  1. That's why we got 5 years of Lauer for 2 of Davies? If that 1st part plays out that way we are in trouble. I don't believe the 2nd line at all. Houser = Woodruff? hmmmm Lauer > Davis, based on what? Lindblom=Peralta Then why did we need Lindblom since we already have Peralta? This is in comparison as noted by Ender above heading in to 2019. Davies has had a career FIP of 4.22 It was 4.39 in 2018 in only 66IP and carried a 4.77ERA. Lauer has a career 4.35 FIP 4.23 in 2019. 149.2IP with a 4.45 ERA. I posted awhile back at Coors he is awful, worse than Burnes last season in terms of stats. I'm not going to figure it out again, I think his ERA would have been below 3.55? Removing 11innings there. Brewers will only have 1game that they could foolishly start him in Coors in 2020 or his stats continue on what it's been outside of that Field. Houser and Woodruff. Well both pitched games as a Starter and Relieved games in the bullpen the season prior. A little reverse though as Houser has more starts less RP compared to Woodruff's less starts and more RP. That should indicate that as a Starter heading in to 2020 we have a better idea what Houser should produce than Woodruff did coming in to 2019. And in the larger starting sample Houser had a better ERA than Woodruff did. Lindblom equals Peralta. Well in this one I'm kinda putting Lindblom to Peralta's equal because his arm should last through a full season. You're looking at the #5 spot going in to 2019 with Peralta. So in that fact I just hope for an ERA below 4.5 in a full season of starts. Will he do it? We'll find out. If not you know the fall back is Peralta and Peralta Equals Peralta. lol.
  2. You're right I was thinking 6 runs or more vs more than.
  3. I think the rule would allow a position player to pitch in that instance. 6runs or more from 9th inning or extra innings I read no? It's the 7th/8th inning roles they are removing. I do find the multi-way player confusing. Let's say Ohtani DH's the first month of the season as his pitching arm wasn't ready to begin the season. The Angels would have to list him as a Pitcher during that time? It seemed that way. They had to start off as a pitcher and not a position player? I think MLB could have done better and just had a team fill out this player would be multi-way on the season and that player had to hit the mark to carry the title next season. Say if the player didn't meet the designation, the Team is penalized a 1st round draft pick. The player as stated loses the chance next season as a title multi-way and would be left being a pitcher or position player only the next season.
  4. That's why we got 5 years of Lauer for 2 of Davies? If that 1st part plays out that way we are in trouble. I don't believe the 2nd line at all. Grisham was part of the deal and I think his upside outweighed their view on Urias' upside. Davies for Urias Grisham for Lauer. This is my feelings of heading in to the season vs last season. ThoughI was super confident in Woodruff&Burnes. Superfly re:Lindblom he's improved from the previous stint where that wasn't all that great. Last 2 seasons were much better than his 1st two. Where Im upside in him is handling a seasons workload. If healthy he should last 33 starts. Peralta couldnt do that last season, not sure he could this season. The MO for last season was starters going 5IP. I think we have a shot with three pitching in the 6th inning. Workload=less on bullpen. Also Woodruff had. 158IP in 2016.
