Sorry, I was running low on time to complete my post. I made a quick quib on Latin Players after the top picks being listed. The Brewers have Peralta...I wanted to look up others in the works I'm not familar with before commenting more. I noticed in looking these players up that are listed in top 100, that many of them came off of huge seasons like Morris'.. I have a belief that since they are Latin Players and not known as well like players who are drafted, these big seasons shoot them up on the radar in to these rankings. It's whether they, like Morris continue on that big season to keep them in the rankings. Many of them were in the 50-94 range so if they fall back to earth a ranking next year out of the top 100 isn't seen as a poor ranking looking back. This is kinda like Peralta, big 2011 a ranking of 56. Not a big year in 2012 and a lower ranking. Had Peralta not performed well in his ML innings, I wonder if he even makes the top 100. You're right though it is lousy to not have a top 50 prospect but then again you had Bradley's year that in a progression year likely landed him in the top 50 vs out of top 100. Roache's injury keeps him down until he has a big year. (Fingers crossed) You gotta look at kinda what it is, Covey's non signing,Arnett's failure, the poor 2011 draft and 2012 draft is tbd. It's sad the club hasn't hit on one of the mid picks like Stl or Cincy recently. They did have Lucroy though and you cant expect every year to have 2nd/3rd rd picks wind up being high producing ML players. Taylor seems like a potential winner in one of those picks. And for the down players, Gagnon just continues to produce. I mention a top 200 ranking because as has been stated with many a time, the club has a bunch of players with high Floors but not high ceilings. What if Coulter,Roache,Gagnon,Prince,Morris,Taylor,Lopez break out further and have decent to monster minor league seasons? That's 7 players that with graduation of prospects we have the potential of seeing ranked in next year's top 100. Then this year's rankings are moot. The team's perception within the rankings are then caught up with reality. If next year we don't see more than 1 in top 100 then I'm going to be concerned. Give it another Year with these rankings. Let's see how the Club's top 20 prospects perform this year and where they fall next year if they still qualify to be ranked as a prospect.

Well, I wonder what the Brewer's interest would have been in Carp had Gamel's injury happened a week earlier? Anyway, Boston has a ton of 1b now. let's see who doesn't make their team and if they fit our 1b needs.
-
It's the OF. Position held by many. There's going to be plenty that become available who don't make their teams out of Spring Training. So I'm more concerned with 1b. But even there there are plenty that can be picked from under same scenario. Decent Bats/no Defense. Awful Bat/great Defense. Middle of both types. It's just a wait and see approach currently. No rush to judgement/signing. Better to have the minor guys play for it than to sign someone blocking them in their eyes of having a shot of making the club.

Brewers still active; Lohse/Backup MI/backup 1b
brewcrewdue80 replied to yoshii8's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
This is/would be a huge blow to STL. Though, while Lohse makes a perfect sense sign with Carp out and Miller's potential to be out. They do have Rosenthal/Taveras where I could see STL. trading for a SP to open a spot for Taveras. Or just running with Rosenthal. I said from the beginning Lohse will end up with Stl for 2013. It just makes this all the more likely of it coming true than when I said it. -
I'm going to pass on LaPorta for now. it's time for a wait and see approach. Spring Training games. 25man roster decisions let's see if a player catches our eyes or falls out of someone else's who is a ML producing player vs what LaPorta has accomplished.
-
Not sold on Ishikawa. I'd rather wait and see what becomes available throughout Spring Training until the end. Why go out and rush getting a guy now when a player with greater 1b batting impact may become available? Someone said with Carp signed by Boston, they now have 5 1b. What if Morris hits the cover off the ball in ST? Currently, I think since we're in to training camps and such it's time to take a wait and see approach. Players that are available now are there for a reason, how bout we wait for a player that's not available now but becomes available?

