  1. Arenado HR has Cards up 2-0 on the Reds, who have only mustered one hit off JA Happ through five innings.
  2. Toronto's offense is awesome, 3rd in runs scored (735) & 1st in OPS+ with a 113 mark. The Orioles pitching is the opposite of awesome, with 835 runs allowed & an 81 ERA+, both MLB würsts.
  3. Across all MLB there have been 141 no hitters vs 167 cycles since 1970. Brewers are at 2 no hitters vs 9 cycles.
  4. Was just looking through FanGraphs positional splits earlier. Catchers are currently 5th in wRC+ (111) & tied with SF for 1st in WAR (5.0). 2B have also fared well with a 121 wRC+ (4th) & 4.2 WAR (2nd).
  5. Everyone else's Spectrum go to commercial on Vogelbach's full count then come back & he walked with Manny now at the plate, or am I the only one getting Matrix glitches?
  6. Civale with the deep repetoire... 4 Seam: 24.6% Cutter: 24.6% Curve: 14.6% Splitter: 14.1% Slider: 12.2% Sinker: 10.0%
  7. Looks like Omar & Manny (& Luke & Jacob) have been 3rd among backstops at +9 too. FanGraphs also has them 3rd in framing runs (+10.7).
  8. When you lead your league in K9, BB9, HR9 & ERA...you might just be the best pitcher in your league.
  9. This isn't something a lot of people here are taking into consideration but it's what will likely keep Burnes from winning. Burnes is about 40 innings behind Wheeler, that's a lot of innings. I mean, nobody is talking about deGrom anymore obviously but his numbers are more insane than Burnes, he's just 50 innings behind. I know Burnes leads in fWAR but, I just kind of don't like fWAR for deciding who pitched better in a given year. It might not be fair but I think actual results should matter more (bWAR) for on field awards than theoretically deserved (fWAR) results. I hope Burnes wins but I don't expect it and wouldn't even think it was a snub if he finished top 3. Even with the IP defecit FanGraphs has Burnes 3rd in the NL in runs allowed based WAR at 6.1 with only Scherzer (6.3) and Buehler (6.9) ahead of him. Obviously different pitchers exert varying degrees of control over their batted ball results (while they have no real control over the defense behind them) so while ERA might represent actual results, they are actual results that to some degree were still outside the pitcher's immediate control. That's why I like to average the two for a composite WAR... Burnes: 6.1 rWAR | 7.1 fWAR | 6.6 cWAR Wheeler: 5.8 rWAR | 6.5 fWAR | 6.15 cWAR Buehler: 6.9 rWAR | 4.6 fWAR | 5.75 cWAR Scherzer: 6.3 rWAR | 4.7 fWAR | 5.5 cWAR Woodruff: 5.9 rWAR | 4.1 fWAR | 5.0 cWAR
  10. It really is. Especially over only 152 innings. Check out 2020-21 Corbin vs 2004 Sheets vs 1988 Higuera... 34 GS | 199 IP | 2.13 ERA | 0.93 WHIP | 280 K | 45 BB | 6 HR | 8.3 rWAR | 9.4 fWAR 34 GS | 237 IP | 2.70 ERA | 0.98 WHIP | 264 K | 32 BB | 25 HR | 7.0 rWAR | 8.0 fWAR 31 GS | 227 IP | 2.45 ERA | 1.00 WHIP | 192 K | 59 BB | 15 HR | 7.9 rWAR | 5.9 fWAR
  11. 141 no hitters vs 167 individual cycles since 1970, who knows about team cycles.
  12. Only if Lauer gets all the outs though, gotta specify these days. I'd prefer Lauer for five then two each for Suter & Ashby. Southpaw special. Maybe even save all the offense for like the seventh inning so Suter can get another Win.
  13. With the Brewers win yesterday they now have a 14-3 series record since the All Star break. Their 35-16 record since the break is second only to TBR (36-16) with SFG (35-18) & LAD (34-18) the only other teams to have lost fewer than 20 games.
  14. It's insane, especially after 2019. His HR/9 is now at 0.30. Next lowest is Kyle Gibson at 0.68, which makes him closer to Julio Urias in 22nd place at 1.05 than he is to Burnes. His HR/9+, which adjusts for era, is 26. That lands him in the top 10 of those 6,735 individual pitcher seasons with at least 140 IP since 1947.
  15. Out of 6,735 individual pitcher seasons in the post-integration era (1947-2021) with at least 140 IP, there have only been a dozen seasons with a FIP below two... 1999 Pedro 1.39 2021 Corbin 1.58 (BEFORE TONIGHT!!) 1984 Gooden 1.69 1968 Gibson 1.77 2016 Clayton 1.80 2014 Clayton 1.81 1963 Sandy 1.85 1965 Sandy 1.93 1971 Seaver 1.93 2018 Sale 1.98 2018 deGrom 1.99 2015 Clayton 1.99 Walker Buehler is having a perfectly legitimate Cy Young caliber season, but Corbin isn't just among the all the time great seasons, after tonight he might be sitting in the number one spot.
  16. Yup. Brewers are currently 10th in average attendance... https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance And? How does that disprove my point? Most teams have worse attendance? Badgers were sold out week 1, Bucks were sold out with thousands of people outside. And everyone was talking about them. That's buzz. Maybe, probably, that will build as the Brewers march through the playoffs but it's not there now. Attendance is down across MLB. If you are expecting pre-pandemic levels it might be awhile... https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance/_/year/2019
  17. Almost nobody is selling out right now. Yup. Brewers are currently 10th in average attendance... https://www.espn.com/mlb/attendance
  18. Congrats to Corbin, Josh, Lorenzo, Jace & everybody else. One pitcher no hitters are fascist anyway, combined no hitters are more democratic.
  19. Joey Wiemer with a monster three run bomb in the bottom of the first.
