  1. Fantastic signing clearly. What a year the scouting staff is having. Tremendous.
  2. Most players often get days off that coincide with pitchers they don't do well against. Knowing that I just don't think him playing more against lefties is going to impact his numbers so much as to suddenly make him a below average hitter. Maybe not but it would definitely take him out of All-Star consideration. It would definitely nothing.
  3. With McFarland back and Cooper down, the TRats lineup should be potent and deep.
  4. For me, I absolutely put more stock into what Josh says about a guy, even his own, than any of the national prospect writers. And for people inexperienced with Josh, you probably think I am crazy, I get it. Super exciting stuff and great job the Brewers to find this guy.
  5. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists. Dominican Summer League Top 5 1. Franly Mallen - SS: Dynamic 17 year old infielder with impact offensive profile. 2. Nicolas Pierre - OF: Dynamic 17 year old outfielder with impact offensive potential. 3. Yosmer Leal - RHP: Talented righty averaging over a K/IP. 4. Joantgel Segovia - OF: 17 year old with .917 OPS through 77 PA’s. An unknown but outperforming higher profile prospects. 5. Yerald Martinez - OF: 18 year old with an .846 OPS through 115 PA’s. Leads team with 10 XBH’s.
  6. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists. Wisconsin Timber Rattlers Top 10 1. Clint Coulter - C: 1.5 years younger than MWL average with a 133 OPS+. Great kid. Great prospect. 2. David Denson – 1B: Eye-opening assignment this spring followed by a solid showing. Was on the Scooter Gennett path before injury. 3. Taylor Williams - RHP: Getting good reports with a low-90’s two-seamer. Tough guy to hit. Throws strikes. 4. Victor Diaz - RHP: Made the jump from DSL to A- in 2014 with great success. Projectable guy. 5. Barrett Astin - RHP: Good arsenal no doubt. Will he be more Jimmy Nelson or David Goforth? I see an impact bullpen arm. 6. Michael Ratteree - OF: Power shows up in games. Improved walk rate. 121 OPS+ despite extended slump in 1st half. 7. Chris McFarland – 2B: Career .270/.329/.411 over 203 games with 65 XBH’s and 37 SB’s. Now back, primed for big 2nd half. 8. Jose Pena - OF: Career .248/.319/.415. Adjusting to full season ball. Imagine how that WI April felt to some of these guys. MLB batspeed. 9. Omar Garcia - OF: Compares favorably to Johnny Davis but 4 years younger. Slap guy with big wheels and an idea at the plate. 10. Tyler Alexander - LHP: 2013 26th rounder averaging well over 1k/IP thus far. Loogy.
  7. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists. Huntsville Stars Top 10 1. Mitch Haniger - OF: Do it all OF with a similar profile to past Brewers prospects such as Khris Davis, Jon Lucroy and Michael Brantley. Not flashy but you can tell he is going to be good. 2. David Goforth - RHP: High leverage relief pitcher with two plus pitches. Could be best relief prospect in system. 3. Jed Bradley - LHP: Bounce back season. Looks like a capable major league arm again. 4. Yadiel Rivera - SS: Career .239/.285/.347 across 482 games with 29 homers. Currently 2.5 years younger than average SL player. Probably always been 1-2 levels too far ahead out of org. need. Stay patient on this guy. 5. Kentrail Davis - OF: Career .272/.361/.399 over 553 games. Would like to see him get a shot. 10% BB rate and 172 XBH’s. MLB bat speed. 6. Nick Ramirez - IB: Career .256/.316/.458 over 368 games with 68 bombs. More power than Hunter Morris. You get the feeling more is there if he could get his body right. 7. Brent Suter - LHP: MLB quality starter who profiles as useful but not impactful mainly because heavy heat isn’t there. Loogy floor. 8. Drew Gagnon - RHP: MLB quality arm with inconsistent arsenal. Very similar stuff to Taylor Jungmann with a little less juice and less success. 9. D’Vontrey Richardson - OF: Good candidate to heat up considerably as weather does. 10. Casey Medlen - RHP: Tiny, 6’0” 155 lbs. but can touch 95. Power bullpen arm.