  5. I see Urias as having had time and experience to garner the prospect rating, he had results to. Just take this bit for granted. 2018 he was MLB's #27 prospect at least from midseason and beyond. The writeup: Scouting grades: Hit: 70 | Power: 45 | Run: 50 | Arm: 55 | Field: 60 | Overall: 55 Signed out of the Mexican League in December 2013, Urias has since developed into one of the more accomplished hitters in the Minor Leagues. The California League's youngest everyday player on Opening Day in 2016, Urias went on to win the circuit's batting title and MVP award at age 19, and then garnered Double-A Texas League All-Star honors in 2017 before a standout turn in the prestigious Arizona Fall League. Urias stands out as much for his approach and plate discipline as he does for his pure hitting ability. He has an advanced knowledge of the strike zone as well as excellent pitch recognition, a combination that netted him the Texas League's top on-base percentage (.398) in 2017, and has resulted in more walks (153) than strikeouts (135) in four professional seasons. Urias' bat-to-ball skills are impressive, and he produces hard line drives across the entire field with a compact, level swing. His raw power, meanwhile, is better than his numbers suggest, though Urias' should be a consistent source of extra-base hits thanks to his knack for pounding the gaps. Urias has solid arm strength and can get the job done at shortstop, but he offers more upside at second base, where he's a plus defender and has spent the bulk of his pro career. Urias proved plenty capable at shortstop in 2017, first in Double-A and then in the Arizona Fall League, and should continue to see some time there moving forward. His ultimate defensive home, however, is likely second base, where he profiles as an above-average defender with good range and arm strength. Overall, Urias has the ingredients to hit atop a lineup while manning a middle-infield position for a long, long time. He played all 120 games that season at AAA .296/.398/.447/.845 batting line. 67/109 BB/Ks in 450ABs. Rengifo in 2018 had this writeup for the Angels as their #10 prospect: Scouting grades: Hit: 50 | Power: 35 | Run: 55 | Arm: 55 | Field: 55 | Overall: 45 Rengifo originally signed with the Mariners in March 2014 as the Venezuelan showed improvement on both sides of the ball as an amateur. He spent his first two summers in Venezuela and the Dominican Republic before making his United States debut in the rookie-level Arizona League in 2016, then jumped to full-season ball in 2017. The Rays got him from the Mariners in August of that season, but his time with Tampa was short-lived as he was shipped to the Angels in March to complete the C.J. Cron trade. The switch-hitting Rengifo has a short, compact swing from both sides of the plate, with feel for the barrel that enables him to produce consistent contact. He shows some pop from the left side of the plate, albeit mostly to the gaps, but offers little in the way of power as a righty, with very good plate discipline allowing his hit tool to play up. Rengifo's above-average speed makes him a threat on the basepaths, and he's improved his basestealing efficiency to maximize that tool. Defensively, Rengifo has already played a number of positions, mostly in the middle infield, though he has seen time at third and even in the outfield. He has the range, quickness and arm for the left side of the infield and the Angels had him playing shortstop during his first season in the organization, though his versatility could come in handy in the future Now Rengifo started 2018 at A+ ball for 41 games: .323/.426/.466/.892 27/22 BB/Ks in 161AB Followed with AA promotion for 40 games: 305/.420/.477/.897 23/22 BB/Ks in 151AB Followed with AAA promotion for 46games: .274/.358/.421/.779 25/31 BB/Ks in 190AB. 2019 season Rengifo had 27starts in AAA and was promoted to the Angels rookie team for the season. That is less than 120 starts combined for Rengifo in AA and AAA than Urias just in 2018 alone at AAA. Urias went on for 73more games in 2019 at AAA(no doubt for a Super 2 clock stoppage) He should be well prepared. He has 540 games played in the minors compared to 437(124 at Foreign Rookie) I think if Rengifo completed a full season in 2019 at AAA his real value as a prospect would be known. Super rushed vs. long term experience at the upper levels. but overall result for rookie 2019=similar. Age, Experience, MLB Results = clone at the moment. We'll see how this grades out over time, and it will likely be right that Urias turns out the better overall player. It seems amazing that we got him And Lauer for Davies and Grisham. 70grade hitting they had Urias in 2018. Please turn true. Certainly not via Statcast last season.
  6. The 6th and 7th guys are the guys who were actually in the rotation last year! That isn't less depth, it is more. I am more confident in Woodruff this year than I was any pitcher in the rotation last year. I'm as confident in Lauer this year as I was any of those guys last year. When healthy I am more confident in Anderson than any of those guys last year. I'm more confident in Lindblom and Houser than I was the 3 rookies last year. Last year's rotation was terrifying, this years is much more comfortable. Boom. Agreed. Nailed what I've been arguing. Woodruff>Chacin Lauer>Davies Anderson>Burnes Lindblom=Peralta Houser=Woodruff. When comparing staff starting 2019 vs staff for 2020. Peralta and Burnes are still on the team. Suter is back from TJ. Kneble will be back shortly from TJ. Im only skeptical of 1b/3b heading in to this season vs last, but we accomplished the playoffs with that area of Strength heading in to 2019 being a trainwreck. Imagine a full season of Woodruff, Yelich, & Hiura? That's a lot a value added every time they take the field. Urias maybe at some point embarrasses the production Arcia has given to the team. Should feel far more excited than the vibe going around here.
