  1. Maybe with 1inning stints his bbs would decrease. Same with Nelson if he moved to pen. Just based on the two's first time through the order vs beyond. Just seems the logical move to make by now
  2. Not sure, but their top picks have been pretty putrid: [pre]YEAR PCK PLAYER POS WAR ---- --- ------ --- --- 2006 16 Jeremy Jeffress RHP 4.0 2007 7 Matt LaPorta 1B -0.9 2008 16 Brett Lawrie 3B 15.4 2009 26 Eric Arnett RHP 2010 14 Dylan Covey RHP -0.7 2011 12 Taylor Jungmann RHP 1.1 2012 27 Clint Coulter C 2014 12 Kodi Medeiros LHP 2015 15 Trent Clark OF 2016 5 Corey Ray OF[/pre] I can elaborate more in my question. Im looking for top 30 selections signed by teams. And the performance for the team who drafted the player, or if traded like Jeffress & Lawrie the WAR return the year following. You would include Roache and Bradley since they were top 30 selections. But knowing what those did It would seem to me the Brewers havent gotten more than 5WAR out of 1st round picks since Braun.if my computer worked Id be able to dig more in to this. But Im only with a phone and cant research this. Pretty much the WAR since Braun is only in the form of Marcum via Lawrie trade. I dont even recall if Jeffress was traded?
  3. With most of the Brewer starters struggling to go 6 IP. You tend to forget the Bullpen is often pitching 3 plus innings. Giving up 1 run is a 3ERA or less. You remember the runs that are given up because its late in game and often important. Or maybe being 11th isnt actually good, its just so many teams are bad. So many new Pitchers struggling to go 5 innings. Remeber hype of Tyler Glasnow? Didnt go 3ip last night. A lot of outs for a bullpen. Put your junk multi inning pitcher in a not close game. Stuff like that.
  4. Lets trade out rarity of .800Ops+ OFs for a possible TOR pitcher who we now provide .700+ [hopefully] OFs to provide no run support? Broxton and Santana have elite exit velocity on balls batted in play. Thinking .800-825 OPS is their tops at this early stage is foolish. Given more time these two have a better chance to be .900+ ops. Im just not a fan to trade some of these guys producing success in years 1/2 in their baseball careers with stats like that that can support a major increase witha subtle iimprovement. You Have the bodies you cross your fingers and hope become in the minors. Lets trade away 4+ years of team control in that for a new Hopes become in the majors? Id rather trade those depth for a proven SP or that hoping prospect. If fails you can still trade Broxton or Santana 4years from now for darn near the same trade acquisitions we're seeking here now. I mean think. We're in a rebuild. These two/3 with Villar ,4&5 with Bandy/Pina, 6 with Shaw etc., etc., these are Rebuild acquired guys who are producing better than expected. Why trade that away for guys who may turn out to be bums? If these guys had 1 or 2 years remaining team control thoughts of this make sense. 1 you know and they will know what to likely expect. Not an .800ops guy in 2nd year who's numbers can be questioned either way for worse or better. Only to get a bum and trade off a Perrenial All Star? At this point if Im trading these guys its for another 1st-3rd year proving/improving player that impacts your team the way they do. Julio Urias type skills with control like we're giving up.
  5. Keeper League? Or just yearly? Hows the Keeper rules if so?
  6. Yes Brew4u but that was 1 pitcher and thus why I say another in the deal. BA updated their top 100 Brinson is at 20 ortiz and woodruff I think were 73/74. I don't know I just feel Brinson, like Ray will provide nice numbers, but nothing elite in any single tool. Sure both may touch .300 but .340s OB with that number. 20HRs sure. 15-20 sbs sure. Its solid but the Brewers had and have OFs who have that potential with a higher tool in some category. Id just prefer to take a stab in the dark with a pitcher over a redundant OF. Back on Braun. Since his 1st rd draft pick. If you take the top 30 selections since, would the Brewers rank dead last in WAR from their selections vs the other MLB teams?
  7. So I guess by your logic, Stearns would not have acquired OF Lewis Brinson via trade last July, since the Brewers already had Braun, Santana, Broxton, BPhillips, CRay, TClark, MHarrison, DOrimoloye, MReed, TTaylor, KWren. To be fair, Braun would have been up for the trade deadline & or the August waiver trades. So Brinson could slide in to the starting role if had happen. Im not happy with Brinson trade. Should have gotten another pitcher
  8. If thats the case, my fantasy writer on Harvey was wrong. Stating his velocity was the same as in past
  9. Harvey was an Ace before TJ. Having his numbers dwindle while still pitching with the same FB velocity isnt decreasing his value to a Clint Coulter. Maybe Coulter would be the 3rd piece. Id guess Dubon, Lopez, Coulter wouldnt be enough to get Harvey. Corey Ray, Dubon, and Lopez would probably be able to sell for Harvey living off of Ray's 5th pick before he drops below a top 20 Brewers prospect the end of this season.
