  1. A OF Ops'ing under .700 at Colorado Springs? No thanks.
  2. Has a player ever retired mid season and stuck on with the team as a coach?
  3. Villar with the knock. Beginning to become a big favorite of mine. Fun to watch!
  4. Boston needs pitching. Maybe Lucroy plus Anderson or Peralta would bring back more. While neither of those guys have been stellar. Anderson has been better as of late and they have already been linked to Peralta.
  5. If he keeps it up, and stays healthy, I guarantee they will be talking about him by July 1. People are not talking about him now because of his nagging injuries and large salary. he is on the Milwaukee Brewers and they are currently 20-26. The brewers have played 46 total games and Braun has appeared in only 38. That's a 75% clip and means Braun is on pace to play in only 121 games. At his salary level, I would think teams would want at least 140 games out of him.
  6. I'd rather see him get regular at bats instead of Flores who has a fly swatter bat. I'm with Danzig. Broxton is 26, looks like he could pass for 19, and hits like Michael Jordan. 15 K's in 23 AB's? Really?? If the Brewers had quality pitching any kind of major league caliber OF talent other than Braun, there'd be at least a remote scenario where they could hang in a wild card race. That sort of ended when they dealt Davis and got no major league talent back. That was the plan so nobody should be surprised I suppose.
  7. Exactly. Other than Hill (who we all know is here to build trade value), there isn't an older player blocking a younger one from playing. Kirk, Carter, etc... are still well within the age bracket of their primes and can be very valuable to this team moving forward this season and beyond.
  8. This next 7 games will tell us quite a bit about this Brewers team. Whether or not they want to be in the mix for a longer period of time this season could come down to taking care of business against Cincy and then figuring out a way to win series against the Cardinals. Hopefully it starts with a sweep of the Braves tonight!
  9. It would be one thing is Arcia and Phillips were stuck on the bench behind Nieuwenhuis and Hill but we are not talking about those types of prospects. We are talking about second chance-r guys who we picked basically off the heap to see if any of them could be salvaged on this team. I think Counsell is doing a great job of playing guys here and there. We are a strong week away from making some noise in the National League. And this very well could happen finishing off the Braves and then heading home to play Cincy.
  10. Yeah they've gotten off to a rough start. He also wasn't the GM of that team and people do learn things and take different approaches.
  11. Junior Guerra continues to just do his job. Impressive. Only 3.5 games back of the Cards, 6 of the WC. We get the Cards come Monday too. Would be nice to head into that series even closer in the standings!
  12. Most ridiculous post I've seen in awhile. A fan upset at their team for playing their best 25 guys. Not only that but a guy like Nieuwenhuis, Hill, etc.. Can actually bring pieces back if they continue to do well. On top of that, if this team didn't start off pitching so bad we would be even closer to the Wild Card. This team is starting to play some good baseball and that's without Garza, Knebel, and Smith. How you can't enjoy what this team is doing is really beyond me.
  13. Villar coming through again. Guy continues to do things to help this ball club.
  14. There isn't. Harvey just gets people talking because he's a big name.
  15. Absolutely not. This does not set us up for the future at all. Didn't you just write this in the Jimmy Nelson thread: So Jimmy Nelson is needed for the future, but Matt Harvey wouldn't help? I understand the argument that we don't need to give up anything to keep Nelson (other than the missed opportunity of whatever we could get in return in a trade), and we arguably can get a more valuable package in return for Lucroy, but the reasons for having or not having the individual pitchers on the team during the rebuild seems contradictory. Matt Harvey at the dollar figure he will be at after this year will not be worth it to trade Lucroy for him. That's why. Also, he has been atrocious. So we would take our biggest trade chip and move him for a pitcher that may suck. Yeah, really sets us up for the future. Jimmy Nelson is ours and we control him until the year 2021. Not really comparable.
  16. Absolutely not. This does not set us up for the future at all.
  17. I just can't see them parting ways with a pitcher of his talent after a shaky start to a season. Why wouldn't they just try to sit him down, let him figure it out and keep one of the better pitchers in the game?
  18. Well for all the complaints, Villar just worked a 7 pitch walk, stole second and scored on a hit. All with two outs to take the lead in the eighth.
  19. Weeks also got hurt, multiple times. Not to sound like the Weeks defender here but if he didn't sustain the injuries he did, he was one of the best second basemen in all of baseball.
  20. One has to think that Julio Teheran would be moved by Atlanta if they are truly in a full rebuild.
  21. "Lefties take longer to develop"?? Nonsense. Bumgarner debuted at 19. Kershaw at 20. Sabathia at 20. Chris Sale at 21. All had less minor league experience than Hader and none has had any significant injuries other than Sabathia much later in his career. "Too slight"??? Sale is listed at 6'6" 180. Obviously, the perception at the time he was drafted was that Hader wasn't in their class and that's going to result in slower progress. But scouts make mistakes and if they did a 2012 re-draft today, Hader would be right up there. All 1st round picks who are definitely treated differently than someone drafted in the 19th round as Hader was. He is not in the pedigree of those you have listed making it an apples to oranges comparison. And of course scouts can be wrong. And hopefully the were on Hader.
  22. Exactly. We've traded away a cumulative 0.3 WAR so far. Segura (1.0 WAR) Tyler Wagner (0.4 WAR) Davis (0.1 WAR) K-Rod (0.0 WAR) Rogers (0.0 WAR) Sardinas (-0.4 WAR) Lind (-0.8 WAR) Complaints about light returns or selling low seems like just looking for a reason to complain. Yes and I am on the side of Segura returning back into the pumpkin eventually.
  23. I am actually pleased with what he has done in the short time of being the Brewers GM. I mean, what did we expect in less than one full year at the helm?
  24. Is that some Melvinism like "speed takes longer to develop"? There are fewer LH pitchers, so they are fewer in the big leagues, but they hardly take longer to develop. Your opinion but it sure does seem to take them to they are closer to 30 for them to "get it" than right handed pitchers. My statement had nothing to do with the number of left handers in the MLB. I even think of a guy like Randy Johnson. He was good during his career but was at his best in his 30's.
  25. Lefties take longer to develop. He's only 22 and lighting it up at AA. I don't want to hear the "he doesn't pitch deep into games" because they aren't allowing him to. It is nothing that he is doing. The Brewers and doing Brewer things and being overly cautious with their prospect. I wish they weren't this way sometimes but it doesn't look like it will be changing anytime soon.
