  1. Yeah that will go in the books as a make-up call so it goes both ways on ump impact both teams
  2. What did he do? Maybe the ump should have called pitch 3 a strike as it was to make it a 1-2 count vs 2-1 count. Pcts flip greatly on that bad call.
  3. If the zone should be the zone then everyone should agree that the pitch to Castellanos was a ball. Except the zone has a piece of the ball touching it. It's a strike if we had robo ump. 100pct.
  4. Those were strikes all game for Miley yesterday. Batter before broke up a no-hitter with a weak shift hit. Why does an ump bail out the batter on 2 strikes like that? Wasnt outside, right center low zone... It's BS to be at home and throwing games for the road team on borders of zone. While calling 2-3balls out of the zone for other team.
  5. Can we conspiracy theory that MLB doesn't want Milwaukee running away with the central and told all of the umps this series to blatantly throw the games the Reds way?
  6. Welp strike 3 pitch before results in a 3-2 HR and ends the history in the making. Starts 5IP or more giving up 1 hit or less.
  7. We've had like 10 of these this year through 5 (or it certainly feels that way), and if one does ever hold up, I think it'll almost certainly be combined. Not the history Im thinking of...MLB all time
  8. Well, they aren't very strategic if they are hurting their own players. Correct. Thus they trade away players hurt by it. I mean, I am not trying to be tinfoil hat guy here, but just think of the scenario: Eventually build a roster where everybody sees fine in your stadium, while your opponents all have, as sveumrules would call it, a couple two tree guys who can't pick up the spin for diddly in your stadium. It would be a pretty nice home field advantage if you could pull it off. And what the hell, let's take a look at their home/road splits on the season: Split W L RS RA W-L% Home 27 16 194 138 .628 Road 25 20 240 212 .556 It's probably nothing, but they would be brilliant if they actually were doing that. Ooh I like this theory and the stats are fairly large difference there to back it up. Pitchers allowing 74 more runs on road than home on 43-45 games split. Avg just over 3 runs per game at home so you can estimate 67.5 runs less allowed.
  9. What are you basing the "easy choice" off of, out of curiosity. Freddy has been better in almost every stat category from old school stats to next gen stats. Wins, losses, ERA, Starts, CG, IP, SO, Opp Avg, R/9, WAR, R The only two things that Burns has done better are walks allowed and HR allowed. But even with his big lead in those two, they have an identical WHIP, and Freddy allows fewer runs per 9. Don't get me wrong, I think that Corbin is deserving, but I don't think he's clearly better than Freddy, especially as of late. Burnes is better in K/9, BB/9, HR/9, xERA, FIP, xFIP, and Fangraphs WAR by 1.4 wins. Burnes is closer to DeGrom than Peralta is to Burnes. The BB-9 of course gives Burnes better K-9 and the HR-9 of course gives him the better Fip. Pretty Sure Freddy was best in baseball at H-9 when I last looked. And his K-9 would win K-9 on the year in other seasons. I don't think for this season these two are far apart in value. Less BB-9 reduces chance for hurt when HRs happen. Burnes will see quite a change when he allows another HR. Freddy may walk more but giving up less hit-9, means less chances for an impact hit to hurt you. And he's had a share of HRs that greatly impacted his stats. 15 of his 23 runs allowed are on the 9HRs he's given up. Burnes with his 3HRs allowed only giving up 4 runs out of 25 runs-23 runs allowed. I look at it this way. It'll be harder for Burnes to keep up his stats than it will be for Freddy through the end of the season.
  10. But what I'm seeing is a higher amount of PAs and runs scored vs RH Starters than I do on overall RHP. Meanwhile the LH Starters stats are less the vs LHP overall which makes sense vs LH RP. So not fully right. The Baseball Reference splits page explains that the lines for LHP starter and RHP starter include all plate appearances for the entire game, and not just those against the starter. So, they don’t really tell you what was done against the starter. I scanned through the box scores and identified 18 games started by LHP, including 2 that were “bullpen games” in which the starter pitched 1 or 2 innings. My quick and dirty calculation says that the starters in these 18 games went a total of 86 IP and allowed 26 R for an ERA of 2.72. In the last 4 starts by LHP (not including Gomber of the Rockies in a bullpen game) the Brewers have scored 2 runs in 26 IP. The pitchers were Miley tonight, Anderson of the Pirates last Sunday, and Caleb Smith of the DBacks twice. I’m sticking by my statement that the Brewers have not done well against LH starters. So it's a little recency bias but yes they aren't scoring enough vs LH Starters. Today's game would put LH Starters at 2.49 ERA vs Brewer hitters. if your numbers are correct.
