  1. I'd certainly re-sign Nelson after '18 unless he falls off a cliff in production. Overall talent, he's head and shoulders above any of the WRs on the team currently. They are what I'd think Nelson, if falling off a cliff in production, becomes. Cobb is certainly the most disappointing of the group. His undersized and speed seem to have caught up to him. Or Coach MM just doesn't install him in to the playcalling like previously. It's was like once every other game it would seem the team would put a drive on Cobb's shoulders, playcalling 3-5 plays on a successful drive. Then nothing come next possession. Allison seemed to do well if he were put in the #2 or slot role. Adding these TE's, just no way do we really need a true address to WR. Do it next draft. Any kind of #2/slot talent will look like #1s and 2s because of Rodgers. For the most part, WRs don't need a multiple years to suddenly be an everyday starter. Learn the playbook, run the routes and Rodgers will do the rest. Find the defensive players. Because if Randall and Rollins revert more to their play 2 years back vs last year, and you find another everyday CB or Safety and some LB or DE the defense can climb in ability very quickly.(should they stay healthy which seems to never happen longer than 4 games if not just 2)
  2. And as he may decline, his contract dollars decline after 2018. 1 and then 2 million more. One thing that will never decline is inflation and average dollars paid to MLB players. After 2018 his 19million may be below what a QO goes for. Which is based on avg of top 125 paid players. Oh 17million for 2020 is like 15.5mil in today's dollars. 17mil today would be about 18.6million in 2020 for the same type of salaried player. And I don't believe MLB's salary figures follow the typical 3% inflation. Let's try 5% even though it's likely higher. Braun's 17mil would be what a 14.6mil player today makes. Meanwhile paying a 17million type of player today would cost 19.7million to sign for 2020. The QO of 16/17 was 17.2mil It was originally for 2012/13 for 13.3mil. 13/14 for 14.1 14/15 for 15.3mil 15/16 15.8 That history is 6%, 8.5%, 3.2%, and 8.8% overall a 29.3% increase 4years later. If you repeat the first three years the QO becomes 20.4million for 19/20. When Braun is paid 17million. So while he may decrease with age, so is that contract. Taking the 17.2mil player today becomes a 20.4million player roughly in 2020. If 1 WAR is worth approx 7.7mil today, Braun will only need to produce about 2WAR under actually to be worth his contract in 2020. Whether he maintains above 2WAR like his history easily show, if he drops to between 1-2WAR he will be pretty close to earning his contract, even how ridiculous 17million sounds to us. There will be 40million per being paid to someone out there for 2020, probably multiple someones. Just some numbers out there for you since baseball is a deeply routed by the numbers game of statistics.
  3. The fact that the Padres are a bad rebuilding club with no chance to contend in the West and zero need for a 19M a year 33 year old veteran outfielder. But other than that, what? Well the fact that their top prospects are the solutions today for CF and RF. You want to start a trade with Cal Quantrill? Or we go that route where we take real projects for prospects because we need to acquire more depth in the minors while trading a HoF type of player. Since you're pushing for a San Diego trade, what is the offer you would expect they'd give in return for Braun?
  4. And there's Perez who I'd assume by looking poor as well makes Arcia the SS starter. Perez was never really a challenger for anything other than 3rd, til we traded for Shaw. He needs to learn how to take a walk though if he's ever going to be more than a utility infielder. Just stating, the backup for Arcia at this point isn't a better option just await for him to come around.
  5. And there's Perez who I'd assume by looking poor as well makes Arcia the SS starter.
  6. Seeing Wily's pitch count at 92 through 5, doubtful he goes through a full 6th inning may even be PH this half of the inning. That will be 2 QS in 8games. Nobody pitching the 7th inning yet. Going to wear out the bullpen early and often this season needing at least 9outs to get through the games. Oh yeah this is AL game
  7. Yoenis Cespedes has 3 HRs vs Philly only 6th inning
  8. 2 guesses. Joe Carter or Vlad the Impaler. Well there goes a Montreal player thinking of. I see I'm wrong on Carter. He's not 1st but hard to believe Adam Lind is #9. It is Frank Thomas Not what I seen. Oh, you meant overall not just for the team itself Man I never knew Frank Thomas played for Toronto
  9. 2 guesses. Joe Carter or Vlad the Impaler. Well there goes a Montreal player thinking of. I see I'm wrong on Carter. He's not 1st but hard to believe Adam Lind is #9.
