  1. Barenaked Ladies How about an imaginary band name? Sucky Band
  2. That's a pretty cool story with a sad ending. You know, it wouldn't hurt to write to Robin again and explain your original letter to him and the letter he sent back to you and what happened to said letter. Maybe he'd write you an updated version.
  3. yeah, you know, I might be wrong about Wood now that you mention it. But there was somebody else besides Prior in the last 10 years or so that I remember had the "perfect mechanics" label put on him and then, wham! he's out with Tommy John and never the same. Maybe it was Mulder?
  4. yeah, I thought the Nationals did everything right. They limited his innings, they already had him on the DL once to make sure he didn't push things, they took him out immediately this time as well. What can you do? It sure stinks, though. I know that I am no longer believing the scouts, prognosticators, and other know-it-alls when they say, "this guy has perfect mechanics and will probably stay injury-free because of it." Mark Prior? BUZZZZ! Kerry Wood? BUZZZZ! Stephen Strasburg? BUZZZZ! No more of me listening to those "experts."
  5. Oswalt actually had to make a put out in left, too. Crowd loved it. edit: Oh, and I loved the skydiver that missed his mark in Texas last night and put himself on the flag pole. Great stuff.
  6. just got pulled at 111 pitches thru 6.2 IP. Walked a guy and that was it. In a 3-0 game, against a tough team, with a high pitch count and a history of injuries. . . . it was the right call. Regardless of what happens from here on out.
  7. I read this a lot on this board it seems. I'd be willing to bet that two members of this site could go back in time and be flies on the wall throughout the entire 09-10 off-season, that you'd find out that he did try exploring a trade for him with Seattle. Sometimes, things just don't work out for whatever reason. Why do we all assume that because something didn't happen (usually after the fact) that Melvin didn't even try to do it? edit: shoot, forgot to post what I originally came to post. Todd Helton just tied Willie Mays for 36th all-time in doubles.
  8. I want: NL East--Braves NL Central--Reds NL West--Padres NL Wild Card--Giants AL East--Rays AL Central--Twins AL West--Rangers AL Wild Card--White Sox Wow, what an exciting playoffs those would be! And what a television ratings nightmare. I could care less about the ratings as all playoff baseball is good baseball, to me.
  9. Finally watched 2012 this weekend. I enjoyed it for what it was--a popcorn flick with lots of explosions, etc. Kind of bugged me with the ending, that everything would be just hunky-dorey. Plus, I take it that the giant sun eruptions that started the whole catastrophe just stopped as suddenly as they started? I found it funny that a spot in Western Wisconsin was selected as the new South Pole, though. I would have thought someplace hot, like Arizona or Death Valley would have been funnier--Wisconsin's always cold anyway.
  10. I could certainly go with a stance on Braun finally getting his wrist/arm back to full health and that is part of the reason why he's done better lately. I'm sure the injury is part of the issue with his numbers.
  11. BA said during the broadcast that earlier reports out of Washington are that he's done for the season and will be visiting Dr. Andrews soon. I haven't seen anything to confirm this yet, however.
  12. I did read that elsewhere, so it probably is a key factor in the decision.
  13. yeah, my wife just came and told me the breaking news. I'm not too surprised, either. If you know you're retiring at the end of the year and you're watching a team that is disappointing in so many ways, why would you stay until the end? See ya, Lou! Have fun fishing or whatever.
  14. Contractual Obligation Album -- Monty Python
  15. but what is it? Infield dirt? Sod from the field? A piece of wood? I can't tell.
  16. I heard the Rockies were getting rid of Brad Hawpe. He hasn't played well this year but that still boggles my mind a bit since he was such a key member of their WS team a few years ago.
  17. Pardon me since my eyes may have been deceiving me, but hasn't Macha used Axford in the 8th inning for 4+ out saves (or at least attempts) several times over the last month or so?
  18. it'd be great if MLB Network put Costas and Uecker together for a post-season game/series, but they don't broadcast those. Those two are golden when working together. Broadcasting and comedy gold.
  19. on that Blue Jay game, if my memory serves me right, part of that 6 run rally by the Jays was a grand slam off the bat of none other than Joe Inglett. Going strictly on memory, I'm about 99% sure it was him
  20. unfortunately, it smells of Mark Mulder, where he'd try to come back for several years, never quite getting completely healthy or given another good chance and will have to retire about 5 years past the date he should have retired. Get well, regardless, Ben.
  21. on July 4th last year, Anchorage did their fireworks around 12:30 am as that was the "darkest" it was going to get. It was dusk for you and me, with plenty of orange sky to the west.
  22. yeah, quite the bruhah-hah. I did not like the fact that it escalated right in front of the fans, some players being pushed almost into some fan's laps.
  23. harumph! Phillips makes comments and the Cardinals get up big early on the Reds. Whoops?
  24. my statement of 37 was pure guess, so I wasn't that far off. Bravo, self!
  25. are you single? If you were married, a good portion of your ideas would be off the books right away. Seriously, the last birthday I had that was remotely memorable was the 21st and even that was tame since I had been drinking my first 2 years of college prior to that anyway. Birthdays are overrated. Heck, there are many times (I'm not exaggerating) when somebody asks me how old I am and I literally have to think about the answer. And sometimes I'm still unsure if I give the correct age. Drives my wife crazy.
