  1. Remind me how you "prove" clutch? Your first reason was probably the best I have heard. Lucroy probably is just a better hitter over the course of the season. Speaks volumes for Jon.
  2. So what would YOU do? I would realize that he has been in a slump for 1/10 of his probable at-bats. And then I would recognize that isn't very much. Next I would remind myself of his pretty extensive track record of above average second baseman hitting. Then I would remember that the league is filled with much worse starting second baseman. Somewhere along the way, I would look for a minor mechanical adjustment realizing that the quick bat and decent approach are still present. I also would be thankful that the team was still performing well during his slump. Lastly, I would give him a day off. I know you mentioned the consensus but there were plenty of voices suggesting he be benched/platooned (so he didn't realize his option year), DFA (so the Blue Jays could pick him up), moved to 8th in the order, and many practically begging for him to be off the team after his current contract. This happens every year around here. Thankfully, the people in charge do not think this way.
  3. Try this; go back and read the Rickie Weeks thread from 2012. Nearly all of the pro-Weeks arguments still hold true. Next, take a look at Rickie's career stats. Then, familiarize yourself with sample size relevance in statistics. Lastly, take a close look at second baseman (and middle IF'ers in general) across the league. If his value does not become blatantly obvious, then you might be a kneejerker.
  4. It is beyond maddening. Pretty much started with FatterThanJoey and Brian leaving. They used to hold everyone accountable. Next you lose Pogo, Sessile, AndThat, Patrick, Russ and Sam and you just get a smorgasbord of nonsense, hindsight GM's, and kneejerkers. I think the best (and there are some really smart ones) of who's left are just tired of having to explain the same basic concepts over and over again. I searched past Rickie Weeks threads. There are multiple made every year going back to 2006. Most are negative of course. The ones that start positive, often are infiltrated by posters who hate strike outs. Seriously, why must Rickie be defended multiple times every single year? Do people not realize the state of MLB second baseman? Even at his very worst, there are not 15 second baseman I would trade him for. At his best, he is an all-star. Get over it already.
  5. Making changes based off of 2-3 weeks of at bats are what fans are famous for.
  6. I would say, best case, he could develop into a Kyle Lohse type. He will try to pound the zone with a variety of well located pitches. I would hesitate to expect that kind of success right off the bat, obviously.
  7. Hart and Lucroy had very successful minor League stats and careers. By the time they were in the system 3 or 4 years, there was lots of hope they would become impact players. This just simply is not true. There were some who thought they could be very good, but I found myself constantly trying to convince hoards of much more pessimistic folks. Lucroy in particular never made prospectors drool. But you do have a point, those guys had very nice minor league careers. So has Schafer, Gindl, Khris Davis, Thornburg, and Nelson. Morris nearly won a triple crown last season and Gennett has been an all-star at every stop. You are only helping me make my point.
  8. You talk like people haven't looked at it. I think you need to raise your expectations a bit for posters on this board. There are many who follow the minors very closely. Some who follow the minors exclusively. We need our scouting and drafting department to draft stars now and then not just average or bench MLB players. It isn't just individuals who didn't pan out. It is our whole MiLB system as a whole that is weak. You could start with this thread. I see you actually posted in that thread. Bottom line though, we need our scouting department to identify and draft Impact Talent™ not just MLB players. I'm not as new to the forum as my post count indicates. I have seen the same people make the same ridiculous assumptions about Brewers prospects ever since the big 3 (Braun, Prince, Yo) graduated. Seid drafts big leaguers. That is incredibly valuable. And he does it on a budget. To sit here an say none of them are impact players is rather ridiculous. Going back a few years, many argued Hart and Lucroy would never be impact guys. Whoops. Now the same people insist that Fiers, Burgos, Schafer, Nelson, Thornburg, Jungmann, Morris, Gindl, Gennett and Khris Davis could not possibly be impactful. It's really quite funny. Three months ago, folks were unwilling to call Segura an impact guy. You guys do realize how rare the Fielders and Brauns of the world are, right? Feel free to fawn over the Cardinals system all you want, but you must keep in mind that they have dropped much, much more cash into their system. Good luck to Hiram. He has had a meteoric rise since early 2012 and I can't wait to see what he can do. But please, if he is not great as rookie, don't write him off as a lost cause. That would be ridiculous and I personally am very happy that Melvin, Roenicke and the rest do not operate that way.
  9. Thanks for looking at that closer TLB. And you are right, any analysis needs to be more comprehensive. Maybe the Seid haters could remember that before they insist on complaining about the Eric Arnetts and Evan Fredricksons of the world.
  10. And I am sure you get to decide who is better than average? Let me know when Bruce meets your bar, k Logan? I am guessing this never happens. I could be convinced if there was some effort made to support his drafts or possibly supply a reason why he isn't getting enough credit. We landed Prince, Khris Davis, Burgos, Fiers and Gennett all in the 2009 class. All were outside of our top 6 picks. Every one of those guys are big leaguers. With Kentrail Davis, Halton, Cam Garfield and others still on the way, it makes me think people just are not satisfied unless they have something to complain about. That is one class. Are any stars? Probably not, but the star was plucked out from underneath us (Trout). Is the top of our draft a bit sketchy? Of course, but that's why they make picks beyond the 2nd round. People suggest Seid is incompetent. It's laughable. Show me 10 other teams who have more big leaguers from the 2009 draft. Show me 5. Edit: my point will always be the Seid drafts big leaguers. the flame out rate for draft picks is incredibly high.