  7. Just ignore Woodruff's 10.7k/9 of last season. I think math dictates that is more than Descalafini. I dont know where it compares with their best three starting have to look it up. But healthy Woodruff is eclipsing at last one of the 4. All posters arguing for the Reds rotation stay rosey on them while taking a crap on the Brewers rotation. Anderson wont make the full season. Lindblom wont matter. Lauer I dont even know what is bad on him? Then you have a group for #5s that imo will produce better than #5s typically do. But go on every thing that is bad about about them is only going to be wprse. Everything that has ever been positive for the Reds staff isnt anywhere near their ceiling. It's only better for the Reds. Staff will carry below a 2ERA. Brewers staff above 5ERA.
  8. Luis Urias would be about the closest I can see in comparison to age, levels reached and MLB experience. After that no one is even close. ... If it takes Urias to get these two, you're looking at the Medical issues and waiting in to the season? So let's turn this all upside down and bring the trade idea around to Hader for these 2 plus. Thankfully, talent is more important than age, levels reached, and MLB experience. Rengifro and Urias are not at all comparable talent-wise. Rengifro is likely a guy who will have value as long as he's inexpensive, while Urias is one of the highest-rated prospects in the game, so Urias would not even be in the discussions in this trade. If the Dodgers wanted someone for the 26-man, it would probably take Houser or Peralta as we don't have position players who match Rengifro's value. If they are looking at minor leaguers, it'd be more like Feliciano, Eduardo Garcia, or Carlos Rodriguez with some other pieces thrown in to even things out. The Dodgers seem to be trying to cut payroll to below the "cap" level while trimming the 40-man. If they are willing to take less value back in order to reach these goals, as it appear from the proposed Angels deal, then that sounds like a value deal right up Stearns' alley. A big question is the Brewers' financial/budget situation. Did the Brewers go into the offseason with a goal of cutting payroll to the current level, or did it just occur with the "value deals" available? If they felt the need to cut to the current level, would Attanasio be willing to add just under $10M to this year's payroll to make this deal happen? He's been willing to go over budget in the past for what he thought were meaningful upgrades to the team, so would this return be meaningful enough for him to spend the money? Disregarding money, this seems like a steal. If you can make it budget-wise, make the deal and let the playing-time questions sort themselves out. As others have said, other than Yelich, Hiura, and probably Urias when he's healthy, no one on the roster should be guaranteed "everyday player" status. I mean when comparing the two it is as similar as it gets. Age. Height weight position played. Urias has more games played in the minors. .830OPs to .765OPS career. But arguably Rengifro had a better rookie season. Statcast has both 86.7MPH exit velocity. Urias 1% less ks. But less barrels/hard hit balls but overall Id say within 5% of being identical statcast batters. Maybe defense or ability at SS gives him the better rankings. Maybe the rush up by Angels never led to Rengrifo getting prospect hype? Urias is the closest in value to him facts.
