  1. Yep. Scared of the name factor. Woodruff doesn’t have one (yet) but Walker had that top prospect pedigree so he must be worth a kings ransom and he would for sure improve us. This move would make so little sense to me. Our club would get worse this year and most likely in the future.
  2. Why the heck are we giving up so much? That’s my thoughts. And we already have Drury on the team. His name is Perez.
  3. This stuff is so silly.
  4. Again you are incorrect. It wasn't because of the rotation that the Brewers missed the playoffs last year it was because of the offense. The offense fell off a cliff a few times last year and the Brewers as a whole only had a WRC+ of 93. No team in the modern era has had a WRC+ lower than 98 win a world series. Majority of playoff teams have had a WRC+ of about 100 and there usually very few teams that make it who are below that mark. The worst xFIP to win the World Series for starters belongs to the Royals at 4.48. A staff of nothing but #3 pitchers has about the same chance as a team with multiple #1's to win in the playoffs. The Nationals didn't make it to the World Series again last year they only made the playoffs and were beat by a team that didn't really have a #1 type pitcher. The Cubs pitching staff last year was a bunch of #2's and 3's that beat a staff that has an ace and an almost ace. Yes, the offense was a big factor that the Brewers didn't get into the playoffs as a whole, but down the stretch they suffered big time by not having a consistent rotation. They missed by ONE game, and maybe if they didn't have to start guys like Guerra, Jeremy Jeffress, and Aaron Wilkerson they could have done it. I'm not saying the Pitching right now is terrible, what I am saying is we have the resources to improve - we should take major steps to do it. The outfield was decent last year too - and we took a major step forward to improve it. We can do the same with pitching rather than recycling the same guys and "lesser" guys. They went 16-12 down the stretch.
  5. You don’t remember correctly. Our offense was really to blame for missing the playoffs in the second half and Stearns cheap approach to the bullpen created losses in the first half. Our starters were really good a year ago. Top 10 good.
  6. Brewers aren't going anywhere with a rotation full of 3's and 4's. Anderson has been good but it took him a while to get there. Davies can be inconsistent. If you want to compete you need proven starters. IF they can get to the playoffs, they will get shellacked. Only way to get to be a “proven” pitcher is by letting some of these guys go out and prove it.
  7. Smart move on the Astros part. Catching department needs an upgrade. Three-way deal... let’s grab McCann and dump Vogt.
  8. Is it wrong to hope Darvish blows out his arm in Spring Training? I mean, he’s got $120 million to go live just fine.
  9. Jimmy Nelson, Chase Anderson
  10. Two pitchers trending the wrong direction. Sounds like the Brewers so you’ll probably be right. Oh joy!
  11. So the Cubs would have to hope that he’s worth it for the entire contract No they don’t. They’re trying to win a WS over the next 2-3 years. If they do that and he sucks for the last three years, so what? They’ll probably just raise their salary “cap” and replace him. Rich get richer.
  12. We are always on plan B. It’s why we have an empty trophy case.
  13. It is reactionary if we settle for what’s out there. Darvish was it. He’s the only rotation changer. The rest aren’t worth the money coming to them. This is a perfect chance to not try to catch the Cubs but to out smart them. Find the deals, not the leftovers.
  14. Please Stearns. Please do not do a reactionary signing.
  15. That’s not true. Suter could very well be a quality #5 guy. Numbers suggest it and he competes his butt off. The guy started 14 games last year and gave us a mid 3 ERA with a 1.2 WHIP.
  16. Signing Arrieta will be the worst decision they could make. It will offset all the good they have done so far this offseason. The guy will be a straight bum soon enough.
  17. Absolutely. Johnson and Counsel are keepers for the long term. Like TL and Duncan. I think we will have other pitchers mysteriously pitch above what projections have them at too. Just a feeling.
  18. I hate using 3-yr data on Nelson and Anderson to tell me where they rank. They are different pitchers now under Johnson. I think we have a rare gem, like the Cards had for awhile. I truly believe that.
  19. I'll take McHugh and Woodruff with Suter as my spot starter/long man overpaying for Lynn and Cobb. It isn't really even a question for me. Add a guy like McHugh that has shown to be a really good pitcher and let Anderson, Chacin, Davies, and Woodruff do their thing. I would too. McHugh won't be cheap though. Not Archer crazy but not a minor trade. Maybe not cheap but it shouldn’t take front of the line prospects to get it done.
  21. So there are what, four or five NL teams with better starting pitching ......and we lost our best pitcher? Replacing Nelson's 3.49 with Chacin's 3.89.
  22. I won't, this team isn't making the playoffs with a bunch of 4 ERA guys. There were only five teams last season who had their starting pitching staffs under a 4 ERA: 1: LAD- 3.39 2: CLE- 3.52 3: ARI- 3.61 4: WAS- 3.63 5: NYY- 3.98 #10: Brewers were at 4.10
  23. I've seen you say this in a few threads, but I don't recall that. I only heard Braun say he's willing to try and the team say they're going to try him there. It's very possible I missed something, but where did you see that? He is more likely guessing. But if they do really open up the season with Santana on the roster, it will all depend on how comfortable Braun is at 1B during spring training. If he steps in there and plays great, you may just see him stick there. If he looks awkward or makes a ton of errors, then you probably won't. It has already been stated by Braun and by the Brewers that he will be playing there in Spring Training. Until it happens and everyone sees what it looks like, it is everyone's guess as to how it will work out.
  24. I think the general argument of players/agents right now is wrong. Trying to argue that owners should pony up and meet outlandish asking prices simply because revenues are increasing is a dreadful argument. The general public can see how bad a large chunk of these free agent contracts end, especially the later years. Heck part of the reasons GM's have less money to work with is all the garbage contracts their books are saddled with, but agents like yourself conveniently never mention those. I personally don't want to see Arrieta or Darvish get a 6 or 7 year deal from the Brewers, the later years will be brutal. I'm sure the fans of other teams share a similar sentiment. GM's that mismanage their money/roster will show poor results and get themselves fired, so this isn't something you can narrow down to the ownership level. If you framed your argument for a revamp of the system, trying to get players more money in their primes...that's a much better argument that I can get behind, and I'm sure the general public can as well. +1
  25. In terms of OPS+ Thames would have been their 7th best hitter last year, narrowly beating out their current 1B Gurriel by 1 point. Take out Thames's monstrous first month and he's probably not an upgrade over any of their non-catcher hitters. Thames had an OPS+ of 147 last season vs RHP and an OPS against RHP of .933 The Stros had a team OPS of .827
