  1. between 4.20 and 6.66
  2. they both won ROY in 2001, talk about an insane year... oh, and the year of Barroid Bonds, too!
  3. traded for Qualls. wow, talk about an oppportunity for Casey... good luck filling in while A-rod and Tex are hurt... he'll be on the bench shortly
  4. in the final minute, a deal was made
  5. one could say that the presence of Broxton could have prevented the implosion that happened....
  6. Ichiro won ROTY, and he was 27, Aoki is 30 He also won MVP, batted .350, and had a WAR of 6.1. Aoki has a WAR of 1.1. Adjust that since I think his fielding is much better than the statistics are currently giving him credit for, and he might be a 2 WAR player by the end of the year. Very solid rookie season, but not a ROTY candidate in my opinion. Fiers should be able to throw 35 more innings this year (I hope they cut him off between 155-160) and hopefully get to a WAR of around 3 which probably wont be enough given the head start Miley and Lynn have. As a disclaimer, obviously I used WAR to compare these players while the voters most likely wont. I simply used it because it takes into account time played, position, and production...all of which voters will look at. yeah, i know, his rookie year was pretty unreal. probably one of the best rookie seasons ever, IMO. im just sayin, the only offensive rookies that are 1/2 that ive seen are Aoki and Harper, and if theres a case for Harper, theres a case for Aoki, too. doesnt really matter, NL ROTY is going to be blown away by the attention Trout will get with everything he's done this year. that kid is unreal.
  7. I think Aoki's age and where he came from have little to do with it. Nomo won in 1995 at age 27, Ichiro won at age 27, Sasaki won in 2000 at age 32.
  8. thats what everyone I know here in pgh is saying, later McGehee... talk about a log jam at 1B now with him, Sanchez and Jones
  9. Ichiro won ROTY, and he was 27, Aoki is 30
  10. Aoki is second in all of MLB rookies in batting to Trout, who is going to run away with the ROTY in the AL. so lets all hope Wade implodes!!!! Aoki really has a shot!
  11. more I think about it, Aoki really could be the NL ROTY before Fiers. I really like the idea of that! I for one am a huge Aoki fan!
  12. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching/_/position/rookie/order/false but if you go to batting... Aoki is the top. so pitching is Wade Miley, but Aoki could be a sleeper... Fiers has to pitch over 100+ innings I think before he'll get any real strong consideration.
  13. yeah, I dont see how Harper can be a "lock" for ROTY... kid is good, but not run-away good like Trout has been. I'd say Fiers is a strong candidate if he can keep up his level of success
  14. Victorino, Hanley Ramirez, Choate, League and soon-to-be Dempster... they're definitely making a run for it right now... crazy since the ownership changed so recently and they were in bankruptcy less than a year ago...
  15. I'm not sure the D'Backs would give us Bauer and Skaggs alone for Yo and Hart much less with Upton. Those two will be under financial control for the next six years. I'd do Yo and Hart for Bauer and Skaggs and then take a vacation until the end of next season. fixed
  16. Upton is not being traded, i dont know why its continued to be talked about. Gallardo has two more years under contract, if the brewers trade him they better get a ******** in return... that being said, they better not trade him.
  17. brewers took a Boston catcher before, they MUST be in on another one!!
  18. Johnny Cueto & Clayton Kershaw are two I found in less than 5 min. just checking Baseball-Reference's NL pitching leaderboard. sorry, my place of employment likes to block websites on and off, so currently I cant access BR. easier to have you do it for me
  19. really? maybe im not aware of them, but do you have any recent examples of pitchers who have made that jump without significant time in AAA?
  20. and he should start and stay in AAA next year, too. unless his spring training performance is out of this world, there is no reason why he should just basically skip AAA into the majors. the few outings he has had in milwaukee have been mediocre, he could benefit from half a year or even a full year in AAA. the jump from AAA to MLB is big as it is, but AA to MLB is really difficult.
  21. Thornburg shouldnt be brought back up until 2013. he needs to just finish the rest of the year in AAA and get back into a groove. there are other rotation arms who can be brought up like Peralta and hell, even Vargas for all I care at this point... but Thornburg's schedule is all out of whack... what benefit is it going to be for him to come back in 3 weeks and sit in the pen/bench and only pitch a couple of innings every now and then>?
  22. yeah, kind of a weird trade, I can tell you that all the bandwagoners are calling in and saying that the buc's are finched... which is being a bit over-dramatic... but im not sure I see the point of Snider in the OF if only to move Jones to 1B and McGehee to the bench/3B platoon. OF is the one position the Pirates have a good bit of depth outside of the pen... so its kind of weird they'd trade from one strength to add to another strength..
  23. Maholm has been lights out over the last month+. doesnt he have an ERA of 1.00? pretty nuts, seeing how he hasnt been that dominant since... his rookie year? or am I thinking of Zack Duke? Either way, Cubs rolled the dice with him, and it looks like they won that gamble
  24. Cubs are burning down everything