  11. And I am sure you get to decide who is better than average? Let me know when Bruce meets your bar, k Logan? I am guessing this never happens.
  12. [sarcasm]Fire Bruce Seid! Wait, you mean he has knack for drafting big leaguers?[/sarcasm] Hopefully the perception tide starts to turn for Bruce. For me, he will probably never get enough credit.
  13. I wonder if Colby would mind divulging who the Brewers took in mock? Oh wait....
  14. You guys will not hear this enough throughout the year, so let me just reiterate how fantastic of a job ya'll are doing. Top notch. Another thing, seeing as how Magnifico had a good night, I just want to say what a pleasure it is to follow that young man on Twitter. Down-to-Earth, humble, kind and smart would be just a start of my description for him. He seems like a real gem.
  15. The number of armchair geniuses is pretty annoying. I have news for many; you are not capable of just whipping up a World Series roster. There are so many factors that people just refuse to consider. This team is going to get hot and when it happens, it will likely coincide with when we get Braun, Ramirez, Segura, Hart and Rogers all back to full health. 5.5 months left. Actually, more. People need to relax and stop over thinking all of this.
  16. I am so excited about this system right now. Just about every important bat is off to a great start. Coulter put one off the scoreboard after a Haniger double. Some of the back-end pitching has had it rough and the D has been suspect, but that has mostly been at the lower levels.
  17. All of the panicking is pretty outrageous. Same. Thing. Every. Year. You would think people would learn.
  18. Eye Black at Night, remind me, that thing is just full of gum and candy and tobacco and stuff, right?
  19. I heard Chris mention the Lopez reports from instructs as well. That should weigh much, much more heavily in people's minds than his performance today. He was much better after the first inning despite that 3rd homer he surrendered. Both of his walks were of the 4 pitch variety, but he was hardly laboring through AB's. I would expect this to be one of worst starts of the year. Better days to come hopefully. Still a ton of talent to like.
  20. Peoria has 4 guys with a W last name and 3 with a V last name in their starting lineup. "Whaddaya know, the Cardinals can string 3 W's together." -Chris Mehring
  21. Yes, I realize that. The fact is, it is pretty much a par-for-the-course minor league forum comment from that poster. And the comment was not really criticism. It was just a lazy assessment of an incomplete picture. Hardly useful at all. Heaven forbid that same poster actually returns and credits Bradley for righting the ship. Idk, maybe trwi7 will eventually. That would be nice, however uncharacteristic.
  22. Guess I dont understand this comment to much. 3H and 3BB's in 4IP isn't idea by any means but I think it was an encouraging first outing compared to last year. Limited it to two runs and had 4 k's no WP's or Hit batters. A 4 to 3 GO-FO ratio. I'm not jumping for joy but not taking in negitive. It's a start. Totally agree. Why even write that post if not just to be negative about Bradley and that [sarcasm]moron[/sarcasm] Bruce Seid? All the nice performances so far tonight, but all you can muster is a cheap shot at Bradley? Whatever.
  23. My absolute favorite thing about the opening few games is seeing how the lineups are being constructed. That T-Rats lineup is stacked. Michael Reed hitting 9th sort of supports that. Tyrone Taylor, Orlando Arcia and Clint Coulter having very nice debuts so far. Saaweeeeet! If that pitching staff can do anything, we are probably looking at back-to-back championships. The Cubs are really trying to run on Cam Garfield. Garfield nabbed Soler once at 2nd and Bradley picked Soler off once too. Bradley appeared to settle down a bit, but Chad Pierce couldn't make it through his 2nd inning. Thornburg is dealing and Hunter Morris smacked a 2B, of course.
  24. Why not? Those two things have nothing to do with each other. Yes he has. He's played in instructs in the fall and the spring. And we have reports that he's fully healthy. I do not rank strictly on potential. I have Taylor Jungmann over Orlando Arcia in my latest rankings, and don't plan to change that despite Arcia having substantially more ceiling than (anyone in the system including) Jungmann. As much as Brewerfan loves to follow all the guys who make the majors and remind us all of Eric Arnett and how highly he was ranked in the early going, the site doesn't generally hold themselves accountable for having guys like Amaury Rivas ranked in their top 5. By then the site is already focused on the next guy, like, say Hiram Burgos. To me, it's a far more egregious mistake to have a guy like Rivas way overranked after years and years of MiLB data and scouting reports than to overrank a draft pick who just can't adjust to pro ball for whatever reason. Rivas is not a good example at all. At one point he had the best change and control in the system according to BA. He was also routinely clocked in the low-90's while touching 94-95 while in the FSL. Injuries made him a non-prospect. The guy was legit good. That said, I appreciate your willingness to defend your points and I look forward to the next installment of your list.
