If you pay a player AS money at his position and get AA replacement level player numbers from him you deserve the bashing. Lucroy meanwhile is paid below League minimum this year and the next 2 and likely just minimum the 3rd from now. He's tradeable/replaceable without taking a big loss. Lucroy can be average like he is doing now and clearly earn his keep. Or, he can be resembling what he was last season and the Brewers have such an asset to value. This isn't the case for Rickie. You can't move him without paying money for him or getting zero in return for a player just to save the money. As for suggesting Lucroy bat 4th/5th his performance to date with the players available at the time to use, warranted such. ARam being back removes any 4th in lineup. 5th? why not? ML average BABIP resides above .280 and Lucroy has been over .300 the last two seasons. At .224BABIP he's more than likely to find a groove and turn it up. The accolades/admiration towards him is that who at Catcher have the Brewers had that put up the potential numbers Lucroy is capable of? I haven't been excited about a Catcher since Dave Nilsson. "The fact is he makes more outs than Weeks right now" No one approaches the thought process of Lucroy really Not making less outs than Weeks. The team knows Lucroy doesn't walk as often as Weeks. What the team doesn't know is how well Lucroy will produce in the clutch and he's doing farely well. Weeks on the other hand is god awful in the clutch. Less than .100 avg with a runner on any base. .034 1/29 in high leverage situations. 0-15 with RISP and 2outs. You take all the outcomes of Weeks approaching 30%Krate with 10+% BBrate, it's not a good sign to me of him being able to turn it around and provide clutch hits. If he cant do any of that what's the point of him being on the team at 11mil cost?
-
From off the top of my head memory, Lucroy has had 2 Gamechanging(winning hits) thus far this season. At least showing some small credibility of clutch. Weeks on the other hand, I can't recall him changing the outcome of a game in our favor. Lucroy is a Catcher and isn't paid like Weeks. I don't expect as I'm sure most baseball fans, a Catcher to be a force at the plate. Lucroy sits at .224BABIP vs. the .300+ he's had the last 2 seasons. Weeks on the other hand is at .263 vs. the .285 last season. So the better likelihood of who's going to turn around sits with Lucroy. He puts more balls in play with less than 12%K rate. So, I'm not worried about him one bit. 16RBI projects to around 70 currently and I'm sure that's well within expectations of him prior to season's start.

Help me get excited about this team...
brewcrewdue80 replied to BuckyBrewer61's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Yeah, I don't follow the "team doesn't excite me" feelings. I think what you're losing your lost excitement is Stl has beaten us soundly with new blood and still have exciting new blood to come in the woodworks. That's the non-excitement factor. Stl is better than us today, and better than us in the future, and if we are to win the division that's who we have to contend with. Seeing as new blood at minimum is owned by the club for 6years, the stage would be set for the Brewers to finish behind them for a minimum of 6 more years after this season. That takes us to 2019 and the club has who left at that point to be excited about? Segura. Brauny should be on the decline. Those are the only 2 players known to remain on this team at this moment. With our minors not having the top 100 prospects there's just no telling who will break out and be a main cog for the team. Roache? Coulter? Arcia? Taylor? All question marks and no pitchers. So, I feel you on the lack of excitement in the future aspect. For this season though? Peralta,Segura,Gomez are 3 reasons to be excited. Braun is still in prime stages of exciting player to watch. The truth is the pitching is where the lack of excitement exists. And while Peralta is a reason to be excited the rest leaves much to be desired. I'm not done with Estrada who's been a victim of HRs and a fall back to normal in that, he's still effective. He's still striking batters out. Walks are a little up, but I feel this stuff is just a minor correction away and he's back to what we had last season. I'm not excited about Gallardo or Lohse in being top of the staff pitchers. Where have Gallardo's Ks gone? And Lohse is about right in line with what I expected from him 3.6era. So with Peralta not getting great results thus far the pitching staff zaps all excitement from this team. It is that exact reason as a fan I hate the Lohse signing. Get an aged pitcher vs the potential excitement of drafting a HS pitcher would bring. The team has enough reasons to be excited to watch at a game it's just there's teams in the NL(Atlanta,Washington,Stl,Cincy, even the West teams pose exciting players and strong teams that leaves us less exciting from a competition standpoint. This all resides in an exciting 1st round draft pick being