I'd Trade Weeks on a decent year much less a Big Year. His Defense just isn't cutting it and that bat last year didn't play up enough to compensate for his Defense. Segura can play 2b/SS,Gennett is 2b but in a trade you could look for a 2b or SS because of Segura's capabilities. I'm with you on worried about Gomez. I think this Offseason shows he's not worthy of a QO barring a season where he exceeds his production from last year...problem is he will bat in what 7 spot? Good Luck! I will say that Gomez and the QO system not working out may make him better in trade value now in season than before. Teams are likely in the perception Gomez isn't a QO type player to begin with and acquiring him for a stretch run for a decent prospect or 2 is worth it. Aoki on the other hand was a multiple batting champ from where he came from and I don't see how what he showed last season would concern me of him not being able to repeat. In fact I believe he will be better since he has his role as leadoff hitter cemented vs. just trying to fit in some where. Anyway this was about BA top 100. What did anyone expect? The team didn't draft risk/high upside players with their 1st rd picks in 2011. They went College players who they could run through the system and start. There are going to be 2011/2012 ranked players that are there on hype being a high draft pick. Many of them wont make it like Bradley who was ranked last year Looking at the other Central teams. Stl. Taveras-as a result of Latin Scouting/signing, Miller a 1st rd pick HS Pitcher in 2009 vs. ours flaming out,Carlos Martinez-Another Latin Scouting/signing,Trevor Rosenthal 2009 gem find, Wacha-1st rd pick in 2012,Wong 1st rd pick in 2011. So when you look at it 2 are Latin signings 1 a HS 1st rd pick and a late rd gem. Other two I'm not concerned with. Cincy-Hamilton 2nd rd find2009 all about speed,Stephenson 1st rd 2011,Cingrani great 3rd rd pick 2011,Corcino Latin signing. Scary to think where Cincy would stand with 1st rd players panning out vs just 1. Cubs-Baez 2011 9th seclection,Almora 2012 6th selection,Soler Latin signing,Vizcaino Latin signing. If you're top 10 pick I'd expect you to make top 100 prospect on next 3years so then it's Latin signings here. Vizcaino coming off injury. Pirates-Cole 1st pick 2011,Taillon 2nd pick 2010,Polanco Latin signing,Henson Latin signing,Heredia Latin signing Cubs/Pirates are a product of top 10 picks within last 3 drafts. The rest are Latin signings which Peralta was one for Milw. I'm not upset with where the Brewers are behind the Central teams when you look at who they have in the top 100. Looks like more Latin Scouting is needed. Then again a lot of the Latin players in this list are there after having a very good year. They all aren't going to pan out. Where's a top 200 list? How many players in that do the Brewers have in relation to the rest of the Central teams? I'd think the Brewers would fill up a lot of slots in that next 100 ranking. And then see a similar amount within top 200 to rest of the Central teams. For what it's worth if Peralta and Thornburg both perform well I don't see a big drop vs the other teams' top 2 in this list. Ours just happens to have more MLB experience to this point.

Brewers still active; Lohse/Backup MI/backup 1b
brewcrewdue80 replied to yoshii8's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Philly hasn't won a World Series with the addition of 2 CY winners. A Lohse signing isn't going to make Brewers WS contenders. The 1st rd pick we have just may down the road. And that's what is important. Acquiring players that ultimately can bring you to the World Series. -

You're okay with losing a draft pick meaning not only do Brewers give Stl their compensated pick but move them up 1 in the draft? For 1/2years of Lohse? As we know this team doesn't have the best outlook defensively, so let's sign a low k/9 starter that will rely on his defense to a high paying contract and forfeit a 1st rd draft pick for 2years service? All the other QO guys have been signed. Lohse is the last one standing and the rumor is teams aren't picking up the phone. Boras is the one hard selling to any idiot left to listen. Teams that already gave away a pick make sense. Brewers haven't and its absurd to consider losing a 1st rd pick for two years even 3 for an aging pitcher coming off his Best season out of 11! Ask Philly how the signing of aging Cy Young winners are working for them? Lohse has never been within a level below the class of Lee and Halladay. -

Still posting links that Boras is talking to Milw...name Mark A about signing Lohse. This has all the makings of Mommy said no but ask Daddy and he doesn't care and says yes.... -
Any reason the Brewers should look at him? 488k salary this year Arb years the following 3. I guess the question is: Who do you want more? Mat Gamel? or Mike Carp? Mike Carp or Taylor Green? edit add: He is 26 going in to 27 with more experience than combined by Gamel/Green.

