Link Report for Wednesday 8/12
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jim Goulart's topic in Brewers Minor League Talk
I've harped on Taylor's swing. Nearing the end of the season and it's produced 2HRs thus far. Looking at his numbers we're talking Jean Segura of this season stats. As your CF/4th OF? Thats at AA level. Taylor is very expendable. Anyway, I came here because I wanted to ask where have the HRs gone from Coulter? Didnt he have 9HRs in the first month? He's now at 11. Age 22 at A adv. .246BA This is terrible numbers by this guy. He could be marked as a non-prospect should this continue. He's nowhere close to fast tracking an "Advanced" bat to the Big Leagues. You would figure after that start he'd have advanced to AA by now. But instead Roache has advanced and is bypassing Coulter as the true prospect. Is Coulter playing through an injury? -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Excellent comparison. Cespedes is a career .269/.316/.471 hitter. Davis is a career .247/.313/.476 hitter. Cespedes is a better defender with a much better arm but Davis is cheap with years of control remaining, more than cancelling out Cespedes' defensive value. I'll throw out another comparison of a guy with a lot of team control and no defensive value. Evan Gattis got the Braves Mike Foltynewicz, Rio Ruiz and Andrew Thurman. But there's reason to suggest on Gattis he was Growing at the plate prior to that trade. His batting numbers were better than the season before with a BA of .263....at the ML avg(slightly above apparently) Davis's BA is lower for the 3rd straight year now. Now if he gets his average up to .260-.265 by season's end Evan Gattis is what you're looking at. But at .232 with a 2nd year reducing your BA, you're not trading Davis to be Gattis as your DH. Unless your options are fairly terrible. Such as Houston's after Santana and Singleton's brief look and Chris Carter struggling to bat much above .200 I don't get trading for Davis to be your DH if he's batting below .250 or under .800OPS. Adam Lind would be my target first over Davis if DH is the case. I didnt really consider the team control of years when comparing Davis to Cespedes. But again, I'm looking at numbers by Yoenis of .293 with 18HRs in 427PAs. In other words, being traded like Gattis as his value had to be at about it's peak. Davis doesn't apply to being traded at his peak currently. With a spurt through to the finish of the season maybe Davis approaches .250s and his value very well can be compared to Evan Gattis. He continues sputtering around low .230s his Defense is just not good enough to want to take him in for 20s in HRs while giving away any kind of future ML talent such as Santana. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Then you're evaluating Davis as I am. Having very little worth in a trade. I've read #4 and if things click maybe a #3 very little #2. He's #15 in the Brewers system of non #2s to begin with and he's not ranking ahead of the #3s so I'm going that his ranking reflects being a #4 until proven otherwise. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
No. No I am not trading Davis for Santana/Hader. I am trading Santana/Hader to acquire Davis. Got it? I use Davis and Santana because they fit exactly where the argument is in value for him in trade by "Homers" And not realistically speaking like myself suggesting Kyle Wren..sorry should be a tad higher, but who is that? I think everyone else is a full step up. I use Prospects in the Brewers system because I want to know it from the other side. If you were going to acquire Davis, what would you offer? I came up with the recent Santana and Hader acquisitions. So if the Brewers were to trade for Khris Davis, would you be happy to have sent Santana and Hader to acquire him? I say, no way. and Would argue Hader alone is too much for Davis. So tell me what is Davis' value in a trade? To me it certainly doesn't include a top 100 prospect as Santana and he's at #85 barely achieves that distinction. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Sorry if I didn't come away well, probably still wont. In the Davis should be traded thread, I said Davis would net us a Kyle Wren type return. To which I've heard he'd net at least 1 top 100 prospect plus in return. So Hypothetically, since Santana is a #85 prospect in baseball and Josh Hader being a #4 potential. I'm putting that trade then for Khris Davis together and wanting to know now is Khris Davis worth Santana and Hader? The Brewers just traded them to acquire Davis to play LF. Aren't you thrilled over this trade? Or did the Brewers Overpay to acquire Davis' HR bat and Defense in LF? It only cost a #85 prospect and a SP with #4 type regards. Surely the Brewers are better with Davis than parting with these 2? -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Are we thrilled with this move? Is the franchise better getting Davis for the next 4seasons giving up Santana and Hader? Mods I suggest keeping this it's own topic to discuss for next week before combining in to Davis thread. This is where I'm at in talking Davis is worth a top 100prospect+. So this trade just happened. Brewers win or lose? Would you honestly be happy giving away that package to acquire Davis? -
Gotta wait til the off-season with Garza. His trade market will be a lot bigger. And trades in August just don't seem to net much of anything than a outside a teams top 10prospect type in return. Garza to me is worth more than what he has provided thus far. Now the team wanted to move him and no one bit. Who wants a 5+era pitcher for the year your competing to be Champs with less than 70games left? Any Garza trade is with the future in mind, not this year's present. Save trading him when that future is 29other teams to involve and not 1-3.