homegrown on this team not happening since Braun in 2005. You could probably look at every team and find at least 1 or more 1st rd. selections since 2005 that are exciting players now or tomorrow for their team. To finish, the players you are missing are leaders in some form.. so that's what is missing. If you don't like RRR which I get, who's the next leader for this team? Braun hasn't been that, he follows. Nobody else stands out after Gomez, as potentially giving the team a Leadership Edge. One of the players you missed was Counsell. It's early, and maybe Segura's enjoyment of playing the game comes with some leadership type of form yet to be seen. It really just shows you RRR needs to go. To business-like and a team like the makeup of the Brewers needs a Firey personality. Anyone know when Counsell will be available as a Manager? -
After tonight's game, Yuni's BA and OB are just about exact to Career Averages. .271/.290 He's been pretty clutch and the Power is a bonus. I'm not going to change my stance towards him though and take this as him getting 2months' worth of Power/RBI in 1month. Hitters get streaky especially with power and for all we know he may not hit a HR for 2-4weeks which also reduces RBI. If that happens then the numbers he has now moving on to 4weeks later and its suddenly just a normal stat line for Yuni. Only being if he reverts to a career norm, we are in for a lengthy stretch of disappointment. This run has been great and I hope he steals some time from Weeks when Hart returns, since no one else does. It's clearly been a successful signing for the team on the season no matter what he does here on out. Yuni at my count won 4.5 games with his bat subbing in to this point. The team has 15wins so that's impressive. Enjoying it while it continues, not expecting it to continue though so I wont be disappointed when it ends.
-
Frustrating team. To have Gomez/Segura do what they've done so far. Yuni slg off the charts for him. To be 10-11 at home now, No run support for Lohse, just don't know where to place this team. We've played 10more games at home than on the road and sit 2under .500. Unless the team turns out to be Road Warriors, this homestand leaves the impression .500 is going to be tough to accomplish. It's really hard to imagine this team being 5th best in the NL to reach the Playoffs. Even with some turnaround.

Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I won't lie, this makes a heckuva lot of sense and that's why I already know that any trade Milw. would make of Lohse would have to include money. The 6 six starts just may have made a difference already in that he's still pitching well at a hitters park for a different team. Stated above by another poster: Angels just have to be ultimate desperate for a SP and that's today. Other teams surely will come to needing SPs if positioning for a Playoff push. So, I just can't believe there's no chance of Lohse being traded because there is a chance. Is there a Strong market? I doubt it but only because rentals from teams like the Cubs/Astros are going to be likely sought after first giving up less talent than what a 2+years of Lohse would cost a team. I do wonder though if any team would change it up on trading for rentals through the end of the season after the lack of success in Grienke/Dempster rental deals. That a team instead takes on an added year and in Lohse's case 2 so to maybe give the player acquired a chance to play the trade in to being worth it. I just think the Angels will have to address pitching, if they even remain in the race come near tradeline, not solely for a playoff run, but to justify more and more the Pujols/Hamilton contracts that are already looking like utter mistakes. To spend like they have and then not make the Playoffs in B2B seasons? It just looks bad publicly. I just think guys like Garza/Feldman/Villanueva/Norris/Harrel will be looked at before Lohse is considered even though Lohse may be the best pitcher they get its all about at what cost of talent and money. -
This is my logical Maddening reasoning behind RRR's suggestion of Axford being Closer again down the road.... He's stuck with Axford. Henderson was the 8th inning guy. No other clear cut 8th inning guy. If he has to keep working Axford then: Better to let Henderson pitch the 8th so the game is more likely to head to the 9th for the closer(Axford) to blow it. Rather than insert Axford in 8th, he blows it, and leaving RRR with the decision when to pitch Henderson in the game? 9th? 10th? Not at all(Rest for next game)?? So, I don't know what more to think about RRR. I don't follow him as a great leader when to me, his decisions don't look to be being made with a BackBone. Sit Weeks down for a couple games. Say Axford is done being our closer. Not throwing at other teams protecting our batters after being hit, just letting it slide. Emotion towards the umps with the bad calls... Maybe that's why they make them for us, they don't fear a visit from an Angry RRR? It's just soft.

