  1. Posting things such as this is so so dangerous.
  2. you are really ruining the whole 'his stuff sucks' narrative!

  4. That reminds me of the Mitch Haniger ST story from last year. All prospect writers see is 5'11". To heck with 'em.
  5. 1st sentance reads: "The Brewers did little to augment a minor-league system that ranked near the bottom following the 2013 season, adding intriguing but unknown talents like Kodi Medeiros, Jacob Gatewood, and Monte Harrison through the draft, and third baseman Gilbert Lara via the international signing period." Perfect Game (BP's Amatuer Player partner) rated the 2014 drafted trio at 21, 24 and 32 in the class and if you read any PG reports on Medeiros you might wonder why the heck he was ranked so low (32) to begin with. Now add to the mix a 16-year old power hitting infielder with a string of positive-to-giddy scouting reports flowing out of instructs. To cap it, you flipped Yo for Sardinas, Knebel and Diplan (well before this article was written). To me, those are the major examples with Wang, Stokes, DeMuth, Salas, and the DSL kids among others being wrognfully ignored too. BP apparently thinks the above moves are the Brewers doing "little" to improve the system. It makes no sense at all. They half-heartidly blamed some of it on the nature of rankings such as these, whatever the heck that means. How about you just tell me who has the best baseball players? If you cannot tell me that simple thing, you probably have not seen enough of these guys or talked to enough people who have. Enough with the hedging of bets!
  6. In that video, he dominated two very high draft picks, Nick Gordon and Michale Gettys. Gordon was the top prep hitter in the draft. You also saw how the catcher was having trouble sticking Kodi's offerings. If Medeiros can throw strikes, he will naturally induce a ton of weak contact AND rack up K's. That is the ticket when talking about pitching. If his stuff plays up for 6-7 innings, no doubt he is a SP long term. Fantastic pick by Seid. The fact we got Harrison and Gatewood too amazes me.
  7. When it came to Bruce Seid's Brewers, your best bet was to throw out all the internet evaluations and simply trust what Seid and Nichols were telling us. Bruce was always drop-dead honest about our guys, good or bad, and he was usually right.
  8. That is one hell of a draft pick Hammond made.
  9. Right, because the Brewers will give him a month off of spring training? Furthermore, I have serious doubts that his development is being accelerated. He faces his first big jump in talent for 2015 and I'd rather have him rested than messing around in meaningless winter league games (as far as I'm concerned). I bet Orlando would disagree with the these games being "meaningless". And hopefully that kind of player friendly stuff is important to the Brewers. These are real live people after all. From a development standpoint, these are high stakes games with plenty of big league talent sprinkled amongst the rosters. Additionally, these games can be a major marketing tool and relationship builder within those communities for the Brewers. I have zero problem with any of our prospects playing more baseball. That goes double if it leads to the a Brewers signing the next Gilbert Lara or Marcus Diplan. My last quibble, the kid went from the DSL to the MWL in one jump as an 18 year old. That is very significant and he did it after missing a year.
  10. Worst prospect writer on the planet. Years of bad top 5 round drafting? Good thing we have nailed a number of very good players outside those rounds! Pathetic. Stick with Baseball Prospectus folks.
  11. Stelio Kontos is the name of my fantasy baseball team. I am humming his theme music.
  12. I really think he is that guy and he has really earned it. Gennett (big $) and Davis (top 10 pick) at least have some pedigree. Lucroy was a an overlooked higher pick that snuck up on idiots. Rogers was a 32nd round pick. Nearly a 10% walk rate with a nice looking hit tool and pop. He's at worst a grade A bench bat.
  13. Hector Gomez has 15 homers. All this season.
  14. If you are a Brewers prospect, you have to do a lot to get recognition. And since the organization isn’t afraid of drafting oddball players like Gennett/Davis/Thronburg, prospect sites and scouts alike have that much more reason to hedge on those guys. That said, even guys like Tyrone Taylor cannot get respect. All anyone could talk about was this two-sport stud who scored like 30 TD's his senior year as a RB. Now, he will end up leading a full season league in XBH's while playing CF and he cannot even make a top 50 list. Taylor ends up being more polished than anyone thought, and somehow his ceiling has diminished. I am just happy that the Brewers are proving, repeatedly, that they were right about many of these guys. And I guarantee that their unforeseen success has taught many scouts a good lesson.
