  1. The way I read play Rogers almost seems to me to expect him DFA in the near future. Really have a hard time ignoring a Clark/Rogers platoon that seems so right to answer cheap 1b options. Yet, we aren't headed that way. The team is "scouring" 1b options. I guess Santana isn't in the mix for consideration. 1b+CF. Where does he play? Davis+Braun are locks. I feel like right now Mark A is seeing this overall Payroll and pushing Stearns to find a FA signing to bump it up some. 55mil is probably almost what the team receives between tv revenue and revenue sharing. Probably just feel better of mind if it got to 65mil. I'd play Clark/Rogers. My guess is somebody from this list isn't signed by the start of the season. Only given a minor league contract to opt out of. Well if those 2 can't make a pleasing duo come May. There's your signing
  2. That is such a joke. Urias sounds like future Jose Fernandez. There are maybe 2teams that could offer Urias Ceiling talent? None that can offer Seagers talent? Personally, Heyward signing with the Cubs Gives me the impression they could put a package together to acquire Fernandez. Almora at CF, Shwarber 1b, Baez 2b/ss, CJ Edwards currently a Swingman type.
  3. Wow, that stat seems almost impossible. How often do position players GDP more than they BBs? The statement is absolutely right, he has terrible approach for at bats.Maybe Walsh on the roster will be the batting coach Gennett, Davis, and Segues need to learn how to approach at bats better. For as many walks that guy had last year, he must be a semi genius on guessing the pitches he's about to see from the pitcher. Transfer some of that knowledge, rub off on these guys. Back to Segura. I'd fathom the Cy Sneed for Villar being relative value of what Segura is. If a team desires him vs Stearns calling and offering Segura.
  4. This signing to me, puts Jose Fernandez within reach to acquire. Schwarber+ from the Cubs. That to me would be a game changer. Otherwise I don't understand this signing whatsoever. You didn't need this player as much as you needed an Impact Pitcher.
  5. Herrera carries plenty of projection, but as a 17-year-old with one season in the Dominican Summer League he has a long way to go. A skinny 6-foot-3, 170-pounder, Herrera has a promising high-80s-to-low-90s fastball and has shown the ability to spin a curveball. Certainly not small nor soft tossing at 17. If he's touching low 90s at 17 with his height, I wouldn't put it out of him to reach 100s in a year or 2. Mid 90s for sure.
  6. Except Lind is Lefty and the odds are Seattle faces 77-83% RHP starters. Lind got 112PAs vs LH Pitchers last season. A weakness, that as being said he will be platooned with Seattle. So now Lind facing just RHP will only get Positive value as a batter and not get negative value when he's facing 20% of his PAs vs what he's weak against. He'll probably jump to 3.5-4WAR in value with just his RHP numbers. Seattle is obviously looking to compete and won't, like the Brewers of last season, start him vs LHP. Injury not included to the Platoon partner. It's underwhelming in return because none of the return has a clear shot of ML ability. I think LouisEly gave that 7mil or so was the value of 1WAR. Lind at 3.0 last season is of 21mil based on that theory. He's a 3WAR likely batter being paid 8mil. Just the 13mil in the value saved should net a ML type of talent.(Garza's price) Gallardo to me had less value than Lind. And I fully expect Lind to get a QO from Seattle after the season. Unlike Gallardo to my amazement. We already had 2 ML players in Gallardo's trade with the Lottery ticket in Diplan. All we got was lottery tickets and no ML players. If the experts were blurbing Zunino/Peterson being in/out in trade discussions, it means Zunino was mouthed at one point by someone to be denied it. Suddenly going from Zunino to trio among no one's top 30? Again, I will be watching Herrera's numbers as he grows, because his size/velocity and curveball development could make him an elite get for the Brewers franchise. 4years to find this out. At his age and size one very good year to turn special could occur.
  7. Herrera is the obvious drool on headliner in this deal. 6'3" at age of 17. Guy may still grow to 6-4 to 6-8 wouldn't surprise me. Pretty solid he has 80IP in the League he was in. At 17 you could expect a rise to 110 in the next year. 140 the year after and be in the 170s by age 19/20. The other 2, I'm not going to lay a lot on. Age 19 and low ranking doesn't give much hope to turn in to something truly meaningful. You'd expect at 19 to have some status of potential vs being rather unknown. Herrera is a 2years to 3 years away to determine this trade's success. At this point it's going to be a big letdown.