  10. Any talk of Calhoun being a part of the return for Braun would make me puke. First he'd be #5 in the 2b order behind Villar, Diaz, Dubon, and Perez. So you had better have a 3rd team involved having a use for Calhoun because Milw does not unless a number of Brewers died.
  11. I dont see Peralta gaining value with a bullpen stint. Say he does under 3ERA while in it. The price he's paid makes him a non-tender next season. So Peralta is a rental. His days are numbered as a SP at the ML level. Thats really why Nelson needs to be the moved to bullpen. His value with upcoming Arb lowers, but his trade valuewith the same kind of performance would bring back more. To point the innings restriction on Woodruff. If he comes out dealing to begin his career the chances for a Brewers post season increase a lot. Just as the post season would begin hehe'd be done on the limit limely a week or 2 earlier. I just feel you need to lower his IP by 25IP in the bullpen vs starting to be ready in that scenario to keep him Starting in the post season. If it doesnt work out he's not reaching his limitations with 2weeks to go and can finish in the 180s which is enough to make the Starter full season next year. Id think 1month send him down to stretch out and call up again right after AS game would do it.
  12. Currently in out of this game, the Brewers have put 7 batters above .800 OPS. And 6 of the 7 arent a surprise. Perez I am surprised overall. What would be the Brewers all time highest amount of .800+ OPS batters with say 400PAs or more end of the season
  13. The toughest thing for Milwaukee will be getting through the season. Woodruff's start will require him to move to the bullpen at some point. Hader obviously too. Lopez must be option 1 right now if replacing Milwaukee's rotation beyond spot starts. Id like to see him called up with Nelson or Peralta sent down for Bullpen. Maybe you can find Woodruff in the bullpen to begin shortening his innings for 10 to 20games then replace him with Nelson or Peralta whomever you sent down. Let him work on starting again for mid to late July.
  14. First Roache, now Kirby. Id expect the team to lay off injured draft selections in first 4rounds for awhile.
  15. Weird there is no financial details announced. I would assume an 18 year old in Mexico’s top league gets some bonus and his team put some value on purchasing his contract. Could the international bonus slot acquired from Baltimore be why and what is paid to this player? Thus signing him before this period began counts towards 16's period.
  16. Stearns hangs up on that proposal. The Dodgers need to go big when dealing for Braun. I dont care if Brauns contract is at value for the regular season. What bat do the Dodgers have who smashes LHP, and overall a .900 OPS game changer Game 1 of every playoff series they reach? This Franchise has spent over a billion w/o a WS to show for it. The idea to send 10, 15, 20million just not a bargaining chip honestly. LA would make that money with 1 World Series appearance. Nevermind if they get there another time. LA can waltz in to the playoffs with the Giants falter. They gotta decide if sitting with their roster will beat the other Playoff team or can a Bat of Brauns lead them through the Playoffs. The history is there he can. That is the biggest factor in Stearns valuation on Braun and asking for a high return. What are teams trading for? A to be a team to make the playoffs. Or B. Cubs acquiring Chapman to be a team to win the World Series. The Dodgers are B. They dont need help to make the postseason via trade. They need help strictly to get to the World Series.
  17. Nelsons numbers first time through a batting order compared to after is just screaming bullpen. That'd be Elite numbers right there and needs to be done. Maybe this move happens when Guerra returns. Wasting away Woodruffs arm.
  18. Terrible pick. To Think Brinson came just after and Joey Gallo wasn't far behind. So many of the players the Brewers could have drafted and instead are now trading for because theirs will never amount to anything.
  19. Koenig being left off the combine isn't that huge of a hit on him. He just doesn't have a NBA future ahead of him. The guy scrapes around barely near 40% shooting for his College career. He brings nothing to the defensive end. Just no way a team takes him in the draft.