  8. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists. US Rookie League Brewers Top 12 1. Kodi Medeiros - RHP: Yet to debut but I am believer. 2. Monte Harrison - OF: Incredible signing. Surely other teams were surprised we pulled this off. Just an .875 OPS that is OBP heavy through his 1st week+. 3. Jacob Gatewood - IF: Supreme talent. Good kid. If he simplifies a bit, he has all the tools. 4. Brandon Diaz - OF: 1.5 years younger than PL average with a 137 OPS+. Huge sleeper nationally. Already matched 2013 HR total in 126 fewer AB’s. 5. Devin Williams - RHP: Long, loose and with juice. Shaved off 2 BB/9 in 2014 while striking out a batter per inning. High grade prospect. 6. Tucker Nuehaus – 3B: Reports have been promising and the BB’s and power are up so far this year. Good candidate to have a big 2nd half. 7. Milton Gomez - RHP: Projectable guy who has had success at every stop. If stuff can tick up, he will skyrocket. 8. Cy Sneed - RHP: Pitching well in Montana so far. Has a SP repertoire. 9. Dustin DeMuth - IF: Very similar skill set to Hunter Morris with a little less pop and a little more contact. 10. Troy Stokes - OF: Spark plug type who will probably bat in front of Gatewood and Harrison his whole career. ++ Speed. 11. Daniel Leonardo - IF: Switch hitting middle IF with an idea at the plate. Dynamic. 12. Carlos Belonis - OF: Built like Carlos Gomez. Similar offensive profile. Huge potential.
  9. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community list. Brevard County Manatees Top 10 1. Orlando Arcia - SS: 3.5 years younger than FSL average while putting up 111 OPS+ as a slick SS is tremendous. Stud. 2. Tyler Wagner - RHP: Similar arsenal as Yovanni Gallardo when he was in FSL except Wagner attacks more, resulting in many more GB’s and fewer K’s. 3. Tyrone Taylor - OF: 2.5 years younger than FSL average while putting up 111 OPS+ as a 5 tool CF’er. Reminds me of a rich man’s Logan Schafer. 4. Jorge Lopez - RHP: About 2 years younger than FSL average. Bumped his stuff up a notch this year. Another notch and you have a top-50 guy. 5. Victor Roache - OF: Good candidate to catch fire in the 2nd half much like he did last year. 6. Hobbs Johnson - LHP: 2013 14th rounder is advancing quickly after finding another grade on his fastball, now sitting low-90’s, and his command. 7. Damien Magnifico - RHP: Has found success as a SP but I think he follows David Goforth to the ‘pen. Chance to be impact there. Very versatile guy. 8. Michael Reed - OF: Career .268/.377/.371 across 251 games with 69 XBH’s but only 4 HR’s. 9. Nicky Delmonico – 3B: Career .243/.340/.412 over 210 games with 74 XBH’s. Legit 3B who makes a lot of weak contact considering the 27 career homers. 10. Nathan Orf – Utility: Jumped two levels (R+ to A+) yet batting line remained unchanged. Could be an undrafted gem.
