  1. The 2020 season was fake as hell. Is there really anyone out there who is upset we didn't do better? Get a life, lol. They should have lost every game for the draft position. It's not like any team accomplished anything of lasting significance that year. It wound up being a perfect pivot year between two separate contending runs.
  2. I really hope you've never been put in charge of anything in your life because this is the worst possible attitude a manager can have
  3. Urias now has a 158 wrc+ and only one more strikeout than walk. I don't want to get too excited, but he might be taking another big step forward. He's finally really showing the elite contact skills he was hyped for and blending that with the power gains he made last year.
  4. Ashby looked great. My guess is that he's rejoining the rotation in 5 days, so tonight was the last night he was available in the pen.
  5. They will go with Cain until Taylor definitively earns the job from him, or deadline season I imagine.
  6. Christian Yelich is such a weird player. It really seems like in 2020 and 2021 he split his skill set into two opposite extremes that were both kind of bad, and now is merging them together again. Another example of this if you look at his statcast page: in 2020 he crushed fastballs and couldn't hit changeups, then in 2021 he crushed changeups but couldn't hit fastballs, and now he's hitting up them both well, but not as well as the previous peaks.
  7. Lots of walks and lots of strikeouts. Big guy 6'5" 240. Anyone know what kind of stuff he has?
  8. Somewhat lost in the Yelich groundball rate discussion: He's still hitting a lot of groundballs (like he did in 18/19) but he's not hitting all those Baltimore chops straight into the dirt in front of the plate which almost never go for hits. I think i can only remember one from this year, and it felt like he hit one at least every 10 at bats last year. I don't know if there's publicly available data which can separate contact quality on groundballs, but it feels important intuitively.
  9. Stearns and Counsell read everyone's complaints about the offense and decided to fix it by telling the players to hit better.
  10. 29 runs this week already. I think it's safe to say we have one of the best offenses in the league. It should only get better when Urias comes back.
  11. First 6+ homer game last night since August 2019 when the curse was put on our team. Maybe it's lifted?
  12. Either keston or brosseau will go down. It would probably be Brosseau at this point, but things can change
  13. He looks more confident every game. He still hits a lot of balls on the ground, but he did that in 2018 and 2019. He doesn't have to be a 600+ slg monster to still be really really good. Even if he's only a 450-475 slg guy now, I think he could run a 20+% walk rate if pitchers have to respect his power even a little bit.
  14. I had a feeling Ramirez might get moved after the Indians extension attempt got laughed off. I really hope the Brewers are in on him. I don't really care what it costs.
  15. I would have been perfectly fine giving that money to Pina, and I think he's a good add for the Braves, but the Brewers seem to do better than the average team at developing and spotting good defensive catchers so it's probably smart to spend elsewhere in FA.
  16. This seems to fix all the problems with the broadcasts the last few years. We get to keep BA and also don't have to deal with 3 different back ups. Sounds good to me.
  17. If Stearns really wants to leave you have to let him go I think. I don't think you let an executive play out a lame duck contract the way you would a player, it doesn't work that way. If Stearns wants to go you try to exchange him for something useful and give the team over to Arnold, if he wants to stay you extend him and probably lose Arnold at some point. I'm sure these conversations will happen soon once the offseason begins. How the Brewers are managed is impressive enough to me that it can't all be the one guy at the top, I think the team will still be fine.
  18. absolutely zero chance they throw someone on three days rest in the nlds lol
  19. Based on his service time he should have one more year of arbitration eligibility before free agency, I'm not sure why spotrac is saying he's a free agent next year. I think it's possible for a free agent to negotiate a deal where they can opt out of arbitration at the end of the guaranteed portion of their contract, but I would be surprised if a low level signing like Peterson was able to secure such a clause. Usually it's older established guys coming over from Japan or Cuba who have a contract like that.
  20. I think money will be tight next year with Cain and JBJ still under contract, and all our stud pitchers entering arbitration. I don't really like the risk of offering Garcia a QO unless he finishes the season on a hot streak with an OPS around 900. There's tons of uncertainty around what the financial structure in baseball is going to be and even if there's going to be a season next year, and Garcia seems like the type of player with a wide range of valuations around the league. If the market doesn't play out well for him and the teams that like him go elsewhere his price could collapse. If I were him I'd probably take the QO.
  21. I think their logic in a lot of things is that good defense is more consistent and gives a player a higher floor than good offense, especially with players that aren't going to get regular at bats. You could bring up one of those bat first corner infield types and maybe they hit and maybe they won't, but with Reyes you know absolutely he's going to do a good job at one half of the game. This is why JBJ's struggles don't bother me too much, because you just know if he wasn't here they would have a light hitting defensive specialist on the roster and getting a start a week or so just because that's the kind of baseball counsell and stearns play.
  22. If he accepts the qualifying offer he still gets that 2 million on top of it, that's money owed to him from his current contract not his next one. you don't get to subtract that from the value of the qo
  23. According to Fangraphs he had accumulated -9.9 defensive runs on arriving in Milwaukee and he's +20.2 with us.
  24. What Omar has done to turn himself from maybe the worst regular defensive catcher into one of the best is truly remarkable. I know Charlie Greene and the front office gets a lot of love, but Omar has got to have an incredible work ethic and willingness to accept coaching to accomplish this. If he could be extended this offseason for something in the range of the James Mccann contract or a little north of that I think it would be an incredible steal.
  25. If he can maintain a strikeout rate in the teens he will be very useful player with all his power.
