  1. when I added Harmon's name to the list, I put him there because I know he did some fill-in work for Uecker at times. That's the only reason; should have clarified that he wasn't really a side-kick.
  2. Hmm, my memory of this resides even in the 80s when I was a kid. I would guess that when Ueck was gone taping "Mr. Belvedere" episodes that whoever was the sidekick at the time (Dwayne Mosely, Pat Hughes, Merle Harmon, whoever) did most of the PBP and then when Ueck came back he let them continue for a couple of innings here and there. Again, I couldn't tell you if that's true or not, it's only speculation from memories of my youth.
  3. that won't happen since Uecker likes to take some of his innings off by visiting other TV/Radio booths or visit with other visiting famous people. I also was unaware that other teams did not do the "rotating" PBP thing that the Brewers have done until I listened to some games on XM while I was driving cross-country. I always thought what the Brewers did was the "norm." Finally, I'm pretty sure that Pat Hughes takes at least a half inning off (maybe even a full inning) in the 4th or 5th as I've heard some other guy on their radio team for just a very short period of time during the games and then Pat is back for the rest of the game. (I am, in case you're wondering, commenting on a handful of posts at the same time. Sorry for not quoting anybody but I'm really pooped out today.)
  4. somewhere in my mind the "Hallelujah Chorus" is playing.
  5. as soon as the Cardinals clinched, I began my Thursday night show watching and this episode of Parks and Rec was pure comedy gold. I really needed the laughs produced from the episode. Ron was just pure money, as always. Two eps in a row of Community getting me to laugh, although I'm disappointed that it's now two eps in a row of going with the same formulaic content of "and now the story from each character's point of view." The Office was simply "okay" however, even though a few moments made me laugh. And The League (on FX) was uproariously funny (and vulgar) this week. Too bad it may be the last episode I get to watch for a while, what with Directv and FOX having an impasse and making multiple channels disappear on Tuesday.
  6. Assuming the Cardinals hold on to win, I'd like to hear/read a quote from a Cardinal that acknowledges the role Nyjer Morgan had in turning the Cardinals season around. I still hold to the idea that Morgan's twitters after the "altercation" with Carpenter lit a fuse under the Cardinals' butts and that was all she wrote. Never mind Atlanta losing worse than the Astros in the month of September (pure hyperbole--I have no idea if they really did.) All the Cardinals needed was that spark to get them motivated and it was over. Thanks, Nyjer. No really.
  7. probably would be interested in that Fingers bobble. I think I have the rest of those, or at least a version of them. Really, do I need BOTH versions of one of these things? Are they really going to be worth all that much? I doubt it. Sounds like all the baseball card hype in the late 80s/early 90s that just about killed the collection craze (but I bought into it because I was a dumb teenager. So many 1989 Donruss cards in my closet . . . .) let me know what you're asking for the Fingers.
  8. I wasn't impressed with the call at all. I understand that it was implied, but Buck should have gave credit to his dad before saying it, something like, "Just like my father said, 'We'll see you tomorrow night!'" Without giving the credit, it sounded quite forced to me and, I thought, in bad taste. He couldn't come up with his own phrase?
  9. the entire post-season, as a whole, has been excellent. No clunker games or series, really (maybe the Texas clincher to send them to the WS?) and they've all been good, hard-played series. Oh, and no Red Sox.
  10. Nelson Cruz suddenly turned into Corey Hart there going back on that ball. Disgusting. And Joe Buck sure had a tinge of happy St. Louis fan in his voice on that play. Ugh.
  11. by whom? The Rangers could easily be up 15-5 what with all the STL errors and wasted opportunities. And the Cards are only in this game because of that.
  12. I hope that the Rangers hold on to win this thing tonight. But, at the same time, it makes me sad because that means no more baseball for 4+ months. Yeah, yeah, I know they're broadcasting Taiwan Series games, Caribbean Series games, etc. this off-season, plus there's all the awards and hot stove action. But it's not the same.
  13. yeah, I haven't warmed up to my wife, either. I've only been with her for 11 years but, you know, she won't be around forever so I might as well not get very comfortable having her around. http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/eyes.gif I honestly don't know why you even follow this team.
  14. it seems that now-a-days the plague of the 1970s has been vanquished. Why isn't "ring around the collar" that big of a deal anymore?
  15. I saw that too, and thought it was interesting since it came from the guy who almost got into a fight with an umpire over a ball/strike call. I saw it many times from Molina throughout the NLCS. Just about every time he reached base he would do it, but the cameras were always trained on his face after the big hits and he would do it. I thought it was "crybaby" as well, but perhaps we don't know the background to it, just like the Cardinals "claim" they didn't understand the back story behind "untucking" or "beast mode." I'm sure it has something to do with toddlers of the Cardinal players crying in the clubhouse when they lost so Molina instituted "crybaby mode" to rally his teammates to keep the toddler crying after games to a minimum.
  16. We don't know this. Yes, it's possible and probable, but it could just as easily blow up in our faces. I'm pretty sure 99% of us at this time last year said something to the effect of, "Casey will be great at 3B this year, the numbers show it." We all know how that turned out.
  17. and this deserves a separate post, but I'm losing my voice even though I'm not sick. It's like nature is taunting me, saying, "You were going to fly up to Milwaukee and lose it anyways, so might as well kick you in the throat regardless." Thanks nature.
  18. one of my former students was in a go-cart accident on Sunday night. Broken jaw, paralysis, and in general pain. Yesterday morning, they pulled plug. This is a boy who was only in 7th grade. He wasn't the greatest student academically, but he always, always, always tried his very best in my music classroom. We really respected each other and he really looked up to me for leadership. He was one of the more popular and likeable students but he always knew to stay even-keeled. He was one of the small handful of boys that would be in chorus and drama as well as loving sports and other "guy" things. I'll miss him. Two other boys in the same mold were there when the accident happened. They're pretty shaken up. I'm not anticipating the funeral but I expect the three of us will have a good old cry about it. RIP Carl.
  19. yep, those are horrible contract numbers based on his production. But, what if Dunn is the 2012 version of the 2011 version of Lance Berkman?
  20. last week's episode with Troy and Abed's apartment was the first in three seasons that I thought was funny, clever and just generally entertaining. First time I've laughed at that show in forever. Usually, it's "heh, that's kind of funny" once or twice an episode and that's all--the rest of the time has me sitting there just staring at the screen, saying, "why am I watching this?"
  21. I want to thank you for starting THIS thread. Even though things didn't finish quite as well as we would have liked, I am proud to be a member of this site and a fan of the Milwaukee Brewers organization. I have good feeling for every player (yes, even Yuni) that will be remembered for the rest of my life. Others may not agree but this is MY opinion and it's not subject to debate with me. I will miss those players that may leave the team. I will eagerly anticipate pitchers and catchers reporting in a few short months. And I will gladly accept any new players that join the team into our fraternity of Brewers. Go You Milwaukee Brewers! Go now forth from the autumn into winter hibernation and, thus, return in the spring; refreshed, renewed, and ready for 2012.
  22. When we play the Rangers next week, I sure hope we work around Nelson Cruz a bit.
  23. better than those Frank TV commercials that were jammed down our throats a few years ago. On topic, it bugs me that they are promoting The Big Bang Theory coming to TBS beginning on Tuesday, where it has been playing almost 4-6 times daily for the last couple of weeks anyways.
  24. I still don't think Greinke has been bad tonight all. The defense has completely left the team down. Completely.