  9. So part of this is Anti-tanking, part of this is TV revenue, let's add one more revenue maker. Take the 8 teams that are wild-cards and have a NBA like lottery. Pick one of the 8 out of a hat. Pick the winner a Draft spot numbered 1-8. The winner gets to pick where that spot is. Bumping everybody down below it. Add to the drama. The team/s with the worst record in baseball that season do the draw from the hats. Meaning if they draw 1 on the 1-8 it's their fault they lost the #1 choice and if it's to a team in their division even worse! They could do this during the selection show for playoff matchups or just at a later time. Imagine if a Wild Card team went on to win the WS and got the #1 pick? Hey and for degenerate gamblers, they now have something else to bet on. 1-8 which team? 1-8 which draft selection? Maybe baseball they could make a 500 or better rule on this Wildcard series. So Division rank 2 gets a bye also if Wild Card #4 doesn't have at least a .500 record. #3 Division if #3 wildcard doesn't have a 500 record. on and on. I expect 6 teams regularly to be 500 or better. that 7th team though is where 500 records may not be reached. So in essence you reward the #2 Division team with an *bye. And remove the #7 team from that playoff revenue or potential to host games if winning 2 on the road in to the Division series. I'd add that in my idea above if the team didn't win 500 or more they wouldn't be qualified for that drawing on draft pick. This could make the final series during the regular season matter for such a team if they may fall to 80wins with a loss or 3. So rather than maybe rest a #1 or #2 starter being "in" the wildcard 6 or 7 spot, they aren't actually in until that 81st win.
  10. It's too early I think to predict the Brewers since Lindblom is being inserted in to the staff from overseas. so I won't go there until some Spring Training appearances. The Cubs may change with a Bryant trade, another team to sit on til ST. Reds 89 wins- They've obviously added to the team. Pitching you have to assume will be consistently less inconsistent. Cardinals 82 wins- A team filled with below 800OPS bats and that wasn't improved on. One bigger pitching injury and it will crumble them, probably below 500. Pirates(easiest to project) 58 wins They're a bad team this season who will only try to sell off to get worse in 2020 but better in 2022 or later.
  11. I was all ready and set to argue that the expanded wild card teams would eliminate a Division winner having less wins over a more deserving wild card team. But the last time that was true was 2012 when Tampa had 90wins over a Detroit Division winning 88wins. 2008 seen the Dodger win 84 games to win the division while 4 teams had better records, 3 which didn't make playoffs. 2012 was when they implemented the two team wild card matchup. Maybe MLB is setting up a softer version to prepare for a 4 Division League after a 2 Team Expansion and then set up 3 wildcards to face 3 division winners. Followed with the typical Division Series/Champ Series/World Series. Though I think that form would be awful as essentially Division winners are forced to likely play a team who finished 2nd in their division to them negating the value on the regular season.
  12. This could work. Reduce the Regular season though to 156 games. Guarantees extra playoff home games. I'd just hope they play the 3game series in 3days. A day off only to travel for next series if need be. And go as you did in the past from there. Rewards the 1st wildcard much more than previous. Bigger emphasis on winning. The team that wins the most in each league may be getting hosed with the amount of off days before playing its 1st postseason game.
  13. I just had a thought when it comes to the TE/WR position. Allen Lazard bulking up and becoming a TE breed the ilk that Travis Kelce is. I think about how he goes about on the field he reminds me of a TE. He certainly led the WR core for blocking effectively. Put Sternberger now as #2 TE. I think you can create mismatches. If we're talking the WRs available in this year's draft being good, then just fill up on two within you're first 3 picks. Sign a FA WR to pair with Adams (Amari Cooper if can afford) Emmanuel Sanders or Breshad Perriman would seem the highest upsides. Sanders would be a 1 or 2yr contract I imagine? Perriman was a 1st rd pick that appears to know how to play FA contracts. Become a good looking WR in your last 5games before it, 506yds of 645 total yds on season. Essentially 1/3rd his total in career of 51 games. It's actually looking like a really weak class to do this. They had better find a WR with their 1st pick if the MLB they need most isn't there.
  14. If Verdugo were still a prospect what is his value being about #21-25? You're also putting the Twins up against Verdugo's contract value when he comes from the Dodgers. So what is the Dodgers value in this new deal, seeing as they end up Graterol. Essentially the break down should be the Twins vs Dodgers. and the Red Sox vs the Dodgers. Unless that prospect comes from the Red Sox to the Twins.
