trade Gallardo. rotation MIGHT not be as good as this years, but it doesnt have to be shutdown incredible to win the division. look at the Reds and Pirates. they've got one or two solid arms and a bunch of guys who help them get through the first half of a game without getting blown out, and then they let the pen close it down. Brewers have never had a run-scoring problem in the last 6 years, why add to the problems for next year? focus on strengthening the bullpen for next year and we're competitive in a division where all you need is one or two Gallardo/MacDonald/Burnett/Ceuto type starters in the rotation.
  18. 6-man Rotation Gallardo Marcum Fiers Estrada Thornburg/Peralta/Rogers (these three splitting the last 2 spots of 6 man rotation equally) I am really into this for the month of September. Thornburg could be shutdown if need-be due to arm fatigue that he apparently now has... and you could "audition" Peralta/Rogers to spell Fiers, so he doesnt pitch too many innings this year.
  19. I think if they're taking this long to trade Greinke, that Gallardo would take Melvin even longer to get a respectful return for someone under control for 2+ years
  20. whelp, guess it didnt happen yesterday. maybe you were posting about today, yesterday
  21. seriously, we were a bullpen away from winning this division. the starting pitching, hitting, defense were not the problem on this team, so freaking out and trading away Gallardo/Hart/Ramirez is just foolish. the brewers will still be good next year and the year after.
  22. you cant get compensation for players traded mid-season, only players who start the year on your roster. so offering him arbitration means you just signed him for $12.5 million
  23. also, Santana is a FA this offseason. seriously, why would the brewers trade for someone they might not even keep???
