  1. I'm basically easily comfortable with Tellez or Wong as the only lefty starter vs a lefty. Having too many good options every night is a good problem to have.
  2. The Adames trade has gone so well I feel like Rowdy Tellez has slipped under the radar. He has all the strengths Vogelbach has with better power, less strikeouts and better d at first.
  3. I know it's cliche to complain about, but listening to ARod really does annoy me. I might have to go for a little drive and listen on the radio for half of it.
  4. The Brewers and 6th in MLB in K% and the Giants are 7th, and we have the same exact walk rate tied for 4th best. What they do better than us is hit for power. 160 ISO vs 191. A better example of a good offense with a more contact oriented style is San Diego. They're about even with us in walks and ISO, but strike out 4% less leading to 12% better offense production by wrc+.
  5. Tellez indeed starting over Hiura who can't be long for the active roster I would guess
  6. You can't just take super team friendly deals you make up in your head and compare them to actual deals signed by players and say they're better. Of course they are, but that has nothing to do with anything. If Adames is signing an extension at this point you'll probably have to pay him a market rate into his mid 30s. It would be like trying to sign Freddy to that deal right now after he's already an all star. Not gonna happen.
  7. From The Athletic today "Interestingly, the Brewers will no longer use a six-man rotation, even though Adrian Houser started Friday and lefties Eric Lauer and Brett Anderson are the probable pitchers for Tuesday and Wednesday, respectively. Instead, Counsell alluded to skipping starts, shortened starts or using tandems. “We don’t need six starters,” Counsell said. “There’s some guys I really feel like we should keep on every five days here, and we’ll continue to do that.”"
  8. We secured one of the foundations of our lineup for years to come who plays good d at a premium position for the spare change in the couch. This trade could end up being thought of right next to the yelich one soon.
  9. Hader is pitching twice as good as he was when he was a multi inning fireman and will probably end the season throwing 65 innings instead of 80. It's a good trade off. People just assume Hader would pitch as good if you pushed him harder. For every multi inning appearance Hader had like the one vs. the Reds when he struck out 8 guys, he would have multiple where he came out the second inning throwing 93 with his fastball and struggling with his command.
  10. This quote from Counsell stuck out to me in the latest article on the Brewers base running in The Athletic. The bit about base running and defense complimenting me got me thinking. Obviously the place where we've got the most impact talent right now is the top 3 of the rotation and back end of the bullpen so pitching is going to be the cornerstone of the team and the place to build around. Putting a good defensive team behind those pitchers makes them even better. The types of players that are good defenders are usually fast and have good instincts and awareness which leads them to be good base runners. The best way to maximize having good base runners is to draw a lot of walks, so the Brewers focus on being patient and seeing a lot of pitches. Seeing lots of pitches grinds down opposing pitching staffs and lets you get swings on guys who are fatigued after throwing 20+ pitches in an inning or are lower leverage arms in the enemy bullpen because their starter had to leave in the 4th. The more of those type of swings you get the bigger your chances are of hitting the ball hard and putting up crooked numbers in an inning. When this team is playing its best those are the areas they're excelling in and you can see how each step of the strategy reinforces and strengthens the other steps. This is how they're making the most of their limited resources. I hope people keep this in mind when they complain about Yelich not being more aggressive at the plate. Seeing 8 pitches and drawing a walk, even seeing 8 pitches and ultimately striking out, don't just get reflected in his stat line. There is a chain of synergy in that strategy that runs all throughout the team.
  11. Cain wasn't even having a bad season before he got injured I don't see what everyone is complaining about. Speculation about his offseason routine is silly. None of you know how he prepares or what it takes to stay in shape for a baseball season. Personally I'm excited to get him back and I think he'll be a real shot in the arm for the team.
  12. Our only problem now is that when we face Tampa in the world series Adames will have to hit in the Trop again.
  13. It's a long season. No need to push Burnes off the rest he's been on all year for one game in June. That's a panic/desperation move and the Brewers are in a great spot and don't need to.
  14. I assume he's getting called up for tomorrow if they've already put their lineup out and there's no announcement from the team
  15. Kolten Wong is putting up the highest isolated slugging number of his career and also the lowest strikeout rate of his career. Has been sneakily really really good.
  16. Wong gets activated and the losing stops. Nice.
  17. Brosseau has minor league options there's no reason to trade him at a low point in his value
  18. What about Kyle Seager? He's not having a great year, but that line is above average in 2021. He's left handed so he pairs with Urias, He plays decent defense and he has power that could play up in AmFam. Has a team option for next year that you'll probably have to buy out but he shouldn't be too expensive.
  19. Giving this information away publicly would give a tactical advantage to the Brewers opponents. You don't want anyone to know exactly how and when Josh will be used.
  20. Some of the responses in this thread are reflective of the worst aspects of sabermetric/silicon valley type thinking. You have one of the most valuable relief assets in the game under contract for years and your response is to try to squeeze 5% more value out of him by completely changing his routine and also costing him 10+ million dollars over the course of multiple trips through arbitration? A player who has already shown himself to be vulnerable to periods of volatility? Having a team full of happy comfortable ballplayers has to matter at least a tiny bit because you win 0 games without them.
  21. Cain has been playing great ball
  22. Most hilarious part about this thread is repeatedly complaining about not signing Matt Duffy instead of Shaw or Robertson as if they weren't all scrap heap guys. We have a consistently good team even if it isn't perfect, just enjoy it.
  23. I feel like I've heard Lorenzo call Woodruff Big Woo before
  24. If Urias and Narvaez are each having mini-breakouts it's going to make that lineup look really nice once everyone gets healthy, and makes up for getting nothing out of Hiura.