  20. Cincy has been lucky in the Pitching faced. Running in to #3,4,5 in a lot of series especially Pittsburgh who've they've dominated due. They will continue to fall down the standings. Their record is no where near their actual talent. St. Louis has the best young pitching to work with an old Ace. Martinez, Wainwright, Wacha, and Lynn are studs that will win them many games if their offense can keep up. Pittsburgh is suffering through the Marte suspension and McCutchen slide. Slow beginnings to Josh Bell and Tyler Glasnow. They are a better team than their record and Marte returns mid season will add a lot to that team. Cubs. They are finding out the mistake that it is to have Lackey Starting and signing Brett Anderson to start. Then you have Arrieta and Hendriks regressing their numbers that were just silly for 2016. The Cubs will have to address a SP in the deadline. Still their overall Bats on the field with trio of Lester, Arrieta, and Hendriks make them too talented to lose as often as they've had. Chicago got Pittsburgh's top 3 starters unlike the Reds thus their 2-4 record against. And then you have us. Living off of Thames start vs Reds. The catchers duo outperforming any Catcher in baseball. The bats in our lineup have thus been outstanding with everyone contributing in the HR department scoring runs. There is more in the tank for 4 guys and you just know there are all going to go through a stretch that no team wants to face during. We are outscoring bad pitching. This will all change when a team starts playing .650 baseball and a team or two starts playing .450 baseball. With the others sticking around .500. Put it this way. Thames has as many HRs as Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo combined. The Cubs will hit more HRs too talented not to.
  21. If you are paying more than 2million, you ought to be picking up a late 1st rd early 2nd rd talent. I find the oidea really poor that money needs to be involved in a trade. Maybe if he's traded before the month of June. But otherwise, youre talking less than 6million to pay for his starts down the stretch, and only 5mil option for next season. I'll wait for more starts out of him with solid lines before I even get an inkling teams are going to inquire on him. There is on fact with Garza and that is DL stints. Hes very risky for a team to look at him to acquire and think he's going to be there for post season. I'd expect him to be an August Trade via Waivers if hes still taking the mound.
  22. I seen somewhat from the 7th inning til end. I thought to myself, are there even 14,000 fans there? You mean the greatest fans on Earth dont come to Monday games? Or are they already seeing a reduction of fans because their team has no hope at winning the central the next dozen or so years?
  23. My thoughts to the Shaw hater Im sorry you lost whatever hundreds you gambled for the Cardinals to win and lost due to Shaw, so you're venting to that loss. Shaw has won us more games already than what an avg 3b would win for this team. His bat has improved the lineup so much bringing a lefty bat behind Braun. Maybe Stearns acauired Shaw because Middlebrooks and Cecchini were so worthless to roster. A 3b was needed. Tanking as the term goes is great except when 3-4 teams are tanking on the season as well to draft top 5. I want to say last season or the year before a cpl teams were losing 10+ in a row down the stretch.
  24. Milone has a career 4.14 ERA as a starter. He's had success before, and was worthy of a look. It didn't work out, and we've moved on. It's nice to have worthwhile relievers available at AAA like Scahill. Millone soft tosses up their and his Change over the years has increased in velocity. When your 88/79 there's a difference. When your 88/81.5 you're not making as much of a difference in speeds that are already slow. Marco Estrada it's 89 and below 78. Davies sits 89-90/ 78.5-79. Just not bringing it like he did his 1st 2 seasons. Where half his IP come from. 4 and 5years ago. It's about time this is addressed. I hope Stearns addresses the Pitching within every 20games. There are options a plenty in AA/AAA and sticking with garbage isn't necessary.
  25. Yep Call up Hader because CO Springs only regresses pitchers. Look at how long it took Lopez to get back to normal. He's back to a 4:30 bb/k in 5 starts. Woodruff is succeeding in AAA thus far, but like I said that place is regressing pitchers, the longer he remains, and when the hits/runs and walks start tallying up the further back we are pushing him. Hader likewise who's already doing poorly at giving up walks. They are prospects with options. Calling them up today doesn't mean they are forever a ML pitcher never to see minors again. But, if they turn out to be real legit from day 1 Pitchers you're not wasting your time sending out Wily, Nelson, and Davies to be #5s on an offense that's scoring top 5 in all of Baseball. This isn't a minors system devoid of Pitching after those 3 names. There are only so many 40man spots to hold on to them all or we'll lose another Miguel Diaz because we want to trot out #5s and crap bullpen types before we start the clocks on more deserving. If they look like a duck, walk like a duck, quack like duck, these ML Pitchers are ducks. 1month in is 1/6 of the expected Games started. With multiples seasons to go off of in performance with Wily and Nelson they aren't about to improve unless they come up with a better secondary pitch or location of Fastballs. Something they can't work on at the Major League level in games. Nelson is at an Ace Level his 1st time through an order. After that he's garbage. Wily isn't as elite the 1st time through, but he's still pretty close to garbage after that. When you have a problem with your bullpen, and the starting pitching, with the answer directly in front of your eyes? How'd that turn out for Thornburg and Smith? What happened when we traded those two? Let's get Nelson and Wily to that level where they can actually return something vs. the nothing of value they possess now.
