  1. with regards to Green, you gotta wonder if it's just personal preference of Melvin, Roenicke, Mark A. or a combination of those three that they don't seem to have much faith in young guys and would rather go with veterans. I look at the Indians and they have a rookie starter at 3B and a rookie starter at 2B that they JUST TRADED THEIR VETERAN 2B so he could be the starter. It kind of boggles my mind that there are other teams who are contending and also have the vision to give the young guys a chance and see what they can do. As for the topic of this thread, sure, I'm guessing most of us have a little bit of disappointment in our souls of how the deadline played out, no matter what they say on a message board. My thought is that if Weeks doesn't get hurt, Melvin doesn't go after both Lopez and Hairston. Maybe one of them, but not both. The injury kind of forced his hand to focus on guys that can play 2B instead of just SS/3B. If Weeks doesn't get hurt, my guess is the Brewers may have made more of a push for a SS/3B (not saying he would have acquired one, however.) I still think the Brewers may be able to pick up a Jason Bartlett or Clint Barmes type guy before the August 31st deadline. I'm not saying that they definitely will, of course, but we'll see.
  2. this is pretty much spot-on what I told my wife yesterday. The guy has been hurt and when he has played he's been pretty terrible. Now that he's "healthy" he'll magically be much better? With him joining the Cardinals and being in a pennant race, he probably will start playing more like the Furcal of old instead of continuing to hit .212 and playing average to sub-par defense (for him.)
  3. thank you . . . I was swearing the same thing to the TV and my wife gives me this look and tells me, "okay, relax!" I understand that the pitcher spot is up next but come on, he's already in scoring position if he just stays there.
  4. It looks worse than ever tonight. Looks zoomed in, stretched out and of course, grainy. the bad part is, later tonight I'll watch Quick Pitch on MLB Network and they'll show it in crystal clear HD. And not the Astros feed, either, but the Brewers version.
  5. good for the Indians! I'm kind of surprised that they dealt Pomeranz (reportedly) but, this is kind of like us picking up Sabathia so what they hey, right? At least it wasn't the Yankees. . . . .
  6. ugh, and we all know how well THAT turned out. Really, I'm not all that thrilled with the acquisition but it's a step upward from what we had.
  7. In reverence to his father, I'm going with SPECS. If his dad rocked those awesome shades, then his kid has to be just as cool. http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/jerry_hairston_autograph.jpg
  8. I'm confused. The Brewers don't have an 8-0 lead after the first inning. (forgot the blue font.)
  9. which, in years past, would mean getting swept by scores of 4-1, 5-0, and 7-0. Anyways, I'm kind of surprised by putting Lopez in that 5-spot, but who else are you going to put there? McGehee has been doing "better" since getting out of the pressure of the 5-hole. Betancourt? I don't think so. Kottaras? Don't make me laugh. And if you move somebody from the 1-3 spots down there, then you, obviously, have to move someone else up. I'm hoping for a nice comfortable easy (i.e. 4 run-margin or larger) victory tonight that I can just enjoy for being a win rather than having to chew my nails down to Franklin Stubbs worrying about it.
  10. going up Glacier Bay or whatever was pretty interesting, temperature-wise. We went up on deck and it started just fine--in the 50s or so, but as we got glaciers (3 miles away) you could feel the air temperature dropping with every 1/4 mile you cruised. I think it was a balmy 38 in July when we were right by the glaciers. But it certainly didn't feel it. When we were on deck, the ship just "parked itself in the middle of the bay right by the glacier and turned it's engines on to "spin" the boat about 10 times or so. It was neat to see everything in a panaroma from your spot, but it really sucked when one of the glacier did a major calving when we were 180-degrees from it. You could hear it, all right--boy, could you hear it; sounded like thunder crashed right next to me--and the splash was enormous. We were able to see some smaller calvings and got photos but the first one was major. Like a whole huge chunk. I still have a conspiracy theory that the ship company "did something" to make sure it would do that when we were right there.
  11. just 'cause I'm curious . . . I'm not sure if it happens (probably not, but you never know) but what happens if somebody comes up to an obstacle, and basically says, "Screw this" and just runs around it? I would assume that they have course personnel that would "tag" you on a sheet of paper and call in to HQ or something and disqualify you?
  12. when we went up there 2 summers ago, we did a zip line in Ketchican. Lots of fun. We also did a glacier tour but I don't remember which one/where it was. There are tons of glaciers, of course, so I'm sure there are tons of excursions.
  13. any possibility that Rickie's injury could be Achilles-related? That would be terrible if so. (not that an ankle injury of any kind is all nice and fine.)
  14. I still say the best part of the whole play was the hitter (Scott Proctor, the final ATL reliever) fell on his face not more than 10 feet from home plate after making contact with the ball. He still made it to first, then proceeded to continue out into right field in a (futile) attempt to avoid getting jumped by his teammates.
  15. except for your link, I haven't seen this reported as a completed trade anywhere else.
  16. the thing that scares me about this trade is that Dave Duncan will completely turn Edwin Jackson around and he'll be completely dominating for a couple of months.
  17. Thornton was all-star caliber for a number of years but has been pretty terrible this season. I'm not sure I would want him. Ramirez I'd take in a heartbeat. Beckham, too, although I doubt CHW would really trade him.
  18. yeah, the Pirates (and that little girl) definitely got hosed on that call. Absolutely terrible. For the Braves, that is a pretty crappy way to win a game. (for the Brewers, I'll take it 'cause we need a break every now and then)
  19. I forgot about the water activities. That would be my only hangup as I can not swim. I sink like a stone.
  20. I buy from stubhub to see DBacks games in PHX and I sell some of my Miller Park season ticket pack on stubhub as well. Completely safe and very easy to use. Highly recommended!
  21. I read about that in a magazine about a month ago. It looks like loads of fun, despite the "obstacles."
  22. it was just last year, I believe.
  23. whoever insinuated that Morgan could be sitting for 5+ games by MLB . . . for this???????
  24. not surprised at all. Never heard her music or anything so no big loss to me. Don't mean to sound crass but I only knew her from tabloid garbage.
  25. the thing about Seattle is they were an absolutely terrible offensive club last year and they are on pace to be even worse this year.
