  1. Dwight using the microwave, the bicycle, the books, and whatever else he used was hilarious. Oh, and Bryan Gumball.
  2. Ron Swanson and his giggling antics during this week's episode were golden. As was Andy.
  3. hmm, I always liked the numerals and letters font that the Brewers use on their new uniforms. It was different from everybody else's. Of course, I'd go back to the days of no names on the jerseys, if I could.
  4. I feel that Parra is Jorge de la Rosa ver. 2.0 right now. If we give him up, he could thrive under new tutelage and getting older/more experienced. I don't know if trading him is the right or wrong thing to do, though.
  5. ah, okay. No wonder I was confused. I thought it was a "three-strikes-and-your-out" policy, but apparently it's a "three-strikes-and-a-foul-ball-and-your-out" policy. Anyway, the minor leaguer in question by me was Andrew Lambo in the Dodgers organization, for the record.
  6. Ha! I remember doing that with my teammates from the bench in high school as well. Of course, our coach sent in the signs, too. And we tried to tell him how we would always figure out the other team's signs and that they were surely doing the same to him, so why bother? Something about a 40+ year old guy wanting to call pitches because he doesn't trust a 17-year old behind the plate to do it and he wants to feel all important. Seriously, so many high school baseball coaches are terrible because they don't know how to teach baseball fundamentals and skills. They get by with their "coaching" and "managing" of games but the players never develop because they never learn anything. My high school coach was like that. I learned more in one month with my college baseball team than I did in 4 years on the high school varsity.
  7. yes, I think it's funny that they got caught but how is it any different, really, from a runner on 2nd relaying signs or pitch location to a batter? It happens all the time, even when the battery changes the signs. I wouldn't be surprised if teams are successfully stealing signs at least once or twice a game. Maybe not blatantly with binoculars, but. barrelman2010, I know you are new here and just want to give you a heads up. When starting a thread, please do more than just posting a link and stating "discuss." Why don't you give us your opinion of the matter first? Or elaborate on the topic in your own words. I'm not scolding here, just molding you into a better poster. Thanks!
  8. okay, I knew it was something like that. I was going completely on memory with that one.
  9. yes, they won that final Saturday of the season against the Padres to finish at 82-80, snapping the winless-season streak. Tony Gwynn Jr. hit the RBI triple off Trevor Hoffman to tie it. edit1: ah, crud, that was on Sunday, wasn't it? Darn I'm wrong. Mis remembering things again. edit2: no, I'm right. That game did happen on Saturday FOX baseball. But, obviously, it wasn't the game that put them at 82-80.
  10. I agree Baldkin. this is exactly what my wife and I discussed last night. They surely could have put that episode sooner into this season's schedule, couldn't they have? Instead, they have been rising and rising and rising with the plot up to the climax (we hope) of the finale and then they bring out this episode that killed all that momentum. And, yeah, the whole "light" thing in the water? BOOOOOO writers! (unless you explain it in the final 2 episodes). All I can think of is that the light was a "prison" or something for the evil (smokey) of the world and "mom" (allison janney) was the warden and told Jacob not to enter so he wouldn't let the evil out. But when he put his brother in, the evil (smokey) escaped and shape shifted into his brother. With Jacob realizing that his brother was already dead, he knew that the MiB that he sees and converses with later on is not his brother and so he vows to make sure he can't leave the island. Now, WHY they can't leave the island???? I wish they'd explain that one. I actually wish there was another episode/hour following last night's to see how Jacob came to realize all this and how/when/why he made the "list" of candidates, built the lighthouse/mirror thing, the statue with 4 toes, etc. (if he even did any of that stuff.) Maybe they'll explain all that in the novels that they are planning.
  11. nice to see us get out of the sixth without a big inning. And I wasn't too far off with my Glaus prediction.
  12. I've gotta find it when I get home but I read in last weeks Sports Weekly newspaper that a minor-leaguer was suspended for drug use of some type but only got a 50-game suspension, even though it was his 2nd offense. Why did he only get 50-games while Jeffress got 100? I thought the penalties were 50-games for first time, 100 games for second, and lifetime for a third (in the minors). Was it because there is a difference in the drugs (Jeffress was a drug of abuse, while the other guy was not--although I don't remember if the blurb said or not)? Again, I'll check on who it was when I get home tonight since the paper is in my reading box.
