  1. that's the thing about calling something a "greatest play ever." I think I have posted something along these lines before. The Willie Mays catch is awesome because it was only a famous catch because (a) it was the World Series, and (b) it was caught on film. I am pretty sure there were probably hundreds (thousands?) of awesome catches and what not back in the day that only a handful of people alive now can remember because the games back then were not filmed regularly. And those catches could be labeled as even "greater" than some of the catches of today because of the inferior gloves and equipment that they used way back when. A bit more on topic, the greatest catch I ever saw in person actually happened in BP when I was younger. At County Stadium, the Brewers were finishing up BP and somebody hit a lazy fly to right field. Charlie Moore was out there shagging flies and for this ball he jogged up to it, then did a full cartwheel and caught the ball just off the turf while he was upside-down in the cartwheel roll. I still remember it plain as day and whenever my dad and I talk about the old Brewers, we always get to reminiscing about Moore and, sure enough, one of us will always interject with a, "Do you still remember that cartwheel catch?" as if the other had forgotten about it.
  2. did Gomez tweak something there? Looked like he was stretching his back in the dugout.
  3. that's funny 'cause when I play 2k10 (PC) it's the same for me. Braun can't do jack most of the time while Zaun is walking all the time and ripping doubles left-and-right. Maybe I'm not as patient with Braun as I am with Zaun.
  4. it should be Wes Helms home run of Schoeneweis to cushion the Marlins lead over the Mets in that game. Wow, we could get 2 former Brewers on one Bobblehead statue. Nice. Real nice.
  5. just wanted to say thanks again for this. In years past, I would casually glance at these threads maybe once or twice a week (at best) but I made it a New Year's Resolution this year to read it every day for the first time. Not sure how much I'll contribute, but I'll enjoy reading, checking links, and learning more about our minor league system.
  6. wait a minute-- what will that Levine guy from the Yankees say to this?? How will he respond now???? Seriously, assuming the figures are correct, I think this is a heck of a deal. You always have to wonder if another Higuera/Sheets situation will occur with injuries after the ink is dry but the Brewers need to show the fans, their teammates, and the rest of the majors that they are serious about contending for 4-5 more years, which could, in theory, help persuade some more/better free-agents to sign here. If they can get Prince to do the same, I'll be a happy camper.
  7. this thread, and the one prior to it, is, indeed, quite funny. But, really, do we want to turn our nice little fan forum into the "Cubs" of the internet?
  8. now that our school internet is back up, I see the Crew has taken the lead! Nice! Can't wait to check out the game recording when I get home. Was Hawkins really "on" in the 8th? Looked effortless on Gameday.
  9. I thought Hart hesitated a tiny bit, thinking it was going to carom off that corner of the stands, but it just missed and, thus, threw his timing off. By the way, sorry to jinx the game with my Stewart comment from this morning.
  10. Yay! Wolf's ERA is down to 6.00! Good inning, overall.
  11. I like that Casey took the pitch where it was and took it to RF like he should rather than trying to pull it. Great approach. Wonder if Hart was watching how that was done.
  12. well, a quick look through DTV's RSN-Alt channels has revealed no WMLW game for us out of staters either. Guess I watch the Rockies broadcast while I cue up Uecker and Provus on the gameday Audio.
  13. isn't that the shirt that Dwight wore on "The Office" at one point?
  14. as for Directv for those outside the blackout area, they usually put the WMLW games on one of their alternate sports pack channels but they don't list it in the guide, so you pretty much have to hunt for it once game time arrives. If I find it, I'll post the channel (or somebody else can do this if they beat me to it.)
  15. I know you said the lineup is not official, but if it is, I'll be curious to see how Ian Stewart does against a lefty. I'm really looking forward to watching Wolf work, too. He seemed to be pretty effective last year with the Dodgers. Ugh, still have 4 hours to go . . .
  16. It was indeed a semi-frustrating game to watch (after the fact) but I didn't care all that much since baseball is back. Tomorrow is a whole 'nother story. Oh, and I absolutely LOVED watching the game in HD here in Arizona on the EI package. Awesome! Even my wife commented how good it looked--especially after we turned on the Butler-Duke game (on a non-HD CBS channel) and she commented about how "grainy" the picture was compared to the Brewer game. We'll go get 'em tomorrow.
  17. yes, indeed, that was one heck of a game. I was ticked off that my tivo recording of the game ran out with 21 seconds left and I had to find out how it ended on espn.com Sorry, had to watch my recording of the Brewer game first. One would think that a 2 1/2 hour time block is more than enough for a college basketball game. Guess not. Gotta be proud of Butler. They held in there until the end and proved that they belonged in the game and was no fluke. I agree with other posters re: Butler killing themselves with horrible inside shooting and spaz-like play from their big man.
  18. I will be teaching this morning/afternoon while the game is on and won't watch it until I get home. Heck, I will be shutting down my computer in a bit just so I'm not tempted to peek at a score or two. But I'm glad it's Opening Day . . . VERSE Well, I count up the days in a winter haze Since the leaves began to fall. Now it won’t be long ‘til the sun comes shining through. When the camps start breakin,’ my spirits awaken To an irresistible call, Of an old American song that’s always new CHORUS And the robin is here, The sky is so blue. There’s a band, there’s music And the flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, It’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. VERSE Now will the champs repeat in the summer heat? Will the races go down to the wire? In April ev’ry team has a chance to wear the ring. And there’s a rookie phenom Who tore up the farm, And the fans never seem to get tired Of chasing the dreams that dance in the air ev’ry spring. CHORUS Yeah, the robin is here, And the sky is so blue. There’s a band, and there’s music, The flags are flying, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, Yeah, it’s Opening Day, I can be a kid once more. BRIDGE So open the gates And let the people in. Let the games begin. And may the home team always win! CHORUS The robin is here, The sky, so blue. There’s a band, and there’s music, And the flags are flyin’, too. The grass is so green, It’s like never before, It’s Opening Day, Yes, it’s Opening Day, It’s Opening Day And we all can be kids once more.
  19. we just felt that 6.9 earthquake off the Baja peninsula here in NW Arizona. That would be the 2nd earthquake that I have felt since I've been here. At least this one I was awake for--the other one happened at 3:00 am about 10-11 years ago and lasted longer but I was in a semi-sleepy haze.

  21. I can't be the only one who read the thread title and for a split-second thought they released the "other" Rivera. You know, the "good" one? I'm kind of surprised, really. I'd think he could be at least as useful as Moeller.
  22. one wonders if the scoreboard outages are "planned" in a method of, "okay, everybody, what do we do during the regular season if THIS happens. . . . ." just to see how the team (of techs) cope with the problem
  23. who'da thunk it? Butler Bulldogs . . . Horizon League . . . in the National Championship Game! Wow! Michigan St. and Butler both shot themselves in the foot the last 10 minutes of the game. Michigan State bled out, I guess. AWESOME!!!! I thought it was something I'd never see when Wisconsin made the Final Four 10 years ago. Then George Mason made the Final Four a few years ago. Now, a mid-major is in the title game! This is something the NCAA will never allow to happen in college football. Too bad, the ratings will be absolutely horrible if it ends up Butler vs. West Virginia on Monday night. Probably would be one heck of a game.
  24. it took you 6 Miller Lites to come up with that list?? THAT'S dedication! http://forum.brewerfan.net/images/smilies/wink.gif
  25. I was in the chat room for a bit, but nobody else showed up so I ditched and just listened to Brian, Bill, and Kent. Nice win, though.