Thanks for sharing this story! I can comfortably believe Lohse isn't on the Brewers checklist. BTW, Over/Under on Lohse's ERA this year? NL:3.97 AL:4.61 -
Possible Trade Targets - Starting Pitching
brewcrewdue80 replied to sveumrules's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
For what is being suggested as a return to Houston for Norris, I cant see any reason they should trade him....If we're looking at a #2 potential then 1, they should keep him long term. 2, if they are going to look to trade him, doesn't letting him flash that #2 stuff this season only add to his value and thus return in a trade? He could go 200/200 this season and with 2years remaining on contract boom James Shields type trade....I know too much but you get where I'm going....Considering the Brewers prospects I don't think they can make the phone call asking about Norris. Houston would hang up. But if Houston likes a certain prospect then maybe something can happen. -
Felix Hernandez Extended: 7 years $175 Million
brewcrewdue80 replied to burnzy24's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
It's amazing to think Felix is only 26! Good deal for him and the Mariners. Gallardo just became a much higher valuable trade bait. I guarantee you the Yankees had already put Felix on their team the year he went FA. This just ended that dream. Verlander will be dumb to take a contract extension over becoming a FA now. No doubt now he'll be in the 30mil/yr payday with Felix gone. -
If you think that him hitting second was why he struggled the first half of last year, then I'm not sure what I can tell you. He's one of the 4 best hitters on the team, and hitting him 6th would be a waste by giving more AB's to... most likely, Carlos Gomez or Jean Segura. As bad as everyone thought he was last year, he finished with a 100 WRC+, exactly league average. Moving Gomez up to 2nd from 7th, means he gets ~100 more PA's as a result. Do you really want Carlos Gomez to pinch hit 100 times for Rickie Weeks? I honestly don't see Gomez as a hitter higher than 7th in the lineup. Segura is a different story though and he's who I am campaigning to bat 2nd. I posted earlier I think Weeks and Hart are equal in value to a lineup and both sit imo at 5/6. I just like Lucroy more to bat 5th. I wont argue if Weeks bats 2nd, I just feel Segura suits more in the 2hole than Weeks moving forward for Milwaukee. I'd rather start that today vs. next season or 2 from now. Honestly, there are many lineups where I see Weeks bat 2nd with Lucroy 5th followed by Weeks 5th Segura 2nd Maldonado 6/7th. This is exactly one of the reasons why I felt trading Hart should have been priority since when looking at lineup card Weeks and him result in a 567 battle with Lucroy. and batting any of the 3 7th just seems a total waste on value. May as well just send Hart to another team returning some player of value(SP/3b) in the top minors level soon to be Bigs. Gomez could have been dealt as well assuming he's not a 7/8 batter in value produced.

Not necessarily true. He may have used him to gather information, but that doesn't mean he used the information in the appeals process. If he DID actually reference it with regards to tampering, then yes, it's in the appeals process and MLB already knows. If he didn't use it but can show it was part of his defense somehow, then he's probably fine. The more I think about it, the more his explanation makes sense. He's just going to have to prove it. But to recap....his name isn't on any list that is associated with any PED sales. His amount owed is about 10x more than every other person on the list (how many drugs was he getting?), his lawyers names are supposedly all over the documents. And the paper that ran the story would have loved to break the Braun news but didn't because it felt it had no sufficient evidence. Just hope he can actually prove it somehow. Well, to pay a guy 20-30k for some kind of potential evidence to use to prove your innocence had better be used in the case. Otherwise, that's some of the worst use of 30k I've heard of. Hell, at least those others are named for less than half that much and got some kind of return on it!

Chris Carpenter out for the year
brewcrewdue80 replied to markedman5's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Let the Shelby Miller Cy Young ERA begin. As well as Lohse back to STL. Happy Trails Chris. -
This is my look at it. If Braun used Boesch as a consultant for his case last offseason. Then MLB knows this already right? If they put Boesch's statement on what his findings are on Testosterone levels then MLB already has evidence that Braun's story would check out. But if in Braun's appeal case they have zero history of a Boesch findings then he's dead to rights for a long suspension. So, whatever right now. This will sort it self out rather quickly on Braun's case. If what his statement says is true then MLB has a paper trail of their own proving it via last season's appeal process. If they don't then Braun's statement is glaringly false to them. Like someone said earlier this was a UM guy and Braun was a UM student/athlete so the connection was certain to show up. Who knows? Maybe Braun has been the lab rat from the beginning and his whole career is a cheat? Whatever it is, like in Armstrong it will eventually come out.

Love Fantasy Baseball! I really only have experience with ESPN. I find nothing wrong with them. I've drafted with Yahoo but never ran through the season with roster moves. Anyway, if anyone has a League they want an owner I'm willing. If it's a Keeper/Dynasty League I'd also take over a team. The buyin price should be reasonable though...over $50 and I'm on the fence on joining.

