  1. Brewers 98 Cardinals 93 Cubs 90 Reds 82 Pirates 82 Hardest Division in Baseball. Too much talent on Brewers though with the bullpen to win close and come from behind games. Depending how Hiura fares and when called up could easily see this team going for 110wins.
  2. Martinez played 93games as a DH and accumulated about 55(9inn) games played in the OF. You remove him and our top 3 are .076 ops total different. The AL advantage having DH to enjoy a big bat w/o the Defense liability. Hitters ballpark and tank team competition. Someone put the stats together and not far from avg for all of baseball. #1 2b prospect because of the bat profile. Spangenburg is more than enough to platoon with Perez til our own Benitendi bat arrives. Why waste money on something Not needed? Edit add: Benitendi never played 1AB at AAA. Seems like a similar bat profile.
  3. Braun is due for that gritty vet, he still has it comeback season. .300/.360/525 over 25HRs. Less pressure on him while having far more bats now with lower K rates.
  4. Wouldn't Nelson have Options to the Minors to use? While he may not be full go end of Rehab, you'd likely just option him or have him spot start to option with the likes of Davies/Peralta et al.
  5. I'd chime in that Broxton couldnt have played as much on the field as Lagares has in those 3years. Wouldnt DRS be an accumulating stat over that time? I dont know how the UZR is figured. Don't even know what it is short for? Anyway just noting playing time may be a reason for Lagares better stats.
  6. Jed Lowrie at 34 hit 9 more HRs than any other season for him. Still just an .802 OPS. At best he may get 2years and I don't see why teams would pay him any more than 9mil in one of those seasons. The way Steamer works he's (guessing) at best a 2WAR player. Hiura when called upon will provide ample enough 2b production. I do have to say any Dubon suggestions I'm leery towards. He wasnt exactly call up next when having his injury. He's going to have to show more playing time before he'd be called up compared to Hiura.
  7. Fairly drastic decline than a year ago, even though so many are AAA probables. Really need a Catcher to step up as another year goes by and that group is lacking. Gatewood I hope returns healthy. I think he's been such a hard worker refining his deficiencies and fear he'll end up a casualty loss to another team running out of time controlled by the Crew.
  8. He is what 6'7"? Fairly big vertical strike zone. Maybe that attributes something to it.
  9. Broxton is still on the team. So Gamel doesn't need to be tied to playing CF. He'll be a corner for Braun or Yelich as needed. Bench bat potential late in games seems more promising to at least put the ball in play. You have the option. Trade seems good for 2019 team that plays healthy. Loved Santana but I get the big picture here.
  10. I agree with Oldsnapper that the OL is bad. I don't even consider Linsley average. The amount of hurries that 90% of QBs would have been sacks, Rodgers escapes out of the pocket. (To throw the ball away end result) There have been quite a few plays I seen Linsley didn't even touch a DL moving to double team only for a late up the middle blitz or likely lb spy to come right up and disrupt the play. The possitive grades must go to attributing Jones' high per carry avg. With Williams it's 3.7 vs 5.5 and a rb overall of #38 per carry avg. Jones is a young finisher and now on IR. Punishment you take from extending runs for tough 3yards. You have Rodgers avg with escape the pocket runs. The kicker is that just how often with a QB getting out of the pocket do you see GB use rollout pass plays? Especially with these Rookie Receivers who on can only on that play design be running in an area Rodgers is looking. Type of play where you'd think Graham being a TE vet would find a way to sit in a spot for Rodgers to zing to. Yes he's had a pretty terrible year(JG) but I feel the design play calls were not in his favor. Anyway, 13 on IR at the moment. Rodgers has been hurt all year since game 1. As I look at the standing GB can pick as high as #3 and about as low as #15. #17 really, but I assume two teams will be forced to win by facing each other and thus winning more than GB can. By all accounts, that is higher pick than the team stats vs the league would get them. Seem to hand around 16th in most stats and yet looking at around a 10-12th pick? Hopefully they find a stud RT to just insert and play out Rodgers career protecting him.
  11. My god. Im only through 5pages. A RP for draft pick is 10pages of discussion! I'll take the now over the future of near 40pick. Because of situations. Because of team/cost control. There are times to lament against a move like this. But this isn't one of them. How is the draft shaping up? Are there 20studs with 20WAR expectations on them in this draft? And thats where we may luck in to one dropping to us? 1game for the WS, arguing about this pick vs a player who has a fit into this roster? Just why? Not like the 17th pick for 3yrs of a Kyle Lohse at a hefty expense. Hope for the best from Claudio. Seems we have a roster spot designation covered for 3years.