  10. Yes! HR/SB for Broxton first 2 PAs. My fantasy team is looking forward to this kind of production!
  11. I have no clue and I think my guess was Montreal related now that I think of it. I'll throw David Cone, Pat Hentgen, Roger Clemens? You technically got it, Hentgen 96, Clemens 97 and 98. Nice pull on Pat Hentgen Nice! I thought of Hentgen first at least as a Blue Jay. I had Cliff Lee in my head, but checking it was Roy Holladay I was trying to think of.

  13. Well there are negatives and positives between AL and NL. AL the 33starts he gets, maybe 2-4 occur in NL parks and he can bat those same days. Then you can bat him at DH. NL every start except when made in an AL park he can bat that day. He'd also be a PH batter every game. Now will his bat be DH worthy to play every game he doesn't start? On a daily he'd be max around 130 games of PAs. Which by a multiple of 4 would be 520 PAs. With say 30NL starts and 3.3PAs a game you are looking at 100PAs. Add 130 PH PAs and now he's at 230PAs. If you manage him to not pitch at AL parks and bat him DH when @ AL games are involved, that for 2017 is 10games at 4PAs adds 40 or 270PAs. Would that be enough? Does he need the 250PAs extra between the leagues? Wear and Tear. An AL team doesn't start him before every start of games. You are looking 120PAs less. I'd expect any team wouldn't leave him at DH as a batter the day before a Game Started. He gets injured during that game and you are left scrambling for a SP in under 12-20hours. What's his desire? To Pitch and Hit in the same games? Or does he only want to focus on Pitching one game, and batting one game, never both in the same game? That would immediately put an answer what League would have the green light to try signing him.

  15. Exactly and your talking about 3 deserving prospects to pass on 2-3 starts to. At some point without moving two of the starting 6 their clock reverts in regards to days at time goes by and they are still in the Minors. Oh and it's only 1 or 3 getting this look. Say spot 5 opens at some point during the season right around the Super 2 cutoff, You don't have to call up the guy who got 1-3starts. Say you gave Woodruff the 3 starts, by the time late June comes around, Lopez or Hader, 1 of them are likely to be outperforming Woodruff in the minors. You call 1 of those 2 up then, save for October to call up the trio or 2 of the trio. We're within the first 10 days so maybe that has to do with how the spot start with Milone wound up occurring. Anxious to see how they do #1's turn the next time it comes up.
  16. 1. This team looks like it'll be pretty bad. Take the under on 70 wins. Overreaction. 29runs in 7games with the strugglers. Gas Cans being used at pitching that are addressed before this season ends 2. Perez was a one year wonder who hit his ceiling last year. Truth. Doesn't have good ABs to think he can reproduce last year's stats with less playing time Candidate for 1st traded. 3. Broxton's 2nd half 2016 was a fluke, we wont see that player again. Overreaction. I mean come on he's been hit in the face and sat two games. Maybe not putting up 2nd half stats, but better overall stats than what he finished with for 2016. 4. Aguilar should get as many ABs as Thames this year. C- Neither. Thames possesses the Lefty bat in a platoon which makes his Game playing time more often. At the same time I want Aguilar to get as many plate appearances as there is for him available. 5. Peralta, Nelson, and Anderson will all be better than Davies this year. OverReaction I think it was very bad strategy to put Milone in a game that also featured Suter, and follow the game up with Davies. You're giving that team multiple looks at upper 80s who was more prepared for Davies' start than Davies was for no lower strikezone. 6. This team will break the all time MLB strikeout record of 1543 - set by the 2016 Brewers. Overreaction This is a better offensive team than last year's. But it's very young in PA's. They'll improve as the year moves along. 7. Villar will never play passably well anywhere in the IF. Overreaction. He's less experienced at 2b and MLB overall. He missed much of the Spring for the WBC and noted he didn't get the starts. You can say he's a mental midget, so if true, being behind on Spring ABs and on Defense at 2b would really put him behind schedule that he's on the learning timeclock.