Competitive Balance Lottery
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in MLB Draft & International Signings
It is based on the teams winning percentage the year before. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/26059392/ Those percentages are for getting the 1st pick it looks to be similar to how the NBA does it by giving each team a number of ping pong balls. Though the percentages only adds up to about 77%. Multiple teams with equal records at same pct chance. So 2@4.5 equal 9 3 at 8.9 equal 26.7 Your 100% figured out. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Why am I bringing it up? What other redeeming factor does Davis have to go by? Him having 20+ HR potential is it. So I bring it up. Davis' Slg pct is down to a little above .400. Coincides with less HRs. His stats don't cut it for a Corner OF barely achieving .700OPS. Gomez or Lucroy can speak up about defense on their down years. Davis cannot. And comparing Moss' year to Davis as Moss being worse, Moss went .777 last year(above Davis) .859 the year before and .954. There's a longer track record of Moss playing to a better stretch than Davis. The other end is I think StL overpaid for Moss. They did so due to their stressing need to acquire him. He's playing 1b. An area as I mentioned in the Lucroy thread that as a collective the drop off happens quickly. Brandon Belt is 16th in OPS with over 200PAs for 1b at .822. #20 Yonder Alonso at .737 16th in the OF is at .834 20 at .828. Davis? 58th at .734 right where the 20th best 1b is around. Moss simply has more value by the lack of quality at the position he plays. The OPS Davis resides at doesn't separate him from the "Pack" Just explain to me the positives that make Davis worthy of a top 100 prospect. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Moss has 15HRs this season. Davis will be lucky to reach that for a total. This after 25/30 HR seasons. Vs Davis' less 22HRs max to this point. Moss also came with versatility something Davis has none of. Moss also happened to be the best answer for a team who's only reason to acquire him was because of injuries and Moss fills both positions of need. Davis will never have that. Also Moss can be controlled through 2017 he's not a half season rental. Lefty bat vs Righty. Doesn't compare. Unless we keep Davis for the rest of this season/all of next season and then trade him in 2017 and Davis hits 20+HRs and finds versatility along the way. -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
If we trade Davis for that kind of return the man in charge should be fired. Khris Davis is worth at least one Top 100 type prospect at this point minimum. Why? He's such a negative Defensively. His highest HR total is 22 for the full season last year. And sits at 7 now this year. His BA from .244(below ML avg) to .230(even further below) Below Defense. Below BA. What does he provide that is remotely above average? Unless he goes on a HR tear to get above 20HRs again on this season, He's a Below average player. precisely a reason along with Gennett that they weren't top 100 ranked prospects. Why can he command one? Honestly? There isn't one thing of Davis on paper that sticks out that says anything but average at best. If he were a prospect right now in the Brewers Minors where are you ranking him? Probably 23rd ahead of Kyle Wren from what I know. Though 15th-23rd would seem to fit. I'd rank MLB's top 30 a little differently. But seriously if you have to grade Davis It'd have to be like this: Hit: 45 Power: 50 Run: 45 Arm: 40 Field: 45 Overall: 45 Top 100 prospects are Overall valued at 55 or higher. How does this 45 net one of those? -
Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Khris Davis for another starting pitcher or younger player with more controllable years > holding Santana accountable for his Ks. I guess I could have gone in to more "sky is falling" numbers rather than just say Ks. Holding Santana accountable for his Ks as in he shouldn't just hold down the OF spot if his batting line is .140/245/.255. Remove Davis and Santana once called up to bat for the team, can have that batting line all day and never get sent back to AAA since Davis is gone. Schafer is likely gone after the season. Davis has a lot of earning to go to remotely get a Starting Pitcher of any value. Parra in a top 10 OF year got Zach Davies. He of #4 upside in writing. I feel Davis in return would bring a Kyle Wren type player back. One that's not very likely to see the field. Give me Davis/Santana battle over Santana with nothing to lose and a AA-AAA Lifer. The Professional Brewers team does need to continue winning. When trying it requires your best non overpaid FA signee Players to take the field. -
Catcher prospects to target in a trade
brewcrewdue80 replied to Jose Cardenal1's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Catcher prospects to acquire are a lot like the 1b situation of prospects. It's a poor market. Shortstops though? Arcia is #14 on MLB.com...that's 6th overall. Take away Schwarber of the Cubs and The best catcher ranking is #69 Jorge Alfaro. And that's it for a top 100. There are 13 SS ranked in the top 45 ahead of Alfaro. Why bother going after a non top 100 prospect Catcher? There's better talent elsewhere to acquire for Lucroy. We need Difference Makers in players. Guys like Brett Phillips and Arcia who read like future All-Stars. Not acquiring a Catcher who's maybe going to have a .700OPS during a career year. I want the best player possible potentially in trading Lucroy. Someone with All Star potential. I don't want to settle for a few B grade types. Get the B+ to A- type prospect. Impact. If we take back a Catcher in return for Lucroy it's going to look like B,B,C grade return vs an A-/B+,B-/C+, B-/C+ kind of return. Build your Catchers through the draft with later round picks and sign scrap-heap catchers who occasionally provide you with a positive season, while costing 4-5mil total against your payroll. Wait til you've found another Lucroy type via the draft. Catchers aren't the thing in the Majors right now offensively, and I just stated the "Future Prospects" a Kyle Schwarber(who's questioned to remain as a C) and Alfaro are the only top 100s. It's not like 10-15 teams in baseball are nearing graduating Catchers themselves to become AS types. And look at the ones who have in Plawecki/Swihart/Realmuto. It's not a Catcher's era like we are about to see at SS. -
Gomez and Fiers to Houston for four prospects
brewcrewdue80 replied to trwi7's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
He was to start Tuesday. Mccullers got 1out today. Next RP got it through the 2nd. Fiers went 4ip in relief. Wasn't likely mentally prepared under the circumstances. -
The name Cano in this already makes this idea laughable. In no way can I imagine Cano and Lohse being included in the same sentence to make a waiver wire trade occur. Burgos as well. Why now would the Yankees willingly take Cano's contract when he blows this season, and not given him that 10yr extension when he was AS worthy? That's a forever non movable contract. Sabathia still has a year or 2 left on his contract. It's like Hmm 24+mil contracts and oh yeah Lohse with his measly 11mil expiring contract and some Burgos guy, lets get those two names involved. Come on LouisEly I like your posts, this one is a farce though.