  12. On the Rodgers hit. Look its a well known, experienced qb running the football. Defenders ought to know a QB slide is forthcoming as they near him to avoid a hit ARod ended up taking. Yet the guy made a tackling move not for a QB slide but any other offensive player running with the football and launched aggressively as a tackle. Flag should have been thrown. This situation imo is different on a QB runner like Cam Newton, watson, orthe likes who run more RB style and less sliding style. If it were Tom Brady you bet a flag is thrown and I'd gguess Brady gets up jarring at that guy in his face pushing and shoving. How about the QB lined up across the field? I think flag is thrown if that were Ryan being tackled that way. The win probably shifts GB out of a top 10 pick potential. 2 more wins and wont even be top 16. Just that kind of year
  13. I dont think a team with 2 losses should have a chance at the Playoff 4. The weak scheduling by Alabama does need to be addressed. They lose 1game or even 2 in their conference, it's jjust how great the SEC is to have that happen. But how about the conference is weak that year? How often is that barked at in men's bbasketball? The Big10? Its just never a thing. Sec is hardest conference since BCS existed. Yet how often are they losing the bowl games outside the BCS? How about set an open date (8th or 9th weekl) at neutral sites for every football team to play an opponent not known til the week before. Arrange it with every 12 in a determined ranking to go by to play vs. 1v12 2v11. Etc. 13v24 14v23 etc. 25v36 26v35 etc. This results in no top 25 team getting an argument having not played a tough opponent. UCF would play a tough game to have their record judged by. Tcu\Boise st\Central Michigan\Miami that group of teams gets their tough matchup argued not having. You also negate that we scheduled the tough out of conference game years back not knowing they were going to suck this season argument. It's week 8 or 9 and this is how they are Currently ranked in the minds of National Rankings. Now I know this will often result in a conference team facing eachother. Im not sure if you just swap 11/12 or 10/11 to gain the non conference matchup. Maybe you just play how its matched up, no matter what 1 team is hurt on playoff 5. One is upgraded. Leave that National Ranking group to drop or raise a team to avoid that scenario. You see it all the time 23-25 rankings always seem to happen when about to face a top 20 team.
  14. 1st rd pick as this year is going will in the final 5 or 6. Its not the biggest loss if you take that money saved and sign a useful player. This vs. Waiting on the next Wilson/Thon to make any contribution.
  15. The Packers scored on the first drive of the 2nd half the first 8 games. Only three were TDs though, struggling on 3rd down. The last 4 were punt results. Putting the writing on the wall for McCarthy to be let go. Not coming back to start the 2nd half with production in the games after 8 played you needed to do so. On the prediction kudos you give yourself. The Packers have 12 players on IR currently. These are key injuries at playmaking positions. WR, DE/DT, LB, and CB. Add to it the OL right side injuries-Murray and Bulaga. It's no wonder the offense struggles in the 2nd half(how often are the Packers down 3 or 4 players at that point from 1st half) Add Crosby's 2 if not 3 games lost due to him, Montgomery's snafu, Matthews' 1st 3 game penalty effect, the poor playcall by McCarthy on 4th down, and last week the easily dropped Int. It is not far of a reach for this team to be 10-2 had things gone in their favor. You have super success with Jones and he always seemed to be forgotten come 2nd half, choosing to instead rely on Adams and 1st year with Rodgers targets.
  16. Goldy is a superb player picked up by the Cardinals. Weaver/Kelly etc. aren't anywhere near the quality it should have taken to get a player like Goldschmidt. I'd call this every bit #1 off season move we'll likely see comparable to Brewers acquiring Yelich. The NL Central is scary how good it would seem to be. On the positive side, I'd say the Brewers Bullpen "outgetter" squad is probably the best way to negate all this offensive talent you are facing for half the season. Luke Weaver is a guy I think living off a 1st round selection and college age minors progression hope. Arizona should have looked to get Dakota Hudson who I believe has a higher ceiling and of course less service time. Kelley, I don't like catching prospects, they fail on expectations. He's not even a big hitter prospect for Catching, you can probably pick so many of these types off the scrap heaps, sorta like Erik Kratz. Arizona just spent Goldschmidt to acquire this type. What is Arizona doing? are they in rebuild now because this team easily lost 10 wins in Corbin/Goldy. Are they in the line for any of the big FAs with the money saved?