  8. Swanson and Blair should have been enough to complete a trade for Miller. Incierte is the complete overpay. How does a team trade away their #1 draft choice the same year they made it? For Shelby Miller. Who imo is a better command Wily Peralta only. What a mistake on a pitcher that to me has more chance to be just a #3 vs the #2 he was in Atlanta. A split of 2.43 in Atl and 3.67 away. Yeah Not what I'd want to acquire. for Swanson. or Blair.
  9. About Peterson's prospect ranking. Remember 10 of the top 15 in a draft will typically just rate in a top 100. Peterson being a #12 at a barron 3b prospect market when drafted, yeah easy for people to rank him around 50. Then in the 80s. Then gone from ever being ranked. I question why he played in only 97games in the minors last year after 123 the year before. Injuries? Could that maybe explain a drop in his numbers? I'd be upset if the Brewers didn't get another piece besides Peterson.
  10. Lets proceed like this. Lind is traded. Braun isn't your 1b of the future, but Santana and thus the CF search Stearns is after. As to Seattle matching up, Didn't Seattle have a coveted 2b/SS trio to peg from end of 2014 to early 2015? Brad Miller was one. He was to be more of a 2b if I recall. I wouldn't mind him as part of the package. Some Pitcher in the deal or Zunino would be fine. Miller/Zunino for Lind. Theres a nice ceiling potential to pluck from potentially at positions of future need.
  11. But don't the Brewers already have Michael Reed, who could be pretty much that player, and who has the added benefit of already being on the 40-man roster? My feelings on CF. Santana and Reed combo. This Stearns want scares me because he's not sounding like he's going to accept a 70win type season this year. And ignoring the Reed, Taylor, Phillips within the organization to place in CF during this time of roughly 70wins. Hey lets add 4 wins, trade away one of our young assets and get a CF you desire? So is Stearns really the GM or Melvin? with his "other named title"
  12. Being a Partial Miami resident I have seen him play. He had himself a season 2seasons ago. Not this season. I don't like him at all. He's not special in the CF. 10SBs .311OB over his 3year career.... That isn't my type of CF I'm building. Why in a position you'd expect speed on the basepaths is this guy netting a 3.33SB avg per season? If he can't steal 20 in a season, I don't like his odds of covering a lot of field defensively. There's a reason Miami wants to rid of him, because his value is only going to decrease with each month he plays in the field. It'd be like suggesting Segura is a valuable SS. No way no how do not get this kid as a CF. Michael Reed will possess more talent to play CF moving forward than Ozuna.
  13. I feel like Gyorko is a Lawrie type personality. Too high the expectations, and not the right frame of mind to handle it. Suffer some injuries, don't live up anywhere near expectations. Very solid chance Gyorko's change of scenery propels him to his potential. This was the guy that was to take over for Chase Headley at 3b. Pushing him out as trade bait. Gyorko just may be the highest power bat now on the Cardinals if given the PAs and reach 25-35HRs in the season. Vs soft hitting Jay and 7.5mil? Padres were robbed. The infield is set up well in case of any injury now. Though SS, I wouldn't count on for long term Peralta injury. What will be the Padres Infield? Didn't they trade Alonzo too?
  14. Within the division I'm happy the Reds aren't getting Urias, Seager, or De Leon. if it means getting Holmes. I like Holmes too but he's no different to me than Cody Ponce's potential. For LA to only give up 2 prospects and not their 3 best is remarkable because giving Chapman a QO is going to happen. So then it's just 1 prospect given up. Peraza for Chapman and Holmes for QOpick. Not enough imo for Chapman.
  15. Or replace them with up and coming prospects. That team is incredibly loaded. They have such a strong core and enough stars they won't feel the need to ever blow prospects to compete. I am sure their system will be loaded by 2020 once again. Prime team to compete for a long long time. The International market will make sure that happens with how it's now abused by big market teams. This is another reason the Brewers will have a hard time competing, not just the vast difference in TV market revenue but the Cubs ability to go out spend 30some million plus tax and signing internationals. They can go sign Lackey, maybe Cueto yet, I wouldn't be surprised.