  10. Hey guys, seeing how our system is really breaking out, I thought it would be fun to rank prospects by current affiliate. Doing it this way sure makes it easier! It also helps me start building my tiers for our community lists. Nashville Sounds Top 10 1. Jimmy Nelson - RHP: Similar arsenal to Wily Peralta. Should find similar success which is very exciting. 2. Taylor Jungmann - RHP: Big league arm. If he can find just find one more gear, he will be an effective starter. 3. Tyler Cravy - RHP: Very tough to hit. WHIP well under 1.00. Another big league arm to choose from. 4. Shawn Zarraga - C: Career .291/.381/.384 across 400 games. His 32:12 BB:K this year is absurd. 5. Johnny Hellweg - RHP: Injured. Huge arm made for the bullpen. Could be a dominant ROOGY or set-up guy. 6. Ariel Pena - RHP: Very good arm. Will need to make bullpen next ST or likely will be lost. Stuff to do it well. 7. Hunter Morris - 1B: Major league bat probably headed towards a bench role. Would be dangerous as part of a platoon. 8. Jason Rogers - Utility: Career .283/.364/.446 across 459 games with 11% BB rate. 35/43 in SB which is stellar for a large man. Could see a Casey McGehee type career. 9. Jeremy Jeffress - RHP: Power bullpen arm. 10. Caleb Gindl - OF: Career .291/.364/.457 across 833 MiLB games. .232/.335/.404 in 65 MLB games. I actually liked Gindl similarly to Lucroy as they came up together but Luc found another gear. Solid bench bat.
  11. Don't hurt yourself. It has nothing to do with it. Anyways, if you have some unwritten rule that a guy with Scooter's AB distribution cannot make the All-Star game, so be it. I'll continue to point to his excellent per AB production and extremely good overall production in comparison to his peers.
  12. Altuve playing for the NL in the All Star game would be quite the story. The Astros are in the AL now. I will probably never get that right. Logan, Gennett is only a platoon player until next year. It has more to do with the roster with Weeks on it than anything. Anyways, the guy is out producing just about all his peers. This is fantastic news.
  13. Scooter is a classic 2-4 WAR player who will proabbly have higher peaks. This year, he is looking like a 4-5 WAR player. Tremendously valuable. Scooter's ISO is .174 this year which is tied with the phenom, Brett Lawrie, for 4th amongst 2B. His overall slugging percentage is a few points behind Ian Kinsler for tops in the MLB. I would argue that his only superior right now in the NL is Altuve and that he should be in Minneapolis for the ASG.
  14. But we have the 29-30th ranked farm system because we have no good baseball players.
  15. Compare Tyrone Taylor as well. Who would you rather have? Taylor is about 5 months younger.
  16. Look at Orlando Arcia's and Jorge Polanco's seasons thus far in the FSL. Which guy would you take? Keep in mind, Polanco is 13 months older. Polanco just got called to the majors straight from A+. I doubt any of the so called experts will even notice how well Arcia compares. Arcia just screams 2-3 WAR player with some higher peaks. Love it considering it represents the new wave of international prospects. http://www.milb.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp?t=l_bat&lid=123&sid=t503
  17. Looks our old favorite, Cody Scarpetta, is still plenty nasty. I am sure there will be feature stories but just caught this quick on Twitter.
  18. I think last we heard is that he flew out of HI Sunday. Team said he would debut "soon".
  19. Monte Harrison and the rest of that AZL team will be first thing I check every morning.
  20. Heyman tweeted that 28th Rounder Turner Larkins turned down $1M from the Brewers to go to Texas A&M. On to the next one, I guess.
  21. People used to talk about Lucroy has lacking "true impact potential". Wily too. Thornburg too. Jimmy Nelson is often described this way. Seid has my vote of confidence.
  22. "Our system here with the Brewers has been underrated for years," Nelson said. "We've got a lot of guys that are very under the radar. We all work hard and get our work done. I'm happy to be able to be in this group of guys. There are a lot of good guys in this system." Pretty much spot on and very encouraging.
  23. Tyrone Taylor and Mitch Haniger have almost identical lines. That is exciting. We need Sickels to get a sniff of Elvis Rubio now. What a season for that kid so far.
  24. I like the Pence comparison. Thinking about Taylor the other day and the comp I thought of was Logan Schafer. I think TT could have a little more to him though.
  25. However, it's not jumping the gun to say Weeks should be batting 8th in the order. Well, if you say so!