Behold the Talents of Jean Segura
brewcrewdue80 replied to Eye Black's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
You're right PFX1, I'm no longer really on the Fence on trying to extend him. Part of one of the reasons to wait was to see what type of hitter he looks. A Gaps only power guy or someone who could clear the fences. The scouting on him left the impression he would be hard pressed to see more than 10HRs in a season and maybe peak out in the 15 range on his best seasons. That worried me that he may only be a 5-8HR guy for a season. I also didn't expect the SB output, yes a threat on the base paths but would it be used enough? And so far yeah it's being used. It's still very early to think Segura can jump 20mil in contract value through the end of play this season unless the team is signing him 8-10years. Still comparing to Austin Jackson a 3.5mil 1st year Arb player after 5+WAR years his first 3. For years 5 and 6 how much money can Austin get? It's not even 5mil for him paid in first 4years. 2 more to go, I just cant see him commanding over 10mil a piece those two years which then puts him at 25mil roughly first 6years if he does get 10mil on avg year 5/6. So when I look at it in that way it's 25mil value for Segura through his first six...We'll call it 27 for inflation. How many years do you lock up beyond arb controlled? He would turn 29 the first FA year what do you pay him til? 31? 32? So pretty much it's 3-4years extended beyond Arb controlled 27mil figure. I find it the team has to extend at least 3years if not 4 beyond control for the value of true money savings. The Castro contract he makes 24mil total his first 6 team controlled years. 30mil the 3 after. Total 54mil. 16mil option. Following along those lines the extra 20mil youre counting on Segura increasing his contract following this season vs now, Again it's 26-27mil his first 6years the 30 on top so it's 56mil at that point for 3years beyond. You would be suggesting the club would be missing out on extending him through this season from 10mil/yr FA years 1,2,3 to 16mil a year to reach 74mil 20more than Castro's. Troy Tulowitzki gets 16mil finally in his 8th season 20 for 9th which that's where we'd be finishing at on a extension likely. And That's after Tulo had an original contract like Braun and then getting the 2nd extension to get there. Just saying based on what's out there I can't find any reason to think Segura can ask for 16mil a year for year's 7/8/9 after this season. The club has the power in knowing it's a 27mil cost holding him for 6years through Arb if Segura doesn't want to take an offer of 10mil a year beyond control. No risk on the Brewers end then while Segura risks it all by not taking 10mil/yr today vs saying he's worth 16mil for those 3years. I truly believe Castro's contract is what is likely to happen with Segura with maybe 1mil more over his first 6years than Castro but 9/10/11 the 3FA years. Maybe some extreme season it may get up to 10/11/12 but that's only 3mil extra if the clubs waits through the end of this season. Maybe you're thinking the 4th or 5th year beyond? Willing to extend him that long in to his 32/33 age seasons? That just seems way too much risk. If you want to take that on and pay him along the lines of 14/15 mil those years(Castro's option is for 16) well sure than waiting a year or more at his current level of play that amount could be considerably cheap in value when those year's arrive. Or it will be an albatross of a contract should Segura run in the injury bug kinda like Jose Reyes. The team would owe him roughly 30mil for age 32/33 seasons. Seeing how Rickie has declined among many others at that age(projecting Rickie to continue his downward trend) just seems silly to lock him up to that contract just to save maybe 5-8mil a year long term. I mean 5-8mil with best projection of production vs. losing 15mil/yr if decline/injury riddled, I just cant see the point. I'd rather take on the extra 5mil closer to that time than securing 15mil today trying to see 9years in the future of a SS remaining healthy that long and knowing his batting skills will hold up that long. Andrus contract extension was at 15mil a for the majority on a team with plenty a capable payroll to take that on. So again, say Castro's is 10mil FA years to Andrus 15mil. In that range it's 4years of money to assume a 20mil savings by extending Segura today vs end of season. Andrus is only 1year older than Segura while in his 5th year so while it's a big contract Andrus's original FA aged years would have been 26,27, and so on. Not the 29,30 we're looking at with Segura. Basically, we have Segura for his 6 prime years regardless of extending or not. The extension years would be at the time his skills would stall and begin to decline. If Segura were 2 years younger I'd be much more on track with a long extension. But, he's