  17. W/o quoting your prior comment responding on low payroll so to spend more. We've put an assumption that some of those savings on payroll is what allowed and provided the funding for the food upgrade experience. As to Padres and Atlanta i dont believe they could be tied to a top stud as multiple penalized teams are limited to only 300k maximum sign for this year. The teams that were penalized for 2016 are also penalized for 2018. If youre a top stud, you wouldnt take 300k when teams could offer from 4.75million up to 10million if the 5.75mil teams traded for that 75% from other teams' slots. It'll be fascinating how Milw does since they'll have 5.25 or 5.75mil allotted to them, which is more than the around 3mil allotted the year they signed Lara. I think theres something like 14teams on penalty this year for300k limit. You'd assume Milw can land a top 10 ranked with their money and other teams penalties. If not 2...... (Maybe they'll sit back and Otani comes available to sign for this period, but not til months after July's draft.)
  18. Thanks Colby with the response and info. seemed a lot of names atop the top 10. For this draft class are they calling it say like a top heavy talent like 2005? Is it deep in talent? Or talented onlynear the top and fizzles out towards end of 1st rd? Which of the recent years of drafts would it compare to?
  19. Because it's against the rules, and if MLB found out there was a pre-arranged agreement then everyone would be screwed. And if this could be done by Milwaukee, what stops the Yankees or the Angels or whomever from just making it a $100M 'wink wink' contract? He's a completely different signing than what generally happens during the International signing period. He'd be 23 which with the new rules he is now 2 years too young to be considered a FA not tied to the International Draft Pools. Prior to the new deal, he would have been allowed to sign. There's gotta be some kind of compromise with making a deal with Otani. Yu Darvish at 25 signed for 6/60million...after a 51.7mil bid posting to negotiate a deal. That's nearly 92mil for 6years. Otani isn't going to be a minor league addition. He'll be primed to start from day 1 at the Major League level. MLB could look at adding Japan's "Babe Ruth" to ML play come 2018 or Otani can change his mind and decide he'll wait for age 25 when he can be signed away for like Darvish, 10mil and likely more per season. MLB and Otani are literally screwed by the new rules. So what are the penalties? Tax types? Losing a draft pick or the international signing period for a season like what occured with Boston? What franchise would really care if they get a new version of Babe Ruth? I agree in the sense then what stops the Yankees? from say dumping 100million, heck 250million to sign Otani? I don't know, but why?, once he's started ML games would the team not be able to negotiate a contract for his 6/7 years of team control? Or extended 1-3 more years beyond? Evan Longoria was signed after just 6 ML games to a deal with Tampa. Was that against the rules? Taken from ESPN article on Longoria's deal: Talks between the sides started in early March, and many of the contract details had been agreed upon on April 11, one day before Longoria came up to the Rays. So they hashed out a deal pretty much before he even played 1 game for them. If Otani is going to be a starter from day 1, what is wrong in a team creating an agreed upon deal days after his 1st start? It's a wild dream for the Brewers to consider themselves any possible chance to be one of the final teams Otani and his group will decide upon. But this is an open discussion like there is a chance.
  20. Off the top of my head Robert Osuna, Vlad Jr. have worked out pretty well so far for the Blue Jays Bruce Rondon, Jose Iglesias maybe; ok the Tigers havent had much success Obviously Sano and Max Kepler seemed to work out ok for Minnesota. Seattle got its franchise player in King Felix. Freddy Peralta is probably a better prospect than anything we've signed since Arcia. Arcia and Wily Peralta (and Miguel Diaz, maybe ) is still something. So essentially an equal amount of talent acquired by the 5 teams. 2 each per team, and oh adding Diaz means we've got 3 to lay claim to or more than those teams. Sano and Kepler I'm reading both signed in 2009. Sano happened to lose a higher payday due to suggestions that he was older than 16 and a deal with Pittsburgh deteriorated. Vlad Jr is just beginning his 18yr. old season. You want to qualify him, then Lara, Pierre, and Mallen need to be added as successful International signings for Milwaukee. Maybe I'll delve in to this deeper and come up with something else to post. But I think Texas began the ignoring Limits some years back, and it became a free-for all when it was noticed how well it worked for their system. Just go ahead and blow 30+million on under 18year-olds.