  17. This is shocking to me because I often thought Chase Anderson was a similar ability pitcher who seen success when their FBs upticked on their breakout seasons. Well, this looks like a terrible deal possibly because in Corbin's case his FB declined to that lower norm around 90-91. But, his success would be attributed to changing from a changeup 3rd pitch and now throwing a Curveball 3rd pitch. His slider instantly became a very successful strikeout pitch through the roofs on its rating. I would expect a lot of adjusting by batters to his new style and sequencing and with a falling FB around 90MPH, I'd expect this hitters to make 18 look like an outlier. We knew we'd see some ? deals this season vs last season. Get ready for worse deals than this!
  18. NL will be filled with 88+win projected teams. AL with 4 100+ win teams. Brewers may win 90games finish 7th best record in NL. MLB wont see anything wrong though with Yankees/Red Sox winning 110 each.
  19. Jones had to of made McCarthy mad on the run where he backed up 2yards trying to reverse field losing more yards than the 2 he would have. Wasn't in the game again until the rushing td. The last play on the 4th possession after! This is #1 reason MM should be fired immediately. He has done this over and over again not playing Jones in 2nd half. He just can't playcall for any offense but leaving it in Rodgers hands. I feel almost like MM only has an entire 15plays drawn up for running plays in the Packers playbook. How did Arizona turn the game in their favor? Their playmaking RB took 5carries 51 yards. Rosen went 33. Gash for some big yards open up the field. Why not play both RBs on the field vs the rookie filled 4WR set who frustrate Rodgers by not being on same page? Another dud for the O-line. Arz's line pushing their RB forward. Gb's? Just a cpl yards to walk to the huddle whats the point of pushing past the line of scrimmage? The team is lost. The urgency to win is not being shown on the field. Defense I'd say giving more effort, but Offense is an absolute embarrassment watching.
  20. Looked it up, 1st play from scrimmage vs Seattle. Before that Id have to look.
  21. 1st possession 2nd half 2runs to end that drive by Jonea. Next 3 drives now He has 0 touches. Im not even sure he's been on the field 1play? Certainly not these last 2possessions. Feels like the Cardinals are playing with 13on defense. Pass rush every pass play. Stuff the run. There's no WR open for Aaron yet?
  22. This is not a sub 3.5ERA guy. He's a Sub 3ERA Ace. For Hiura this is who you trade him for. It'd cost some pitching too. Id try Davies or Woodruff. Plus a guylike Ponce. Talk about injury history and not wanting to part with Hiura, when Hiura has a history of recent himself. I wouldnt regret the loss for Thor. He's one of maybe 10guys you say that for. Nothing like Quintana or Gray trade proposal risk involved. He is a top ten SP in all of Baseball
  23. Most embarrassing loss I can think of late was the Conference Championship game vs Ohio State with their 3rd string QB demolishing what great a defense we thought we had. I thought we were shutout as well. But I probably remember wrong. Its a game I'd rather forget because it was embarrassing
  24. McCarthy and another 4th down misstep. Collinsworth called him out for not even asking for a measurement! MM's mindset was all about this looming timeout and he cant even figure out to ask for one. Another thing, 4th&inches-QB sneak? This has been something I recall not in MM's playbook. Belichek with Brady? Everytime I watch them. They've got it so ingrained they rush to line &pull it off. But Baby McCarthy is whining to playclock rather than watching the QB sneak that should be an automatic. These situatio s where you are at 4down possible territory, how you dont see 2 immediate runs blows my mind. And yet Rodgers/McCarthy have blown countless timeouts on the situations. Spriggs is terrible/like all Indiana Football teams I can remember since the Badgers began winning Rose Bowls. 1st play and he whiffs horribly. Not the first time whiffing, but holy crap that has to be the NBA version of being posterized! He should be gone tomorrow like Mccarthy. The O-line has been awful for a long time now. The lack of addressing it is one of the biggest reasons I think the team hasnt returned to the Super Bowl. 0-6 on the road. It is looking like an 0-8 road season. When would be the last time the Packers did that?
  25. 2nd half-4 rush attempts. 18yard gain (the first rush attempt) brought back. Best RB since Green, and you continue to avoid using him. McCarthy doesnt coach a team game, he only knows that Aaron Rodgers has saved his Ijob/butt that pass calling has to be only way to go. Edit add, maybe that's why youre 0-5 on the road. Ground and pound keep the crowd noise down, run clock.