First, I can't see Bogaerts being traded away for a Gallardo. By mid season this year he will be in the top 10 talk in prospect rankings. Gallardo is good/great but he's not worthy of a top ten prospect a year away from playing in the Bigs. Barnes could make sense but only in the realm of Boston magically competing and wanting Gallardo to push them over the top. The trade fodder for Boston attaining Gallardo just doesn't make sense when you have your top two prospects joining the team the time Gallardo becomes a FA. I'd fully plan on attaining Gallardo via FA building along with Bogaerts and Barnes. And I forgot about Bradley. Gallardo to me just isn't enough to make a team trade away a core of players ready to help your team in a year for. This isn't Halladay,Lee,Sabathia we're talking. Gallardo has 4 Career CGs and only 1 in last 2seasons. It's not like he's suddenly going to start pitching CGs now in his career moving forward. And I'm not trying to say Gallardo isn't worth top 50prospects its just Boston's top 3 are top 40 and by year's end(with progression) will be top 25s. These arent prospects blocked at their position either so there's no need to trade them away. In the end, I don't see Boston being a good trade partner. If their top 3 were an added year away from expected making the Bigs then yes. The timing of it all just doesn't fit to me.

Weeks' Best hitting was done from the 6th spot last year. Whether, it's him approaching ABs differently there, or Pitchers approaching how they pitch Weeks with who bats next...He was better hitting lower in the lineup, so the Stats say. It will likely be Weeks 2nd, just hope RR moves him down sooner than he did last season should he struggle out of the gate.

Brewers still active; Lohse/Backup MI/backup 1b
brewcrewdue80 replied to yoshii8's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
I'd really prefer no other 1b signing. Is Gamel really that bad in their minds? Lucroy incapable of playing 1b time to time when Gamel gets a day off? Or? Is Hart about to be Traded? Because for 30games out to have to find a 1b seems over-reaching and a waste. Just let Gamel get an extended look even vs. tough lefties, so be it. What is the team going to do when Hart returns? I just don't see signing another 1b to spell Gamel what? 5-10games before Hart returns resulting in anything worthwhile for the money. What is the replacement level 1b out there going to provide in that time over just playing Gamel? 1win maybe? -
Man, that is just incredible. To think what promise Jurrjens had prior to last season to this? 1.5mil contract?! The guy was an AS clearly, and now he's scrapheap material! No injury and this guy would be on the track to 10mil+ years probably after this 2013 season. I am glad a team like Baltimore signed him as they are one of those teams I can root for and thus I can root for Jurrjens to return to something resembling what he had in 2011. That said, I am still glad Milw wasn't the team for this reclamation project. I want to see the young pitchers battle out who will be part of Milw's Pitching staff of the future. I don't want the team to force their decision on 2 guys and have to stick with it, whether working or not. There should be 7arms to interchange and have a great look at to determine the path of Milw's future.
-
OMG Yes! ^^^^^Someone who has the same feelings I do on Lohse. I'd break things too! How about we give the Cardinals the division without any effort to dethrone for the next 6 seasons! Our loss is their gain...pick to comp pick. Any team within the division should throw up on the idea of losing a draft pick while being the team that gives an added pick to STL in return! Stl already has a FAR FAR Superior Farm than Milwaukee currently, lets skip adding a 1st rd pick ahead of STL's, then allowing them to move up a spot and gain a pick? Far be it then I have to watch Lohse implode as hmmmm every single FA STL pitcher signing in the last decade for the Brewers has? I just want to break Lohse's arm to end the remote possibility of Brewers signing him. There cannott be a worse decision by any other team than Milw to be the ones to sign Lohse. It hurts the Brewers the Most!

Brewers still active; Lohse/Backup MI/backup 1b
brewcrewdue80 replied to yoshii8's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
The whole MLBTR wasn't linking Lohse to Milwaukee. It was saying of the FA players on Starks list the Brewers are likely talking to a few of them via a Haurdicourt response. Alex Gonzalez,Ryan Theriot,Brandon Inge, and Casey Kotchman would be whom Haurdicourt is suggesting via a 1b/MI need. Nobody will sign Lohse. I'd take any of the 1st rd pitchers picked in this years draft and insert them on the team upon signing and expect what I expect from Lohse! Lohse's history says he's more likely to pitch above 6era than he is below 4.5era. For one, to give up a pick would be disgusting. Two for Milw to give up a pick that allows another pick to Stl who already destroys our farm system,...I mean, Stop IT already! with a Lohse signing! Excuse me while I go bash my head against the wall to get that thought out of my head...AGAIN!