The Future of Jon Lucroy
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I'm guessing whatever team friendly deal to remain a Brewer he brought to the FO in the offseason wasn't what they considered team friendly. Now, Lucroy is having the type of season he's having. So, let's say Lucroy said 5/65 extension. Team didn't want to do that. In no way at this juncture is he more valuable than what Lucroy asked for in the off-season. So now maybe the deal becomes 5/50. That's what I'm looking at. Lucroy's side wont want any part of that and take it FA. How about, whatever happens to Segura, gives us the real idea of what's going to happen to Lucroy as Segura's side BLEW the extension Milw offered him and I believe Milw instead is learning from that near mistake. Now, the rumors were drummed up of teams talking about Lucroy. I believe he'll get traded. I'm not sure it'll happen this offseason, but rather next Trade Deadline making more sense. Of course Lucroy needs to remain healthy, hopefully is above .750 OPS and has kept the value we see him as having today. Catchers aren't ranked that highly via MLB.com Jorge Alfaro who just went to Philly in the Hamels trade is the only one Not within the NL Central division ranked in the top 4. None of them below rate above a 50 Overall or top 100 prospect. Which either adds to needing to keep Lucroy. Or adds to the assumption of Lucroy's value is immense and he'll come with a high price tag in prospects. Personally, my feelings have been lowered on Catchers due to sitting games and the real risk of injury and affecting level of play. One year it's .270 the next it's .225 followed with .266 the third. That middle year had a nagging injury dealt with all season long. So with that in mind, I hope we look away from Catcher in return and go after the highest talent possible. Colorado would be fun to deal with this offseason now. Gray or Hoffman are ace type SPs that nabbing one of them to fill a big need at Catcher... One can wish. -
I'll take the Milwaukee trio. HRs. The HR power between the 3 are superior to the Cubs 3. OB seems to be in Milw's favor too. Kyle Schwarber is busting out early so there's a lot of shine on him. Bryant had .864/.879 calendar months to start the year. .805/.639 the following 2. Figured out much? Russell's OPS is .671 to this point. He hasn't even had the early barrage before declining. I'll stick with the Brewers 3. Fielder's power and batting eye, just wins. Best player overall and Braun at #2. then Bryant/Schwarber/Weeks/Russell.

Should Khris Davis be traded?
brewcrewdue80 replied to Harold Hutchison's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
No. Khris Davis should not be traded. I'd rather experience a fight it out for the position between Davis and Santana before just handing Santana the position. The guy needs to be accountable for his Ks. Until it's proven they will be controllable(say under 33%) The position is Davis' to lose and Santana's to win. Braun is aging folks. How many games does he stand to miss in a season? 25? 30? Who takes his spot in that time? Santana should win the OF spot and in the meantime be the 4th OF behind Davis and Braun, until Santana pushes Davis out. Now, I've also made mention that Davis ought to be traded in the past. Why? Because of his Defense. How long will his bat stay relevant vs his Defense being a reason he's not ML material? As it stands now to BWAR he's at -.2 value. His defense is at -.7 from -.2 last season.(Gee are anyone's DWAR up this year vs last?) These are just warning signs of what stands to come with him, and he's not giving offensive warning signs that he needs to be kept. His walks are up. Thats it. Well, his Ks are too. But nothing is flashing future turnaround of brightness. OPS+ or 106 last year/104 this year. I think that's him going to be between 100-110OPS+ I think it's better to have both until there's a 4th OF better than Santana/Davis holding it down. You'd have to wow me in a trade for Davis, and honestly, look at what Parra's been worth. Mitch Haniger+Anthony Banda and now Zach Davies. The reading being #3SP at best in Banda. Haniger a 4th OF. So that's about what I'd expect in return at best for Davis. We have the #4OF between Davis/Santana. #3 SP potential? I wouldnt try acquiring that at this stage for Milw with years of #4OF team control in Davis. -
Brandon Moss to Cardinals for Rob Kaminsky
brewcrewdue80 replied to And That's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
The Cardinals losing Kaminsky is a win for the Brewers. Again, this is the guy that was mocked a bit to Milw at 17 before losing that pick for the Lohse signing. They are a weaker organization for the Brewers to have to overcome because of the trade. Glad to see him removed. -
Gomez and Fiers to Houston for four prospects
