  1. Listening to Christopher Russo causes me physical pain.
  2. They won't get an elite guy for one year of Gallardo, that's just not how the offseason trade market works anymore. The Brewers system needs depth and upside on offense. Especially in the infield. That's true regardless of what other moves they make this offseason. The Rangers system is deep, if they can grab a couple raw guys with upside and room to grow I'll be happy.
  3. How hilarious is it that this is unfolding at the same time as the Packer game? That feels like such a stereotypical Doug 'low key, duck the media' type move almost to the point of parody.
  4. Taijuan Walker is most likely untouchable. Good prospects and young big leaguers just don't get flipped for vets as easily as they used to. There's a pretty solid collection of mid-rotation guys available in free agency so it doesn't seem like a good time to shop a starter. I don't see any good reason to blow up this team right now. They are good enough to contend next year, and if they aren't than Lohse and Gallardo will probably fetch about the same return in July that they would now. If you aren't going to shop the guys with one year left then there's definitely not a reason to trade our two guys who could actually fetch an elite prospect.
  5. Sorry if this doesn't belong in the Major League forum, but the latest fangraphs podcast talks for a couple minutes about Tyler Wagner at the AFL and his uncommon arm action. They compare Jungmann who the Brewers tried to tinker with to Wagner who they're letting do his thing. Starts around the 27 minute mark. Cistulli is one of those guys people either love or hate, but Kiley Mcdaniel is definitely worth reading/listening to when it comes to amateur scouting. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/fangraphs-audio-kiley-mcdaniel-on-the-arizona-fall-league/
  6. Shields has actually gained velocity on his fastball. He averaged 92.5 on his 4 seam last year which was the highest of his career. Scherzer on the other hand has dropped from 94.2 in 2012 to 92.8 last year. My biggest concern with Shields would be how hard the was worked by the Royals last year. Also I think the rotation is pretty adequate for 2015 and the Brewers would be better served spreading their money around to aquire depth in the field and the pen.
  7. All I'm going to say is that I don't envy Roenicke for having to make this decision, and potentially setting playoff rotation. This years rotation is really weird, and it's hard to argue that any one of them is a better pitcher than the others.
  8. I think this is what they call one of them 'good problems.' Let Garza and Lohse heal up without feeling like they need to rush back and then we can assess where we're at in a couple weeks. As a long time Fiers fanboy who never gave up hope, I'm just glad to see him up and showing everyone what he's capable of again. There's no such thing as having too much good starting pitching, everyone will find a place when the time comes.
  9. I think the real message will be in a couple minutes when we find out if he's the one getting the boot for Fiers
  10. Weeks should have hit that one further, when are we finally going to cut that bum.
  11. Good to see Smith looking extra sharp these last couple outings. They're going to need him in top form for the stretch run if the Brewers are going to have a shot.
  12. I think they might have had Maldy at the plate there if they tried for the tag
  13. The potential pool of free agent first basemen looks a lot better this offseason than last. Not to mention Reynolds hasn't exactly been a disaster. He's a good example of the fact that league average bats who can play solid first base are available for nothing even in a bad year for free agent first basemen.
  14. Braun shouldn't move to first unless he can no longer handle the outfield physically, same with ARam. It's much easier to sign an average hitting first baseman than an average hitting outfielder, and they are much cheaper to trade for. It makes no sense to move a guy down the defensive spectrum unless he significantly below average defense, that's throwing value away for no reason. There is probably a better than 50% chance that Parra is non-tendered this off-season so I don't even see how he factors into the discussion.
  15. RR said Fiers was going to start saturday in the post game presser
  16. TLR makes a fair point in my opinion. The Pirates pitch inside more than any other team in baseball and they hit more batters than any other team in baseball. The Pirates may not have hit Goldschmidt on purpose, but they play a style of ball that leads to a large number of guys getting hurt and players who face them having a greater risk of injury. I'm not a fan of the retaliatory plunking, but I think people are downplaying the Pirates role in this because Gibson and Towers are so easy to hate on. http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=0&type=c,4,5,11,7,8,13,-1,36,37,40,43,44,48,51,-1,6,45,62,-1,59,21&season=2014&month=0&season1=2014&ind=0&team=0,ts&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0&sort=19,d Pirates have 20% more hit batsmen this year than the next closest team, and almost twice as many as the DBacks.
  17. good job zack, you got an entire continent to hate the dodgers
  18. The Dakotas fandom is pretty evenly split between Packers and Vikings, with the Packers recent success they must be edging them out by a bit. The Packers are like the Cardinals of football with the fanbase spread over a huge area and a wholesome image. If I wasn't born here I'd probably hate them just as much. Arizona hates Pittsburgh because they lost to them in their only super bowl appearance
  19. I think moving A-ram to 1b would be a waste for the same reasons that moving Braun to 1b would be a waste. Rami has no range which would still be a problem at first. The things that make him still an average 3b are the accurate arm and soft hands, which would be wasted over at first. I'd rather keep guys playing as high up on the defensive spectrum as long as possible. This depends on what's available this off season too. There will be guys like Cuddyer, Victor Martinez, Mike Morse, maybe Adam LaRoche available to play first, and I'm not as high on the potential third base options. I was kind of ticked when Headley went to the Yanks because I think he's going to play well enough to finish the season to take away his status as a solid buy low option.
  20. Apperently Henderson isn't ready yet so he's headed back to Maryville. How do the rehab assignment rules work? Is this something he had to agree to otherwise they would have to expose him to waivers? Will this count as part of the same trip to the DL or will he start a new clock?
  21. Mark Williams joins him on the list of Brevard guys with shiney new amphetamine suspensions.
  22. Kind of an odd move for the deadline, but I honestly don't hate it for Miami. Hernandez is a solid regular and Cosart is a solid mid rotation guy on a team that could be looking pretty competitive by next year. I've never been very fond of Marisnick. Moran hasn't exactly lit the world on fire, and the Marlins are in a better position than anybody to assess his makeup and approach. People will make fun of this trade because it's the Marlins, but they got the last laugh in the Blue Jays trade, and they could do it again here.
  23. Haniger is a future corner outfielder with average power and a decent approach at the plate who's 23 years old. Outfield is the biggest strength of the system right now. You've got not only Tayor, but also Michael Reed imo as guys in the system I'd rather keep than Haniger. He doesn't have a plus tool that's going to carry him to the bigs, besides maybe the arm, and that means a lot of things are going to have go right for him to ever be a major league regular. He's definitely got value, but you've got to give up value to get some value. I don't see how anyone can argue he's a guy that we can't live without.
  24. unnamed minor leaguer headed to STL figured there had to be more