not, and the timing is perfect for the club to sign him through his age 32 season. Doing that today or end of season though I just can't fathom Segura being able to talk his way in to being 15mil/yr locked up over 10mil/year locked up which is the 20 mil extra you're afraid he will be able to command. Think about that. The way Arb is working, there's no way Segura can make more than 28mil til he'd become a Free Agent. While his value may rise through the roof waiting til then, he could also stall/become injured. For him to ask the team for 20mil more on an extension vs the likely offer they give him, is just such a risk on his end. 10mil to 15mil to 20mil...The longer he waits the better chances he approaches 20mil but if he goes through a rough injury period he is throwing away 10-15mil locked up to try and earn an extra 5mil? Just not smart. Then you have Gomez's production and his 7/8/9mil contract. It's just out there to think Segura can command such a high contract after 1+ year vs what the rest of the team around him is making. 15mil has to be the highest he can command for his first 4 FA years on an Extension. And I just don't see how Segura would win that in talks. Maybe you're valuing the Brewers having an ability to sign Segura to those first 3/4 FA years at around 7/8/9mil a year if done today? And if waited then he's capable of asking for 12/12/13/14 type of deal instead? Considering the current market, for Segura to lock up 7/7/8/9 let's say FA years would just be taking a potential huge paycut(Half) and I see no reason for him to consider that money and wait a year or two. Castro's contract has to be the numbers he and the Brewers would be working off of. So that's 9/10/11 option at 16. And that's a good contract to me with that 16mil option. I cant see the numbers Segura puts up exceeding that by an enormous amount. -
When you're spotted the lead and you're getting outs with just throwing your fastball what's the point of throwing other pitches? Just to tinker around? Via radio it sounded like that 6th inning he was throwing a lot of curves. How much do you think Molina calling the pitches factors in to that? Can hate on him all you want but since he's been catching for STL, mediocre starters have managed under 4eras with regularity. I easily foresee Miller finishing the season under 3.3era. Why? Hitters in general are allowed to hack nowadays. I heard on an ESPN webcast April was most Ks to start the season by hitters ever. And that's just it, hitters arent hitting anymore for hits. It's all about freeswinging. Leads to less Walks which for a young pitcher is what I'd worry about and here Miller sits w/o many Walks(1 tonight) Extra K here a Deep flyout vs walk here and it's 2-3 outs just given to the pitcher. Over the course of the season a 3.75era type of pitcher is floating under 3.3 due to all the free outs batters are giving him. BTW, in context with where I'm already coming up with a comparison for Miller is Jordan Zimmerman. You take away the TJ year missed from him and look out with Miller in a year or two from now.
-
Great Pitching Matchup! The older Lohse facing the Young Gun who replaced him and is the main reason he's no longer a Cardinal! I hope the Brewers Crush Miller tonight after his performance vs us last time out. If not...Oh Boy we have the next Brewer Killer on our hands and I cringe at the thought of him being like 44-4 vs us 10years from now.

If you would qualify as a "Chain Smoker" then the neighbor probably has a legit complaint. As a non-smoker there are a number of co-workers I work with who just need to walk by within 10ft of me and I can just plain smell the chainsmoking that there clothes have been through. Without the person actually smoking at that time. My brother/mother were chain smokers. It's lousy. But, if you or your friends are the type of smokers where I'd say less than 1pack if even half a pack a day, there's no way you are to put it "Pig Pen" from Charlie Brown. That's the visual I can give that discribes how a chain smoker smells. It just hits you in dirty dusty waves. Honestly though, a space outside of 10feet, even down wind it's hard for me to see the smoke creating some kind or trigger/being potent enough to make a complaint. And it sounds like you're more than double that away. Have you spoken with them and asked what it is that is causing them to complain? \ Yes, common courtesy towards your neighbor is nice and all...But how is it a courtesy to the smoker walking around the block to enjoy a 2min smoke? Maybe the neighbor hasn't quit smoking. The guy is sneaking in smokes and the wife is complaining she smells smoke on him. And she's falling for his excuse that it's obviously due to the neighbors constant wreak of smoking making its way in to their house. That seems more legit to me than your smoke actually having an impact on them.