  13. sure hope Yo is okay. Cory P. say he read his lips, saying, "I'm fine." But who really knows? Will Glaus homer to lead off the 6th inning again?
  14. a JV-type lineup, then, invader? Doesn't that usually net us a 12-2 victory? (seemed to in years past, at least)
  15. I'm confused. On the link I only saw 10 events listed. Is the bigger list somewhere or are you still getting ideas and you're only at 10 so far? anyway, I would add (1) sitting in the student section at a Duke-UNC hoops game at Cameron Indoor. (2) RF bleacher seats at Yankee Stadium (3) to be different, maybe the lumberjack championships (are they still in Heyward?)
  16. that's the thing. Knowing that this is the final season, I'm just going to enjoy these final episodes rather than scrutinize them and look for stuff that jumps the shark. Did it jump? Of course it did. And I don't really care. It's fun television and that's what television is supposed to be--fun and entertaining. It entertained me and that's all that matters. Jack was the only one that didn't know about Logan's involvement so the look on his face was priceless to me. I don't watch the previews (ever) as I like being surprised with what's going to happen. But I like that they are taking chances about doing some crazy stuff, knowing that this is all they have left.
  17. this is kind of like Mike Schmidt to me. Trying to hold on for one more year and barely making it to Memorial Day. He should have retired at the end of last season when he was carried off the field on the shoulders of teammates and to the raucous cheers of the home crowd.
  18. I don't know about anybody else, but I loved tonight's episode. It had action, suspense, intrigue, and a priceless look on Jack's face when he found out about Logan. It's going to be a wild final 3 hours!
  19. at least it's not like the Yankee guy (John Sterling) who has a different catch phrase home run call for every guy on the team. "An A-Bomb . . . from A-Rod" "Robby Cano . . . don't ya' know?" "Curtis! . . . something sort of Grandish!" (Granderson) "Curtis! . . The Grandy Man Can!" (Granderson again) "Mark sends a Tex message!" (Teixeira) and of course, the "IT IS HIGH . . . IT IS FAR . . . IT IS . . . . GONE!" (which isn't all that bad since we're used to something similar to Uecker. It's just that he yells it so much and you hear it so much from ESPN and MLB radio that I'm just sick of it.) Everytime I hear these things, I roll my eyes and groan.
  20. I'm pretty sure this is the reason he does it. On that video linked here from the Ernie Harwell thread, one of the broadcasters (can't check right now--I'm at work) made comment about how Harwell would always tell the audience about a no-hitter multiple times during the broadcast as people would be constantly tuning in and out of the game and would want to know this information. We all know that Brian Anderson loved Ernie Harwell and felt extremely blessed to have met him and learned from him. Thus, Anderson likely does the no-hitter talk for the same reason (even if television and radio broadcasts are two entirely different entities.) This is my theory. Bash it all you want but it makes sense to me. (sorry, don't mean for that to be combative.)
  21. It'd be pretty funny if Braden, when he takes the mound in New York, trots out of the dugout and goes and stomps on third base a couple of times like it's a trampoline. A-Rod probably wouldn't care much at all, but the Bronx crowd would be all over it. It'd be funny to see. Won't happen, but still.
  22. I'm glad the Brewers won the game today and completed the sweep and I feel horrible that we weren't there in person to watch the games. But I'm glad that now I can take a short nap rather than be behind the wheel back home for 3+ hours.
  23. yeah, it'll be interesting to hear/read the quotes from A-Rod now. If he blows it off to whatever excuse he gives, he definitely will be getting plunked in July. I had to switch off the Brewer game to see the ending but I saw the final 2 outs. What's the significance with the Braden Section 209 that the A's feed kept showing? Anybody know?
  24. Maybe not, we could see exactly where it landed. It should be relatively easy to measure. In my 10 plus years of going to games at Bank One/Chase, I have NEVER seen a ball hit onto the concourse/walkway above the left field bleachers like that. They have little "distance markers" on the walkway and in that area of Weeks' HR the distance marker says 470' or something like that. I know this for fact as I've marveled at it many times when walking the concourse, saying, "Nobody's gonna hit one up here during a game . . . " I've seen them hit to the walkway in centerfield but not over the LF bleachers. Amazing. edit: and to answer somebody else's question: Yes, all 3 D-Backs outfielders made a nice diving catch to rob Brewers of hits. Gallardo, Villanueva, and the one in the 9th inning.
