  1. it wasn't in person (unless you count watching it on TV in person), but Trevor Hoffman just intentionally walked somebody. I gotta think that over the years that hasn't happened too often. (just watch, somebody will now post that he's done it 37 times in his career or something.)
  2. since I just saw a Miller Lite commercial, what bars have hot female bartenders in the middle of the day like they show on those commercials? I've never seen one. Female bartenders? Yup, but not model capable bartenders. And does an actor have to have an alcohol serving license to be portraying a bartender on a commercial or doesn't it matter since it's probably fake beer in the commercial? wow, that's random.
  3. Not to pick on you pitchleague, but how often does a comeback like the Rockies had actually happen? I mean, they won 20 games in a row at the end of the season. That just does not happen more than once every few decades, I would guess.I kind of thought my final sentence summed up that I had no faith in that happening, as I think we all know how rare an occurrence that was. I guess I thought wrong.
  4. how do meteors rise? I thought they fall hard into the atmosphere or all the way down to the earth.
  5. and yet, the Rockies did something that amazing just 3 years ago. Believe me, I am pretty darn sure the Brewers are not going to come remotely close to anything except being able to finish .500 or better, but it COULD happen. I mean, nobody (not even the Rockies) thought it could happen in '07. They just happened to get uber hot and the other teams hit snag after snag after snag. I would agree with the 0.055 percent chance, though. It's not a bet I'd take to Vegas.
  6. hmm, that's an interesting comparison. Hamilton was one of my favorite players from those early 90s teams. Good enough to qualify as a good hitter brought up in casual conversation outside of Milwaukee but not good enough to be all-star caliber. I can see the speed comparison and batting eye. Not sure about the power in the majors, though. I could see equivalent numbers in doubles and triples. Yeah, I can agree with this. I don't believe the hype that he'll be a multi-all-star player but I don't think he'll be a disappointment like I feel Glenn Braggs was.
  7. this thread is for random MLB news. Please take the debate over Melvin and his ability/inability to pick up so-and-so to another or a new thread. This is at least twice in the past 24 hours that a thread starts to go way off topic.
  8. the thing about that call is that he gave up on the ball, assuming it was going to go foul. He just had to turn his head and watch the ball all the way to the ground and then make the call, but no, he just assumed it was going to go foul. I loved the ump's arrogance afterward, stating that he still believed the ball to be foul.
  9. Is this Doug Davis guy the creator of the Sharpie Magic Electro Pointer Teleportation Stick?
  10. Please stop with any and all condescending talk about beer and the like. Please do not force the closure of a really good thread.
  11. I just finished with my last afternoon of the summer spent sitting in the AZ sun, drinking beer (and an occasional water), spitting sunflower seeds, reading Baseball Weekly (I refuse to call it Sports Weekly), and listening to jazz. I'm having trouble holding back the tears.
  12. no offense, buy my wife is a stitcher and I believe that she is no where near being an old lady.
  13. I've said it before and I'll say it again: We're the latest incarnation of the Cleveland Indians from a few years ago. The same Indians squad that surprised people by improving, making the playoffs (ALCS actually), and motivating their entire fan base and the media to believe that they were a team on the rise. And then they were a losing team for 3 straight seasons, completely "under performing" every time. The windows on a lot of their stars was closing (Lee, Sabathia, among others) so they were traded. This sounds awfully familiar.
  14. you know, that's kind of a good point. You have to wonder a little bit about what Prince is thinking about. "Gee, even I can't be traded." Yeah, there's still 12 hours left til the deadline but . . . . I kind of flabbergasted, on topic, that the Yankees traded for these guys.
  15. they used that exact same picture in the print issue of SI this week, talking about trading for pitching at the deadline. No mention of Prince in the article but they mentioned Sabathia at least twice and I'm guessing that's why they used the picture. I have no idea why somebody used the same picture to represent Prince Fielder. I didn't read the online stuff, though, so I wonder if it was the same article as the print article.
  16. so, in a couple of hours, I will be taking my wife out for her first round of golf. We've been hitting the range for the past few weeks, with varying degrees of success for her. It should be interesting--we might be done for the day after 3 holes with the way she gets frustrated sometimes. Pray for our marriage http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  17. I'm sure there is a bit of truth to this, since he came from a rich family as the son of Major League Baseball superstar in the late 80s and into the 90s. If his name was Prince Jones and he came up from some poor family somewhere, he'd probably be a completely different person.
  18. I thought it was good. Anything Brewers on television is a good thing. The best part, for me and my wife, was the end of the Block Party segment. I apologize now if this was you and your family and I mean no bad intentions, but the family that was cheering "Go Brewers!" at the end of that segment made us laugh hysterically due to the one boy on his father's left side getting a bit carried away while doing the cheer.
  19. The way the kid was just running around, it seemed to me like his plan might have been to get tased/tackled/whatever so he could be "famous" like the kid that was tasered. Maybe he wanted to get hurt so he could sue. Who knows? Maybe if they'd stiffen the penalties it would stop. $10,000 non-negotiable fine and 2 weeks in jail would do the trick.
  20. that whole thing is a matter of interpretation. They did a whole thing on MLB radio the morning after, talking about it for what seemed like forever. The ump could have warned Mattingly but instead just enforced the rule. But others on the radio argued that there wasn't time for a warning. Others still argued that there was plenty of time. And even more others argued that the umps choked. And even more others argued that they followed the rulebook too much to the letter.
  21. funny how I saw the same article yesterday but it was Yuniesky Betancourt going to the Angels.
  22. Orange County, no. Band of Brothers, yes. Didn't even realize he in that final episode--didn't recognize him.
  23. man, I thought I was the only person watching this. WARNING WARNING WARNING THIS IS A SHOW THAT I REALLY LIKE SO IT IS DESTINED TO BE CANCELLED SOON!!! THIS IS NOT A TEST!!!! Sorry, just seems that every time I find a good show that I enjoy a lot that it gets cancelled in less than one season. But, yeah, it's funny. I thought the Hanks kid would be annoying (I honestly didn't know it was him or his relation to Tom in the print ads and promo commercials in May) but he's been splendid. Whitford has his character nailed. And the tunes on the show are great. And the humor always gets a chuckle from me.
  24. yeah, I think that the crop of rookies is pretty tight and the winner will likely be decided in August-September more so than the first 2/3 of the season. I like what Heyward has done but he's fallen from Thor-like powers of ungodliness, in my opinion. Same with Strasburg (although he's still pretty darn good). Leake probably won't win due to lack of publicity. Same with Stanton, who is not hitting the ball all that well, anyway. Buster could take it if he keeps hitting like he's been in July.
  25. Thank you for stating this. The way Gomez was already slowed up as he came to first base made me think something was up rather than dogging it. Oh, and I tend to gravitate toward the stance of Edmonds being merely adequate out there in the outfield. Pretty much what we expected--makes some plays, doesn't make others; nothing fancy, but not gold glove caliber; range has slipped from his better years, but he's no Adam Dunn out there. Heck, he's probably about as good as either you or I would be out in center field. Maybe a bit better.
