  1. don't you worry, don't you fear, Bernie Brewer's sliding here.
  2. boy, I'm still not sure I would have bunted with Hart. I think I would have taken my chance trying to steal with Morgan and see if one of our hottest (small sample size noted, thank you) hitters at the moment. I'm sure the Cardinals fans liked the sacrifice bunt, though, since that's the "right" way to play the game to win.
  3. K-Rod pitching like he did in PHX 2 weeks ago. Ugly. Can't get his breaking ball to do anything.
  4. well, that sucked. Suddenly, the 2006 Brewers showed up. Bases loaded nobody out and don't score. Hard to do. (although you see it more than you think, I suppose.)
  5. well, here comes the chance for the Cardinals to show their class. If Braun and Prince escape from getting drilled, they've got it. If not, they don't. Simple as that. There was no way Saito was trying to hit Pujols there, so we'll see how classy the Cards stay in a tight hotly-contested ballgame. I'm nervous just thinking about what may happen this inning.
  6. I'm sure somebody already said it, but kinda stinks that Prince threw home and instead of taking out #2 there. Marcum could've been out of the inning with a 3-2 lead. Lot of game left, though.
  7. hey, guys, I don't know if anybody has noticed this yet, so keep it hush-hush. Garcia is having trouble locating his pitches and keeping them up in the zone tonight because they finally got the mound rubber hydraulics working again. Hopefully, TLR won't notice until the 8th inning or so and we can take advantage!
  8. Braun and Fielder were on MLB network this afternoon being interviewed for "Intentional Talk." GREAT interview, but the best part was Plush, standing in the background and working "security" for the two interviewees. Totally awesome.
  9. I concur 100% with what warning track power has posted. When I go to Diamondbacks games, it is like first pitch at Miller Park, not a ton of people inside the park. But in Milwaukee, there's a reason the fans aren't in the stands at first pitch--they're still tailgating. In Phoenix, there is no reason--no tailgating, the bar scene is valid but the 4-5 bars within walking distance of the park are far from packed. People just don't care to arrive on time because then they can't make an "entrance" and be seen by other people. When the Dbacks sucked, it was difficult seeing anybody at the games, period, except for the visiting fans (which dominated the crowd) and few die-hard Dback fans who've been there since the beginning. I'm not really going to say anything else because warning track pretty much said everything that I would say anyways.
  10. I know of at least 5 off the top of my head . . .
  11. especially if we are still playing good baseball when he's ready to come back.
  12. too early? absolutely. It makes us look conceited. It makes us look egotistical. It makes us look like St. Louis fans. please stop. At least wait until September 1st. Nobody clinches anything in August so what's the point?
  13. I swear I read somewhere or heard on MLB Radio that Melvin was quoted as saying the Mets called him and the deal went down pretty much how you described it. So, I guess we do know who called who.
  14. I know you're just being facetious, but there is no way this could happen or a pitcher would agree to it. What if he missed and the ball went into the stands and hit a kid or something? That would be a worse PR nightmare than if they did hit LaRussa.
  15. nothing really to add to this thread but it was fun to look back at our initial reactions to the acquisition and comparing them to how we feel about the guy 5 months later.
  16. pedbadger, that's too funny. I really did LOL when I read that. I would guess the Brewers might keep Counsell until at least his bobblehead day in 2 weeks. That sucks. At least his glove and his legs still work pretty well.
  17. come on, please. School doesn't start 'til next week. Let me enjoy my last 10 days without dating stuff.
  18. a few things I noticed in tonight's game: 1. All that sweat by Carpenter seemed unnatural. I can't replay the game anymore but is it possible that he "soaked" his jersey and hat before taking the mound for the 5th inning due to the warmth in the park in hopes that it would help him cool off? I just don't remember it being so sweaty in the 1st-4th innings and then WHAMMO he was soaked. 2. Yuni appealing to first base is not the first time he did that. I saw on either Saturday or Sunday (don't remember which) on an even closer call. My guess is he was trying to tell the home plate ump something along the lines of, "hey, I didn't swing, nuh uh, you better check down there ump" except in Spanish. 3. I was quite surprised that LaRussa stayed in the dugout and was quite mellow on a) the double play ball to end the 6th inning, and b) the check swing dribbler by Pujols in the 7th (or was it the 8th?). I thought for sure he'd come on out and talk about it with the umps. 4. With Estrada and Dillard getting so little work, are they getting throwing in before the game (simulated games perhaps?) to at least remain a little bit sharp? I know they throw every day but is it in game-type situations? 5. Don't worry topper, I thought the same thing regarding only 5 more wins to free burgers.
  19. a bit off topic, but it still is strange seeing our league leaders in homers on August 1st is only at 31 and 28 homers. I guess the steroid era had me "fooled" to think they were normal.
  20. I may be wrong about this, but I would think that in years in which the MVP winner comes from a non-contender it is because the contending teams either didn't have any truly dominating players--just a bunch of players that had above average seasons and the pitching is the real reason they are contenders (see SF Giants last year as an example) OR a player on a non-contender was just so much better than everybody else, even though the rest of his team was pretty bad. Examples of each of those might be when Yount won his 2nd MVP in '89 and Andre Dawson in '87. When Yount won, most baseball people thought that, yeah, he had a very good season. But there were a bunch of guys that only had "very good seasons" and, thus, split up the vote and, alas, Yount surprised everyone (including this precocious teenager that couldn't believe he was the winner). When Dawson won, he was just so dominating for the Cubs that it was almost unfair.
  21. I don't think anybody will argue me on this (well, maybe not, this is BF.net, the home of arguing for argument sake, it seems) but I'm really looking forward to that series with the Phillies. It should be a real good gauge of how we may be able to hold out against them in the playoffs if we have to face them. I felt the same way when we played the Red Sox and the Yankees. I'm hoping for better results this time, of course. And I know that literally anything can happen in the post-season. If the Brewers keep playing their home games the same as they have all year and can just play near .500 on the road, they're in the playoffs. (boy, that's an obvious Bill Schroederian comment if I ever saw one.)
  22. that's good to know brwrsfan. That's pretty much the answer I was hoping to get from you.
  23. I've been optimistic and that hasn't worked. I've been pessimistic and that hasn't worked either. At least when I've been pessimistic they proved me wrong and had winning months, so I might as well stick to that strategy. Cardinals (2-1) @Astros (3-0) @Cards (0-3) Pirates (2-1) Dodgers (1-3) @Mets (1-2) @Pirates (1-3) Cubs (2-1) Cards (1-2) For a total of: 13-16 for the month of August.
  24. yeah, see I would be all over this event, but (a) I can't swim so jumping into ponds and swimming would be out, and (b) I have a heart condition so getting zapped by 10,000 volts might not be such a good idea. I just wondered if I would ever do something like this, would I still be received as a "finisher" by the other racers or as some "party-pooper" or "loser" who wussed out on stuff. My money is on the latter, but what do I know. Maybe I would need to make a t-shirt that states my (a) and (b) points so people would be more understanding.