I think before this resurgent Gomez appeared to us he did bat quite a number of times ahead of Braun in the 2slot. Weeks/Gomez batting order. I think having Segura batting ahead of Braun alone helps him achieve 120RBI. I said it before, he's going to actually be OnBase numerous more times than Weeks+ ever was. Aoki is an older version of Segura I believe...or Segura a younger version of Aoki as a batter however you want to look at it. So that's 2 on base batters for Brauny. I don't know what to say but Gomez/Betancourt has produced way beyond any imagination and I was disappointed to see tonights lineup card. How good is this team's lineup if I see Lucroy 8th, Hart 6th and think too low in the lineup! I think I nailed the lineup with my first post in this thread putting Yuni in place of my 7th in order I believe. Aoki/Segura/Braun/ARam/Luc/Hart/Gomez/Weeks/Pitcher. Move Hart/Gomez/Weeks up on Lucroy rest days Maldy bats 8th. Hart 5th Lucroy 6th doesn't bother me either but I position Luc ahead of Hart so that he's not clogging the basepaths for Gomez all to often. Remember the post I made of OB earlier when taking away HRs? Hart was near bottom. Lucroy was nearer the top.

Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The rest of the post stated that the AAA guys were/are to be back of the rotation guys. But guys with 5runs/gm run support meaning there would be enough wins going around on #5SP lines. I know Lohse is the #2/3 and he's likely to win us games at 1-3runs of support as well as the 5runs starts. Throwing it out there that to trade Lohse as a #2 and say a 7-4 record in his starts missed vs. inserting a AAA #5 and the team's ability to score runs I feel a 5-6 record. It's not a big loss on 2wins this season vs. attaining a player who may net quite a number of wins down the road. And the 11mil no longer spent? Not having a #2 aging Lohse next season? Well, obviously that money can be used on another SP if our 'In House" guys don't do the job. Again it's all based on the prospect that is offered to the team. After Segura's success today/Trout/Harper last year, the fans I'm sure are high on what a prospect can do. They wouldn't run out mass exodus over a move that rids the team of Lohse when the next Segura may have just acquired. -
Could there be a strong market for Lohse?
brewcrewdue80 replied to HiAndTight's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I was one of the blatant disagreement posters on signing Lohse. When the deal was done, not knowing Segura/Yuni would carry the Brewers like they have, made the comment: My only hope in this deal giving up the 17th pick, is that the Brewers by having this deal in place for less money than what the market value originally was asked for Lohse would turn around and trade Lohse away at a deadline recouping in return a Prospect that would hopefully be held in better regards over a 17th draft pick. I still hold out this hope and I'd have an open ear throughout the season on any offers for Lohse whether in contention for playoffs or not. Of course the more in contention the Brewers are, the better the offer should be to want to remove Lohse from the Staff. Again, this is a club with a number of AAA SPs projected as back-end starters and that is today. Not in 2seasons so Lohse can be replaced. Do I think there's a market for Lohse? You Bet! Strong? Too Early to tell. Of course Strong is objective. It is probably strong today as far a team willing to trade for Lohse. But are the trade offers strong in return for Milwaukee? That is my feeling on it being too early. I also loved the deal in the low amount of money up front and it seems easy to me for an early season rental of Lohse for under 11mil while the AAAA pitchers work themselves out to making the staff. In return the club keeps a lower payroll on the season like they originally wanted and if trading Lohse away this year they improve the outlook for the next two seasons of payroll obligations. Gotta ask the opinion. How upset would anyone be if the team did trade away Lohse pre All-Star break with the offense looking to be super potent? In that the Back-end starter that is called up to replace him is stepping in to a situation where a team is averaging what? 5runs a game let's say? Obviously, it would be a real decent prospect coming our way hypothetically in this scenario. So with that in mind how would you react? Brewers hovering around .500 to 10games above it?