  15. 1. Tyrone Taylor 2. Kodi Medeiros 3. Orlando Arcia 4. Clint Coulter 5. Brandon Diaz 6. Tyler Wagner 7. Montee Harrison 8. Jake Gatewood 9. Devin Williams 10. Gilbert Lara 11. Taylor Williams 12. Jorge Lopez 13. Taylor Jungmann 14. Victor Roache 15. Yadiel Rivera 16. Jason Rogers 17. David Denson 18. Tyler Cravy 19. David Goforth 20. Sthervin Matos 21. Chris McFarland 22. Hobbs Johnson 23. Jed Bradley 24. Nicholas Pierre 25. Omar Garcia 26. Tucker Neuhaus In the mix: Hunter Morris Cy Sneed Damien Magnifico Ariel Pena Johnny Hellweg Michael Reed Elvis Rubio Zack Quintana Carlos Belonis Troy Stokes Daniel Leonardo Franly Mallen Joantgel Segovia Gian Rizzo Barret Astin Greg Munoz Jose Pena Edgardo Rivera Eric Williams Yerald Martinez Johel Atencio I think it bodes well that 11-25 and much of the "In the mix" lsit has the kind of upside that could make them a top 10 prospect in the system next year. Also, the bats are coming. Lots of them.
  16. The super young, lefty batting, premium position playing, former 2nd round pick, who is trending up in the second half while leading an entire league in XBH's squeaks into the team picture. Seems about right.
  17. Brandon Diaz doubles off 1st Rounder Kyle Freeland in the 1st. Comes around on a Rubio single.
  18. That's 27 straight scoreless for Tyler. In case anyone is wondering, Tyler has 2 plus pitches, an average 3rd, and has been dealing for nearly 2 straight years. BP is like, 'meh...Nick Kingham is on the Pirates'. BA is like, 'who?'.
  19. You make it sound as though his ERA for today's start was 9.00 or something. It was 3.60. In the PCL, that would actually lower a lot of pitchers ERA's. He also had 13 ground balls tonight to 0 fly ball outs. I don't expect him to turn the corner like Nelson as Nelson has the stuff to be an ace and Jungman just doesn't. But I would consider 13 GB outs, a 1.00 Whip and a 3.60 ERA a solid outing where your phrase that this outing "actually," lowered his ERA has a pretty negative connotation. 1. Jimmy Nelson did not turn a corner. He consistently progressed as he advanced. Kudos to the player development team there. 2. Thank you HiandTight for diving a little deeper into Jungmann's start. I imagine Taylor will finish pretty unevenly in AAA this year. Then next year, back at AAA, he will settle in and we will see him up in mid-2015. That is kind of his M.O.
  20. I totally agree that Nelson is better than many of the pitchers on the BA and BP mid-season lists. For example, the last 4 in for the BP 50 are RHP pitchers. 47. Michael Lorenzen - RHP - Reds 48. Luis Severino - RHP - Yankees 49. Alex Gonzalez - RHP - Rangers 50. Miguel Almonte - RHP - Royals Nelson has every bit the pedigree (SEC, 2nd round pick), the stuff (up to 96-97 with sinker, out-pitch slider) and twice the performance at least of any of these guys. Not to mention he is about to join a playoff rotation in the majors. Nick Kingham at #43 is described as this: "Lacking the ceiling of some of his fellow listmates, Kingham makes up for that with a high floor and proximity to the majors that could see him called upon late this year or early next. He's built to handle innings and has the arsenal to do it, and he should slide into the middle of the Pirates’ rotation whenever they make room for him. –Jeff Moore" Here is Alex Gonzalez: "The former first round pick has shown strong development and polish of his skills. Gonzalez flashes a four-pitch mix with an electric fastball helping all of his off-speed arsenal play up. Starting at the High-A level, he improved his command within the strike zone and ability to control the zone with his improved curveball. This led to his promotion to Double-A in his age-22 season. A mid-rotation-starter ceiling with a back-end-starter floor makes him a very intriguing prospect. –CJ Wittmann" Both guys sound like a poor man's Jimmy Nelson. BP should be embarressed.
  21. Great move by the A's. Prospects come and go. Now Oakland is a heavy favorite in the AL.
  22. Josh, why didn't Brandon Diaz start at full season ball this year?
  23. Just about everyone doing prospect rankings on the internet is a 2nd hand source at best. I have yet to find anyone who can consistently pick out the quality player out of a pack of seemingly AAAA players. It's easy to spot the Ken Griffey Jr's. The people who can that come to mind, Goldstein and Melvin, are both in front offices.
  24. Totally agree. Throw in Franly Mallen, Nicolas Pierre, Devin Williams and Tucker Neuhaus, another $3-4M worth of bonuses, and the message is loud and clear.