  16. As to LF troubles for the Padres. CF is really their big problem. Kemp and Myers should be your corner OFs. BJ upton can hold down CF with Myers and Hunter Renfroe probably just gets his shot after the team gets its 7th year of 6year team control. Yes, I'm not high on Segura but SS is the Padres Blackhole to fill. There's been talks previously of both Segura and then Sardinas. I'd expect of all likely trades to happen Segura to the Padres is the most likely. Maybe you can nab a young lower type of prospect with a higher ceiling like Enyel De Los Santos, Dinelson Lamet, or Jose Castillo. Padres got Margot in trade who's listed as a CF. He's only got AA experience but with Renfroe I wouldn't be surprised if the team played the hotter batter and let Myers/Upton at CF and keep the other in AAA. Doesn't leave a need in OF. Edit to respond: How much does Petco field play into his numbers being what they are? Seen the guy pitch. It helps but unlike Odrisamer Despaigne, He has pitching talent. For whatever reason, he's been awful vs AL teams. 3 worst ERA teams against 14Gms:25.2 49hits 38runs 13.33ERA. Remove those games He's at 3.18ERA for career. Those 3 teams are Red Sox, Orioles, and Rays.
  17. Which team is rebuilding and which team is building for a Playoff push? In any trade, I consider the team getting the best player overall to be the winner so long as the price isn't crazy. Ross, w/o a doubt is the best player in trade. Why do the Padres give up his talent for anything less than Arcia or Phillips to start a trade? And then if the Brewers are being forced to give up that type of prospect, why in a rebuild are they acquiring Ross? The idea is crude for both teams. As it's a sideways move with no plan for the future. I'd say the Brewers by far win because trading Ross midseason, next offseason, or next mid season will bring back a far better return than Davis/Segura...Unless the original trade involves Arcia or Phillips which you just don't do if you're Milw.
  18. I gotta say after the above comment.... If Chi wasn't preparing to sign Price or Grienke, Jumping the gun and signing a much weaker SP in Lester is a very bad GM call. Really, if you ask anyone, which pitcher do you more, Lester or Price,/or Lester or Grienke? They stuck themselves with the worst of the 3. Imagine Grienke+Arrieta?
  19. Tate or Ortiz alone are better package than any of the Dbacks suggestions.
  20. Not to forget the 1 or 5million option. So 3/31mil. And yes I expect Garza's option to get picked up. RPs will likely avg the 5mil for a FA signing. This is why I've been harping Garza's contract is a steal. There is so much time for him to regain trade value. That Option is golden when Garza can't kick it in himself at 13mil. And the demotion in September really makes it hard to believe Garza can.
  21. Wait, Lackey was sent a QO by the Cardinals? Wow does this division enjoy giving up 1st rd picks and giving Stl a comp pick.
  22. Food for thought If the Brewers tv revenue(worst in baseball I believe) is 20million and 2.5 times makes 50mil.... The Pirates likely the next worst revenue at 25mil X 2.5=62.5mil or 12.5mil more than Milw now and not 5mil. That's the imbalance. It's worse not the same. You get to say NY and a former tv deal of 150mil X 2.5 becomes 375million or 325million more than Milwaukee's jump to 50mil. Vs the 130million advantage it was previously. Revenue sharing isn't making up the Brewers 50mil to the Yankees 375million. In this fake sample. Maybe Milwaukee receives 50million to get to 100million but New York isn't being reduced 275million... 75 million maybe but top team in this example has gone from 120million base difference to 200million even after having more revenue taken away to prop Milw's up.
  23. CheezWiz I think you just answered yourself with Having way too much money to burn. This is the new way to buy WS championships. Acquire these types of hyped Internationals. You'll either find your studs to be or in a year or 3, you have your trade piece to use on getting that trade deadline player you seek. I'd assume the players also had similar offers from some other teams. Maybe you're staring at a sneaky way for the team to get in the good graces of the agent. And they sign a few 300k kids that would be 500k types. The agent doesnt take his share from the signings next year giving them the ability to sign that kid at 300k. Or the team has eyes on the 2018 potential signees and you're paying your way to divert the kid in to signing with LA. They have Money to burn, do whatever they want. Keep the team stockpiled for years to come and fan interest.
  24. Yovani Gallardo declined a 15.8mil QO from Texas. He'll now cost his signing team a draft pick plus salary....A SP that wasn't even a #4 at best in minds in 2013.
  25. Things to look at when rating O'Brien. He's 25. He's slow. He hasn't established a definitive defensive position yet, at this stage. He's probably more suited to be just a DH. There's a reason he's not in a top 100 prospect ranking. He's got power but that is all that can be counted on. Will he bat .190 or .275? He's obviously going to be a negative if played in the OF with his Catcher speed. You play him at 1b and .190-.240BA isn't solving that position even with 30-40HRs. unless it comes with a .350+OB. He's just got major bust potential to be reading him like he's of great trade value. Lamb will stick in MLB. O'Brien may just be a AAAA player and out of baseball within 5years. His ceiling to me is just Solid contributor.