brewcrewdue80 replied to trwi7's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Wouldn't the Mets be the ideal trade partner for Lucroy? Who else needs a catcher that's a contender? Pirates, maybe... Diamondbacks... Angels... The choices are fairly limited, and I prefer the idea of landing say Wheeler & Conforto for Lucroy. I know that's a steep price for the Mets to pay, but teams that understand analytics, and the Mets are towards the top of that list, realize the extra value Lucroy's pitch framing offers. I mean, that Mets' rotation coupled with Lucroy's catching. Jesus! That doesn't even seem fair. I'm with you, though. I really want to see a young, dominant, front of the line pitching prospect added. Otherwise, we're on another collision course for 2011. Stacked offense, but rip apart the farm to add a starter on a 1-2 year rental. No thanks. No the Mets have a logjam at Catcher having potentially the best bat for a Catcher in Travis D'Arnaud who can't stay healthy for any length of time to prove it, and this Plawecki kid playing his first season who's a top 75 prospect not living up to expectations on the ML thus far. -
Gomez and Fiers to Houston for four prospects
brewcrewdue80 replied to trwi7's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I would agree. Where's the 5th prospect? I'm happy the team gets 2 top 100 types and maybe a 3rd who's lost sparkle. The 4th guy's a throwin. Gomez was worth 2 top 100s and Fiers worth 1 for sure, both then would be worth throw-ins in trade. I feel Gomez worth 3 prospects and Fiers worth 2. We got 4 not 5 prospects. It's kinda like forgetting the QO prospect once again by Melvin. Quality type of players like AJ Reed or Derek Fisher or Joe Musgrove. Prospects picked just slightly lower than what they'll be when they give Gomez the QO. So we probably should have walked away with Joe Musgrove, but managed not to. I'm not upset over the trade. Getting a legit OF in Phillips I'm thrilled with. Is Santana only an OF? or can he play at 1b? Solving that position for awhile? Phillips looks like a Legit star having 54XBH already on the season. You add his speed and arm according to these rankings and you're looking at a Phillips/Arcia pairing up the middle defensively, and it wouldn't just be defensive stalwarts to watch, but 2 players who should contribute with the bat. 7 years starting in 2016. Hader is the ? to make the trade a true win for Milw or just a solid trade overall for the team. His accomplishments. Because Phillips will be special, Santana will mash HRs. If Hader turns in to a solid #3 like Fiers it's a win. Thanks for the hard playing Gomez. Thanks for pitching strong enough Fiers to be wanted in a trade tossing 89MPH. Welcome to Milwaukee Phillips/Santana/Hader/Houser -
Zimmer, Frazier, plus low-level pitching prospect? I would like to add Salazar to that but that seems to be a stretch. Two more outfielders? Getting crowded. I have no problem getting one of them, (I'd take Frazier), but maybe get 3B Yandy Diaz (an OBP machine) and 1B Nellie Rodriguez (a power bat) instead of Zimmer. Who in the OF? Taylor and Coulter putting up pedestrian numbers that would be below average for the ML level. Obviously, Coulter isn't about to be a plus defensively. Brewers don't have many ML OF prospects right now honestly. They are filled with AAAA types. Or, AAA types that wind up playing for the ML team, poorly
-
Cleveland is 8 games under .500 and thus very unlikely to make the playoffs, so why would they be aggressive in going after Gomez now, even with him being under contract for next season? Maybe Milw could acquire Bourn removing a massive Negative on that team and cash, for a better return in prospects? The Indians are just 6games out of the last wild card spot and with a Cy Young winner SP heading your rotation? Kluber, Carrasco, Baeur, and Salazar, adding a plus bat of Gomez and removing a junk bat of Bourn? A 10game win streak can happen for that team at any moment and are immediately within a game or tied for that wildcard spot. Thats the problem with the 5th wild card spot. Even with Cleveland's record, 6 games back isn't something to say, we're out of it and have no chance when they have a Cy Young Pitcher plus 3 others that can be #2s all on their own....look at St Louis 19th in runs scored best record in baseball. Cleveland has scored 17runs less. It's one thing to look at Milw's staff and say even at 6games behind they are done. But Cleveland has a legit Ace who pitched a CG 1run winner today.
-
Wow, please tell me this deal remains OFF! I guess Melvin operates on the knowledge he can't afford a QO? So nevermind asking for that player in return+ when trading Gomez? Flores who's got a weak future is an easy to be bettered on with a top 35 draft pick after 2016. So QO~Flores and Gomez~Wheeler? Nothing else? Nothing? You mean to tell me that, is your best offer on the table for Gomez? Then do the smart thing and trade him in the offseason! What a fricken dope! Again, Wow.