  15. Luis Urias would be about the closest I can see in comparison to age, levels reached and MLB experience. After that no one is even close. Just thinking if Milw went this route, they would have an OF mix at 62mil contract costs. Bats vs LHP would be: Yelich Cain Garcia Braun 1b Bats vs RHP would be: Yelich Pederson CF Garcia/Braun Smoak 1b Gamel doesn't get starts anymore via splits vs starters he's not winning any. If you bat Pederson at 1b vs RHP you have no reason to keep Smoak. He does better vs RHP and Braun is the platoon for him vs LHP. So fitting is reliant on bumping Cain out of the Starters role and making him the short part of the platoon in CF. Have we thought this through enough yet? 16mil for Cain to get under 350 PAs Or Give Cain the 500PAs and bump Garcia to under 350PAs. Gotta find a trade partner for Garcia to make this work. Imagine that? You signed him, and now you have to trade him. I think there is a limitation on that? I think that was mentioned somewhere. Just doesn't work with Garcia/Braun/Cain/Smoak. It works when you have any of those 4 on the DL for a longer period. Pederson deserves no PAs taking away from Yelich. Stripling has 3years of control at the age of 30. Good for 20-24Starts and the rest in the Bullpen. Or just Bullpen all together. So he'll never be too expensive. If it takes Urias to get these two, you're looking at the Medical issues and waiting in to the season? So let's turn this all upside down and bring the trade idea around to Hader for these 2 plus.
  16. What. What is this? Lets put 5OF starters for 3positions? Find Braun at 1b for playing time. Find Pederson a platoon?! For a 4th OF? Talk about a move to disgruntle Pederson by the Dodgers. A terrible use of roster space by Stearns. No the Dodgers wouldnt do that to Pederson. Stearns wouldnt do that for this roster. Dodgers can move Pederson to a team that will actually start him. We can/could do a deal for Stripling on his own. But I don't see the need. It fills the anxious posters needs here towards the SP heading in to ST. But we have 6 SPs to work with right now. A 7th to 9th that lurks in AAA who can fill out needs as the season dictates. Stripling hasnt exceeded 128IP in a season for his Professional Career. His stats look favorable due to over 1/3rd of his career as a RP. Bring him as a SP he sits at 3.71ERA in that role. A 5IP starter swingman basically. I just see him as redundant to the depth already in place that fit a swingman SP/RP role. The ceiling on that depth potentially higher to pull from that Stripling's.
  17. Not that I know what I'm looking at but I like Hedbert's swing. At that current swing for these two I'd comment this. Hedbert has some great bat speed. The swing is a little loopy so a lot of pulls and flyballs is what I seen off of that. Medina's a lot more square to the ball and through the zone. Bat speed wasn't on level with Hedbert's, but the contact in the swing would be much better than Hedbert's. 3TO in Hedbert. Medina is sound at the moment. Bat speed may leave him late on elite fastballs?
  18. The numbers show an area code that is in the US. From that hour it was Salt Lake city, Columbus, New York, State of Arizona, and St. Louis upon looking up where the area codes belonged. Salt Lake City, St Louis, and Columbus were 3 times each but the 7 digit numbers were all different.
  19. I made a mistake. I answered a foreign call and spoke. After 15secs I said delete from your call list. I figured out I could block the number on my phone so I did. In the last 50mins I have been bombarded with at least 15 calls at least 6 different area codes and 13 of them different numbers overall. The call I sat listening I overheard, I don't what do you call them? My cousin referred to them as towel heads. Indian? Just picture the sound of Apu is it from Simpsons? that gas station character. I have no clue what their purpose is by calling constantly when they don't respond nor leave a message.
  20. Ron Roenicke to be the Red Sox manager this season. There ya go.
  21. Who are the 6 potential All Stars ? Yelich and Hader is a given. Woodruff and Hiura Last two would be Cain on a 2018 season quality. And Narvaez. Grandal moved to AL. You have Realmuto but who can fill #2? Narvaez posts a 120OPS+ that would have to put him in the backup Catcher talk.