  11. But what I'm seeing is a higher amount of PAs and runs scored vs RH Starters than I do on overall RHP. Meanwhile the LH Starters stats are less the vs LHP overall which makes sense vs LH RP. So not fully right.
  12. Are you sure you’re looking at the right data? Overall hitting against LHP and RHP is irrelevant to the question of how the Brewers have done against lefty starters. Those numbers will include against lefty relievers who might be back of the bullpen guys pitching in lopsided games. The relevant information would start with identifying all games in which the Brewers have faced LH SPs and looking at how many runs they score against those starters compared to what RH starters. I’m not sure the Brewers have had more than 10-15 games against LH starters this year in large part because the division teams don’t have many. I’m pretty sure Miley’s start tonight was the first by a Reds lefty in the 11 games the teams have played, and I don’t think the Cubs have had any in their 12 games against the Brewers. If anyone has info on how the Brewers have done against LH starters to refute my impression that they have had trouble against them, I’d like to see it. We do know that they have now been shut out in their last two games against them. If I try this. BREF has stats leading in to Brewers Batting Splits. In that you can find vs a starter. Hitting looks very equal to vs RH Starters. but if I take the Runs scored divided by games facing a starter LHP sees 3.44R/GM and RHP sees 4.62R/G and I'm looking at that and the RH Starter runs allowed is completely off as it is higher than RHP overall altogether. So can't really tell off. Just assume the stats vs the Starter being very similar. Runs idk.
  13. So far I think Cincy this series has had already 35 balls called strikes. And I may be underselling that. Well looks like 7 today but 4 that I thought were balls apparently placed on the zone by a stitch thread.
  14. Yelich never recovered from fouling the ball off his knee mentally or physically. He looks hesitant at the plate and doesn't even want to swing just hoping the pitcher will walk him. Watching Yelich in today's game. Confidence is not there. He's weak minded and not strong at all. Like literally somebody on the team needs to call him soft and scrub get in his face shove him on his butt and tell him yep just a loser. Because I have no clue the way he's at the plate how to get him strong and angry.
  15. Adames has to be better than rolling around in to the 2b there well after the throw to where he's 7 feet off the bag. There's no interference so much as I could see an umpire eject Adames there.
  16. I'm feeling a comeback. Miley was hittable last inning
  17. To be fair on Peterson, if you're watching the CF mis-plays the ball rolling by him, I imagine never seen Winker immediately backing him up to scoop and throw him out on a still close play at 2b. Then Pina's ground ball is a hit if it weren't a C/Pitcher/lumbering 1b. Always get a kick when announcers say what a play when its just luck that you had a slow runner. I could see Ronald Acuna taking that to 2b if that SS tried to throw him out continuing on.
  18. Miley is truthfully painting the zone tonight. Sanchez has missed location infinite times more than Miley's 0. Not one meatball pitch by Miley. Of course he's been awarded a few Ks as well but occasional non-calls evens it out.
  19. Miley isn't anywhere close to throwing a mistake thus far. Everything is painting the strikezone or near it but nothing around the middle of the plate. Can totally see how he threw a no hitter this season.
  20. To be fair this ump has called strikes that are balls at a consistent rate vs Brewer hitters since that 2nd inning. Just called strike 3 on Adames another batters box strike call. Counsell had better get thrown out and fined after this game. How do you hit if 3inches outside corner is a strike?
  21. I see he likes the outside batters box line for strikes on 1st pitch to Brewer hitters. Mahle tried it to Jace but called a ball.
  22. Well past that. Halfway through season 5HRs. What's our combined pitcher's HRs at? 3? 4?
  23. Houser is now 2/5 of the way there! At 51 pitches, I doubt he even gets out of the fourth. He'll just need to HBP to keep his count low, while loading bases efficiently.
