  1. http://www.nytimes.com/2016/04/03/sports/baseball/baseballs-endangered-numbers.html Good read. Thought I'd share.
  2. Jungmann better not be going anywhere. He needs to pitch and pitch well at a major league level. We need guys like him going forward to either be a part of the future or bring back the future in trades.
  3. Burnett did not make the Nats 25 man roster and should now be a free agent. Lefty coming back from an injury. Didn't allow a run in 9 innings in spring training. I think he might be an upgrade over Torres and would give another lefty in the pen until Smith returns. Then whoever is tossing it well between him and Cappy could stay while the other is expendable.
  4. Ryan Braun hindering three straight games to end spring training brings me some hope that he is healthy and ready to go. Santana smacked homers in back to back games as well as Scooter and Luc hitting the ball well. Pitchers... Not so much. Other than Nelson.
  5. Seems like a good addition.
  6. Good chance Arcia isn't on this team until September ball ups/next season. By that time we'll know where Rivera and Villar fit going forward. I doubt Rivera is going back to AAA if he's playing well. Either way, Arcia isn't and shouldn't be in the plans for this season. No reason to burn service time unless this team has a magical season of some sorts.
  7. Garza left the game with shoulder tightness today. Something to keep on eye on. Jungmann also pitched today so he could slide into that spot if need be.
  8. Jeffress and a couple minor pieces get him?
  9. Pass. We can take our chances on Carter smacking home runs and some dumb GM swapping something of value for his power later this season or the next.
  10. You're right, they can more often but they still don't consistently. His philosophy is to hit pitches he can hit hard. It's a great philosophy to have. Santana has the same approach to some extent.
  11. You sold me. Kirk it is.
  12. The United States didn't qualify for the olympics? Sad.
  13. Call it a rebuilding or tanking year all anyone wants. I want this team to smack around a few teams to start the year and get some confidence brewing in that clubhouse. It will only help for this year and the future by having guys actually perform well.
  14. You and your strikeouts, I tell yah. I think a reason to keep Kirk over Presley would be because Kirk is more versatile in the OF over his major league career. Either way, I hope there is a way that one of them is in Milwaukee and the other is stashed in AAA. However that happens, I'm completely fine with. Depth. Depth. Depth. Going to need it.
  15. presley has no minor league options remaining. if the brewers add him to their 25-man roster and then try to outright him to the minor leagues, presley can refuse the assignment (as he's been outrighted before) and declare free agency. nieuwenhuis is in the same boat. out of minor league options, and he's already been outrighted once. if the brewers try to outright him a second time, nieuwenhuis can declare free agency. Well then. That doesn't simplify the decision. We should just cut both and see what Kenny Lofton is up to. This team has missed a true leadoff hitter!
  16. I'd literally rather players with less talent get out of the way more quickly. If Villar goes out and has an 1100 OPS at the break, great. I'd just rather not stick with him if he's going to be not good, which I think he won't be. If he ends up being moderately not awful for a few months while Rivera rides the pine, who does that help? I think I'd rather see Hill tank (not that I want anyone to) to get Rivera playing time. We need guys like Villar to be better than advertised for this to be a quicker turnaround than what it could be.
  17. At least it won't be Shane Peterson?
  18. I'm just not sold on him. He's light years behind Rivera defensively and has big questions on the offensive side. He's kind of fast I guess? I can understand not being sold on him but wanting him to tank literally makes no sense. The whole point of this rebuild is to find as much talent as possible and acquire as much as possible. If guys like Villar tank, that doesn't help that process.
  19. This honestly makes no sense to me. Why would we want any young, switch-hitting SS to tank?
  20. Don't know the contract but it just can't be that expensive. But there are numerous quotes from Counsell about why Capuano was the choice. He is our gritty vet of 2016. http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/373768651.html "With 'Cappy,' we're getting versatility; we're getting a great teammate." manager Craig Counsell said. "We think he's an old dog we can teach some new tricks to. All of those factors combined make Cappy a guy we wanted on this roster. "Those aren't in any way meant to be slights to Franklin. It's just what kind of drew us to Chris." "People like Chris are going to help us," said Counsell, who along with Capuano was part of the six-player package the Brewers received from the Arizona Diamondbacks for Richie Sexson on Dec. 1, 2003. "Losing Will, and going back even farther, losing Frankie Rodriguez, there's a void down there, not only the quality of arms, but there's a void of leadership, a little bit. I view Chris as just solid and somebody who will help with the foundation." "I'm excited," he said. "I had a chance to play with him early in my career. He's just an awesome guy and a great guy to have in the clubhouse. Very professional in the way he goes about his business every day, which is something I think can benefit some of the less-experienced guys we have on the roster. "Obviously still performing well. It's definitely a good story."
  21. Let it go. He stinks vs. lefties. Just let it go. http://i2.kym-cdn.com/photos/images/original/000/540/656/f26.jpg
  22. Hmm.. not a shocker to me. Once he was outrighted this offseason the writing was on the wall for him with this organization. I really hope he can figure out the strike zone and become patient. He just flat out needs to get on base more.
  23. Panic much? Spring training stats are soooooooooooooo meaningless. Spring training stats are not an appropriate way to gauge a player, at all.
