  1. Hawkins is starting to remind me of Jorge Julio from last year. He started off okay and then got shakier and shakier into May. This is the Hawkins of Chicago Cubdom pitching right now, not the Hawkins of Houston (although he still wasn't sparkling with them either). I agree, though, that the bullpen has been a major disappointment. I thought it was one of our strongest parts of the team. I hope that it still can be. Even if you take half of the blown saves so far and convert them, we're above .500 I believe. Streaky hitting I can live with because it's been that way for years with the Brewers. I mean, who was genuinely surprised that Ely, in his 2nd MLB game, would be throwing darts last night? We've seen that before, too. Is that because there is little to no video on him (and those kind of guys) that our hitters are just up there guessing? Are we that dependent on studying video? Sorry that the above paragraph is a bit off topic.
  2. The wife and I decided not to go to Phoenix this weekend due to some illness in our house. Okay, so it was MY illness, it still bugs me. Oh well. At least I'm saving money on hotel and tickets.
  3. SPOILER ALERT (text is hidden below) Did Lapidus die? I guess I missed that. Was he the body that you saw floating before Jack swam out the big hole in the sub?
  4. I forgot about Jimmy James! I can't believe she just stuffed him in the wall and nobody has noticed yet. That should be on some outtakes on the DVD: CTU employees finding the body a few weeks later after wondering what that God-awful stink coming from the interrogation rooms had been.
  5. my wife and I both laughed when they went to the standard ticking clock at the end of the episode, instead of the "death" countdown. I was kind of rooting for Jack to pull the trigger anyways so it didn't surprise me. (does that make me a bad person?)
  6. ah, that stinks. He seemed like a great gentleman and ambassador of the game. Never really got to listen to any full broadcasts by him but bits and pieces here and there. RIP
  7. I saw the highlights of the squeeze "attempt" but I didn't hear about any of this other stuff. Pretty amusing. Eric Byrnes
  8. they screwed it up: http://espn.go.com/espn/page2/index?id=5149845 I kind of thought that this was the case.
  9. @SD - 1-1 @LAD - 1-2 @ARI - 3-0 VS ATL - 2-1 VS PHI - 0-3 @ CIN - 2-0 @ PIT - 2-0 @ MIN - 1-2 VS HOU - 3-0 VS NYM - 1-2 @ FLA - 1-0 Tie Breaker: Braun HRs + Weeks RBIs + YoGa wins = My prediction: 17-11 Tie breaker: 6 + 9 + 4 = 19
  10. that was a heck of a nice play by Hairston there. Oh well, Brewers. See you tomorrow night.
  11. at least it's 11:30 for you guys. You can say, "heck with it, I'm going to bed." It's only 9:30 here--I've gotta keep watching this. Or Private Practice. Hmmmmmm . . . . . no, Brewers win that battle every time.
  12. hey, I'm going to be in Phoenix for the 3 games. They better not be that bad on this trip! It's my one opportunity to see them this year! I'm hoping ARZ goes in the tank, though, as better tickets will be available then. Their crowds this year have already been horrible.
  13. ugh, I'm getting home in a couple of hours. I will not be pleased if this is true. Not that it matters much anyway.
  14. I saw this too. No wonder Trevor blew up tonight. Suppan Anti-Mojo Juice was exchanged in the conversation.
  15. could any of this have to do with Peterson trying to change things with Trevor? New pitching coach sometimes has ideas that can "fix" a pitcher. Maybe he's been working with Hoffman to get movement on those fastballs but it's just not happening? I was listening to the 9th in the car on my home. I started to wonder if maybe he was tipping his pitches. But (after watching the DVR) it's pretty hard to tip your pitch when you're only throwing the same pitch over and over again. Frustrating is all this is. Why do we have closers that are good for one year and then garbage after that (Fingers, Ladd, Turnbow, DeJean, Wickman, others)?
  16. that's hilarious, because we've been looking for one, too. Our old one died about a month ago and we've been looking to replace it.
  17. as for the raspiness, I remember during the first weekend of spring training games he made mention of how he had "caught" a bug of some sort. During the 2nd weekend, he was still very raspy and he apologized and explained how he thought he'd be over it by now. Obviously he's still not over it. I have no idea if it's associated with his heart condition in any way. as for Davey Nelson, I'll agree with others that he is actually pretty good/decent in a color role on the radio. I heard some of his White Sox games from back in the day and he was okay by me. I think his problem, and others have touched on this as well, is his trouble with scripted material. You put him in a position when he can just talk and react to the action on the field and he's fine. You ask him a question that requires a long answer, and he stumbles. And if he has to read off the telestrator it's pretty gosh darn awful. Get well, Robert. I hope you return soon.
  18. "Gosh, we suck. We can never beat the Brewers in Milwaukee. Our team has lost for so many years now, I've lost count. And it's not looking much brighter in the future. I'd rather not even come to the ballpark. Our ballpark, PNC Park, is so beautiful that we kind of shame it. I wish we still played in Three Rivers. At least we had a winning tradition there." Oh, that's not what you had in mind, is it? http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif Back to the game, I'm kind of embarrassed by the Brewers. It's one thing to win big through 7 1/2 innings, but to pile on at the end is kind of like a High School game. I know the spirit of the game is to play all 9 innings but at some point I felt it was getting ridiculous. At least Fischer held Gomez at third on that single. I'm glad the Brewers didn't just sit down and swing at any and everything to get it over with but, jeez I kind of feel bad for the Pirates and their fans. I know that PNC was our own House of Horrors for quite some time up until a couple of years ago but this is getting kind of ridiculous to me. I'm sure others may chime in and flame my opinions (on the record via a post or off the record muttering to themselves about that crazy pitchleague guy) but tonight was fun to watch but also not much fun at the same time. It's almost like playing a video game when you go 162-0, hit .435 as a team with 656 home runs and win just about every game by the score of 83-2. After a very short while, it would get old to me. I'm going to enjoy the success, of course, but it's kind of unsatisfying when you whoop up on a team. I never enjoyed it when I played ball in High School and I still don't enjoy it now. Anyways, go Brewers! Win another one tomorrow!
  19. going back to the Zaun double, that was just a pretty pathetic swing. I know someone else touched on it earlier, but it looked like a pitcher swinging the bat that just happened to get the barrel on the ball. Just ugly. No wonder his numbers vs LHP stink year in and year out.
  20. that's very nice to hear some good honest "reviews" of it. Much better than the "OMG that show is SOOOOOO awesomez!!!11!!!" that I find online in many places. Thanks for, perhaps, saving me a purchase. Sounds like a good rental when it is released and then decide if I want it or not.
  21. since I've only seen the first episode at a hotel last month, has the series kept up it's promise to be good or is it a dud compared to Band of Brothers? I own that and watch it around June just about every year. Is The Pacific a good thing for my library as well?
  22. that's exactly the reason. I believe it's an MLB rule that unless it is a fully-enclosed stadium, you have to have a tarp, just in case. The thing I wonder is, how often does the MP grounds crew practice using it?
  23. MLB Tonight (MLB Network) had a stat line that it's the first 20-0 game since 1889. So who's right? MLB Network or MLB.com?
  24. augh, Ueck was in the middle of his story about Dick Groat's wig and the audio cut out again! and now it's back 1/2 an inning later. Jeez.