  21. Taken from Baseball America: The rules also raise the signing age for players to be exempt from the bonus pools. The rules had been that international players were exempt from the bonus pools if they were at least 23 with five or more seasons of experience in a foreign professional league, like Serie Nacional in Cuba. Now players must be at least 25 with six seasons in a foreign professiona. league to be exempt. While those rules most commonly come in to play for Cuban players, the rules encompass all international players, including foreign professionals in Japan and Korea. So He wouldnt fit the age where he's signing a FA deal outside the international pool. I dont understand why, if you signed him, he wouldnt just go to the 6years team control. You would figure he could start from Game 1 and be Arb eligible after 3seasons. Sure you could sit him to gain a 7th year, but if Im him thats a deal breaker. So the max he could sign for would be 10.1million approx. Arbitration would be completely different than anything that has been decided, nbecause his playing both pitcher batter. Now the question is, how long would he have to wait before you signed an extension? So while hes limited what he can get come July signing period. Couldnt a team essentially give him a ML contract after he's Played a few games? "Buying out his team control"? You could via that idea, come to an agreement to a 7year deal. Sorta prearranged. So taking Milwaukee for 2018, Otani gets a 10mil July Deal. And by Mid July he's pitching for the team? Wait to the offseason and sign him 6years 65million? So in truth he's gotten a 7year/75million deal? You hash somthing like this out when recruiting him. How does MLB stop something like that?
  22. $5.25 Million Cincinnati Reds* Miami Marlins Milwaukee Brewers Minnesota Twins Oakland Athletics* Tampa Bay Rays Teams with the Asterisk cant sign for more than 300k. The rumors posted Otani would be allowed to leave his team after this season. So that should mean he would sign in the 2018-19 period. So this list above would have 5.75million plus up to 75% more if acquireing other team's slots. So there's that for incentive on luring Otani here. While it may not be about the money to him, there are 5teams that could give nearly 1million more than the 5.25mil teams who are on the opposite end of competitive balance. And 1.75million more than every other team then after. Best news is he won't be a Cardinal. Reds too. As they're part of the 7teams who wont be able to sign higher than 300k next year. Hard part is offering him the Plate Appearances that Tampa or Minnesota can offer with the DH. Now, I dont know if Otani would be allowed to sign immediately after the season and available then to this upcoming signing period. Usually thats tied to age? That I dont know if he old enough to that exception. but, if that became so, there are a lot more teams then restricted to 300k max. That scenario increase our odds, but we are in that 2nd level of max we can offer vs one of the maxxed teams for 18.
  23. So how's this draft class doing? Experts? Far too long between posts in this thread! What? 2months away?
  24. Well we did get in on Lara in 14. When you have big markets blowing through their allotments you gotta understand 16yr olds and you want to pay 10mil+ for these teens? Lara is yet to make signing #3 rank of '14 a good looking signing. Now we'll have more to spend on a little more level playing ground. With these caps and you take 10teams scouting you and your choices include LA, Chi, Mia, Tex, NY, and Milw I'd imagine theres not much knowledge to these kids about Milwaukee. Parents and family, theres gotta be some geographical influence when say 3 teams want to offer you what your asking for. How have Toronto, Detroit, Minnesota, and Seattle fared with international signings?
  25. I agree in the fact that Goforth was called up for a multiple Inn role. Its not like the bullpen isnt already pushing on the overuse to this point. Plus theres the, what was the usage of the guys to chose on a call up? Some say Scahill should got his chance, well did he pitch Friday or Saturday? Starting the season at home 7days when you have a roof, means none will be cancelled. Meanwhile, I want to say St. Louis, Pitts, Cubs to name a few experienced a suspended game. And a few teams had a day off. So early on Milw and Counsell are dealing with SP pitch counts, added bullpen use, and no days off for 7games. #1 starter down after a few innings, 1 extra inning game. Probably need to give some roster decisions a break, after this 1st week's events
