  1. oh, yeah I completely agree with you and the original poster. I'm just glad he's giving it a little bit of thought rather than doing the equivalent of picking guys out of a hat and hoping it works out.
  2. I understand the contempt toward his comments about the small samples vs. hitters. However, it is extremely rare that players rack up several hundreds of at-bats against a single pitcher, due to facing each other so infrequently and the dependence on both pitcher and batter having careers that last 16+ years. So Macha used some stats that showed a small sample. At least he's not just guessing in the dugout--he's using SOME sort of data analysis (even though it doesn't show much, it does show a tiny bit.)
  3. could this also begin the wheels spinning for the show to end as well? I'd guess that it's gotta be around a 50-50 shot at best and a 20-80 shot at worst. Pam and Jim married with a kid? Check off the Office bucket list Michael leaves? Check also Dwight and Angela having a baby? seems likely this season This means the major characters have had their "destiny" on the show completed. Just have to finish off some minor story lines on the other minor characters and that's it. I'll guess that they'll announce Carell is leaving the show and that The Office is done within a month of each other.
  4. the only problem with that lineup that I have is that you're assuming that every one of those guys will produce in the majors. Just because they hit in the minors is no guarantee that they'll do anything in the majors. My guess is a team with that lineup in 2012 will finish with <70 wins.
  5. what's up with that? I thought the game time change was to make sure the game would NOT be blacked out. I'm guessing Directv didn't get the message that the FOX window is in prime-time today instead of it's usual block of time.
  6. it was this afternoon. I got my 2nd BOC ever! Nice!
  7. this has been a great game to watch so far regardless if I jinxed the perfecto by posting this as the pitch was delivered
  8. ugh, I actually wanted to get some sleep tonight. Well, enough of the nonsense! Where's the No-Doze?
  9. I thought of this while watching it live and then again when watching the posted video: what's up with the FIFA volunteers (I'm guessing that they are volunteers?) getting into the dog pile to celebrate? And giving high fives after the match was over? Aren't they, as volunteers of the tourney and representatives of FIFA, supposed to be unbiased observers that do their job on the field but can then celebrate off the pitch? Kind of like MLB press boxes where no cheering is allowed?
  10. "He died the following Thursday and played 1B and DH in games after that." I don't think you meant to say it this way, but the way it reads it made me chuckle a bit, even though Munson was a heck of a guy.
  11. I didn't know you were appointed to be the guru on the mountaintop, giving us the answers http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Since it's on ESPN (or used to be, at least), it's a sport, so I'll go with: If I take my year's salary and take it to a casino and put it on one hand of blackjack, will I win the next hand dealt by the dealer? (same question could apply for hold-'em poker, I suppose.) How about, would the Packers beat the Patriots in the Super Bowl had they defeated the Giants in OT? Or, would Kansas City still have won the World Series if Dekinger got the call correct at first base?
  12. no HD? Directv 669-1 is a blank and the guide says no game in HD until Tuesday. Hmmmm, might have to watch Rockies feed and listen to Provus.
  13. what the heck, why not? It worked for Fielder today! Seriously, Kottaras has been sitting (a) to get LuCroy some work and see if he can play multiple days in the big leagues, (b) to get some rest as he has been showing signs of fatigue after not being used like this in quite a while (if ever), and © his numbers have been showing the effects of his increase in playing time. I really hope that the duo of LuCroy and Kottaras can play out the string for the season with some success. And, I wasn't sure if this was the best choice for a thread seeing as only Escobar and, to an extent, Gomez/Edmonds have been struggling. I knew I'd be in trouble deciding whom to start the thread about if I had picked a pitcher.
  14. I understand that you put that your memory is bad on some of these, but this is simply not true. And I'm not singling you out, per say, as I see this all over various online forums. Manning (& Rick Waits) were traded to Milwaukee for Gorman in 1983, not 1987 during Molitor's streak. I do apologize if you were emphasizing the "just traded" part in meaning "we ONLY go Rick Manning for our beloved Gorman Thomas! What a rip-off! Gorman is worth WAY more than that!"
  15. yeah, but what do you do if you're on vacation in the middle of Wyoming and you get a ticket? I can't just take a day off of work to go out to Cheyenne to fight a traffic ticket. This actually happened to me. Nothing happened with my insurance.
  16. I saw Jeff Cirillo make his MLB pitching debut. And strike Craig Counsell out. Oh, and all that stuff my wife said, too.
  17. better than "anywhere in the upper deck/sauna level on a warm day". At least you can have a breeze. At least this has been my limited experience with the Terrace level in the summer.
  18. I just looked at my Brewer wall calendar and it bugs me that they can't do enough research to get the June trivia question right. "Rollie Fingers and Pete Vuckovich of the Brewers won the American League Cy Young Award in 1982 and 1983. How many other American League teams have pulled off this back-to-back feat with two different pitchers?" C'mon, calendar people! Some guy had to find 11 trivia questions for the calendar and he couldn't even get the research done correctly! Shoddy research on a mass-produced product bugs me.
  19. I know you used the blue font, but as I was watching with awe, and after I picked my jaw up off the floor, I suddenly remember that I've seen this game before. That hook reminded me SOOOOO much of Kerry Wood's in his 20-k game in '98. Hopefully, Strasberg can stay healthy with that big of a breaking pitch. I'd hate to see two amazing talents in so short of a time have to be washouts so quick. (yes, one could argue that Wood came back, but he's never been the same)
  20. knowing that there hadn't been a post in here for quite a while, I half-expected somebody to be posting "it's all over--hello winter."
  21. what if they went to a "challenge" system with reviews but each team were given one challenge PER WEEK? Yeah, it might be a bit of paperwork nightmare keeping track of who has their challenge and who doesn't, but think about it, if you've got a reviewable play occurring during a game on Monday, as the manager you have have to decide if it's big enough of a situation to blow your challenge or save it for a possible "bigger" game later in the week. Otherwise, I'm all for review on close plays at the bag/plate, trap/catch in the outfield and fair/foul calls on balls hit down the lines. But, yeah, use a booth review like the Big Ten does to keep the game moving. Balls/strikes, however, should never be reviewable.
  22. That's alright. Brian Anderson did it during the telecast last night. I did a double take and said, "You mean 'Armando', Brian! If 'Andres' were doing it, that would be a sight I've GOT to see."
  23. I think we're all missing something in the "big picture" of all this: http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n116/pitchleague/2536.jpg Look at this mustache! How you can not like a guy that goes around on a baseball field with this! And he owns up to his mistakes! BRAVO!!!!! (to be honest, I think this photo is old, as his 'stache last night was more rocking than this.)