  22. The team acquiring him gets him for 162 games not 145 or 150. Why as the team with the best player do you give the other team a 10% discount? When has Wander Franco played 162 games in a year? I am coming from that the value of the prospect isn't being degraded for injuries or rest. What is to stop a team from not just moving Yelich to DH and play him 162 games a year there? Or at 1b? It should be a win in trade on the Brewers side valuing Yelich to 162 games and not 146. Proven vs projection in prospect.
  23. First off you can quit it with this tagline garbage. Second off surplus value is value above contract cost. He makes 15 mil his last year. 12.5, 14 and 15. Even if you call him an 8 war (which he hasn't done) player and place 9 mil per WAR due to him being an elite talent. That's 3 years of 216 mil, 2 years 144, 1 of 72. Surplus of 175, 115 and 57. And no ones talking about him before that surplus value gets to 57 (which is 49 by the law of fgraph) Those values all drop if you don't go beyond the 8 Fgraph assigns per WAR. Joseph (and I) prescribe to 9 per WAR on elite players. We disagree on lower level WAR but agree on the top. Fangraphs War has him at 7.6 and 7.8 last season. Those are at 147 games and 130 games played. So the trajectory of being 8WAR over a 162 game season is easily there. If I add the avg value Fangraphs put on his 2018 season and '19 season vs just taking the value he had for 2019 he comes to a per game average of 451k or 73.05million a season. At that value it's 4 mil less a season than what I rated him as a value to his 2019 season. Okay. Less 15mil is 58mil the final season vs the 63mil value I gave him. Rounded up because I think a 1 year rental is worth more in trade. You've dinged Yelich in terms of games total played a season. Is the value on prospects dinged that way? They will never play 162 games in a single season in the minors. Yelich had he played 162 games would have to come in at 9WAR possibly even approaching 10. Where does Fangraphs rank that as value? Well Mike Trout in 2015 & 2016 played in 159 games both seasons with War values of 9.3 and 9.7 and assessed a 74.4mil value and 77.5mil value. That amount comes to 477k per game value. I think that validates my value at 77mil or 73mil a season to Yelich.
  24. 2 top 50 for a season of Yelich? That's really funny. It wouldn't be funny if it was 2022 and July's trade deadline with Yelich staring at 60 games left as a Brewer. But any moment before it's really funny. Fangraphs has him at being a 123.1million value the last 2 seasons. And it was on the rise last season before the kneecap. If he played 162 games the pace he was on is one of 77.5 million value. So Joseph or who ever else does that trade values. Yelich is on a surplus of 191 million with 3 years control. 126 million with 2 years remaining. And 63mil with 1 season remaining. Go to it right? I feel in the opinion that he will remain a Brewer all 3 seasons, unless, the team comes say within 10days of any trade deadline and look out of playoff contention. Because I would think a team would have to pay for half a season of Yelich then even though it's around 60 games left at that stage. So you would go 38.75 less each season of surplus. 152.25mil at this year's deadline. 87.25 next year's deadline. 24.25 million at deadline the final season(is that worth more than the QO pick?) Trying to go off a value of a prospect article done less than 2 years ago. Wander Franco and Brendon McKay would have to headline a deal today. 2 top 15 prospects. Franco and Vidal Bruhan if at this season's deadline #1/#45 currently. Next offseason that translates to 1 of the current top 8 prospects plus a top 100 prospect. Or a combination being between 9-25 currently and 26-99 currently. but probably extra as you get lower in the top 100 vs top 50. Mid-season that still is a one of the top 8 prospects and around 100 or two top 25-99. Last season, you can still ask for a top 10 not graded a 70 and a bottom 100 plus. By mid-season you'd be looking at the top 26+ of current 60 grade values plus. Raise your standards and be happy that a HOF player is on This team.
  25. That's amazing how down so many of you are. Team as it sits has 4 All Stars that could jump up to 6 depending on how well the other two play. Think about that, who they are, who the 2 other could be? When have the Brewers had 6 potential All-Stars on their team? I think generally it was pushing 3-4 max heading in to a season.
