  1. More recent reports have him working 91-93 as a starter. Jorge Lopez made the "stuff" jump as he used to be 90-92 and is now 93-95. Wang is a decent bet to see his stuff tick up slightly but probably not like that. Is this the year?
  2. Javier Salas must be a new regime fav. His issue in college was command. The arm and stuff are there. Exciting to see him already in AA rotation. If Wang or Ortega could just bump their stuff up a half a grade, they would be MLB rotation fodder. Early scouting reports will be important for them. Hader is the gem of the group without a doubt. He is a good bet to no-hit someone if he hangs in AA for long. I will keep my opinions on Coulter's prospect status on hold until all of this becomes official. Gotta figure he comes up as soon as one of the AA outfielders is bumped up. Might only be a few weeks or a month. He was by far the deadliest hitter from the BC lineup last year. I fully expect Betancourt to put up a .290/.340/.400 Arcia-lite type line. Cooper, Orf, McFarland and Ramirez will be spitting the AB's at 3B/1B/2B. I assume Roache will DH a lot. Hoping Macias is little more than a glorified coach at this point. Wren is kind of forgotten but he is a MLB bench type with a contact bat and speed. This is a heck of a team.
  3. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2016/4/2/11333890/minor-league-baseball-farm-system-rankings-for-2016 Yes, and Sickels considered the Brewers as part of the elite tier of farm systems. Consensus seems to have the Brewers in that 5-10 range of farm systems. I have to think they are #1 for future major league caliber player depth. Stearns is taking the cream will rise to the top approach with this rebuild. They don't have anyone yet who can hit like Mazara or pitch like Urias but the Brewers have a boatload of well-rounded prospects.
  4. That Biloxi team should be really good. The best pitcher on the field tonight will be Josh Hader and there is tons of AA experience all over the roster. Nick Ramirez, Nate Orf, Kyle Wren and Garret Cooper are all very good AA hitters. Plop Tyrone Taylor, Victor Roache, Javier Betancourt, Jacob Nottingham and Brett Phillips in the middle and runs should be plentiful. Macias, Shaw, and Berberet are nice bench pieces. I feel pretty confident saying this will be the best Brewers AA team I have ever seen. Cheesehead, you suspect Garcia over Johnny Davis? Clint Coulter had like a 125 wRC+ in the FSL last year. He wins biggest snub award for sure. He'll be up once Phillips goes to AAA.
  5. http://www.milb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20160401&content_id=170129808&fext=.jsp&vkey=news_t5015&sid=t5015 Man, looks like everyone is going back to Biloxi minus Arcia and Lopez. Don't see how Coulter fits either. Betancourt will get Arcia's spot and McFarland is odd man? Lots of surprises and a conservative approach.
  6. I figure Lara and Orimoloye are both still headed for Helena but who knows.
  7. Demi batting cleanup for the A+ squad the first two games is pretty neato even if short-lived. The McFarland vs. Betancourt placements will be interesting. Both should probably be in AA. The likely Harrison, Diaz, Clark top of the order in Appleton is must see baseball. Great to see both Segovia and Harrison back in the lineup day 1 after lower body injuries last season.
  8. That was so difficult. I considered about 80 players as being legit top 50 types and I am sure there are internal sleepers we have not seen shine yet. Good system with upside to be straight potent.
  9. 1. Orlando Arcia 2. Josh Hader 3. Trent Clark 4. Jacob Nottingham 5. Brett Phillips 6. Kodi Medeiros 7. Cody Ponce 8. Jorge Lopez 9. Devin Williams 10. Monte Harrison 11. Isan Diaz 12. Demi Orimoloye 13. Marcos Diplan 14. Gilbert Lara 15. Clint Coulter 16. Zach Davies 17. Adrian Houser 18. Nathan Kirby 19. Tyrone Taylor 20. Keon Broxton 21. Michael Reed 22. Rymer Liriano 23. Ramon Flores 24. Javier Betancourt 25. Taylor Williams 26. Bubba Derby 27. Angel Ventura 28. Joantgel Segovia 29. Carlos Herrera 30. Victor Roache 31. Jacob Gatewood 32. Junior Guerra 33. Jacob Barnes 34. Colin Walsh 35. Nate Orf 36. Garin Cecchini 37. Garret Cooper 38. Yadiel Rivera 39. Freddy Peralta 40. Miguel Diaz 41. Trey Supak 42. Brandon Diaz 43. Malik Collymore 44. Troy Stokes 45. Dustin Houle 46. Franley Mallen 47. Tyrone Perry 48. George Iskanderian 49. Ignacio Otano 50. David Denson 51. Carlos Luna 1. Orlando Arcia: Whip-quick bat and "flawless" defense at the most important defensive position 2. Josh Hader: Best stuff in the system and I think he begins his career as a starting pitcher 3. Trent Clark: Really hoping he continues to develop into a Mookie Betts type 4. Jacob Nottingham: Brewers see him behind the plate and the bat is advanced and potent 5. Brett Phillips: Multi-plus tool player at a premium defensive position 6. Kodi Medeiros: A very good candidate to see his stuff tick up as he gets older. Hader-esque stuff if it does 7. Cody Ponce: Stuff instantly translated and the arsenal is fully stocked 8. Jorge Lopez: Gallardo-like ceiling with just as much success as failure on his resume 9. Devin Williams: Another likely candidate to see his stuff tick up as he matures. Big velocity can be expected if that happens 10. Monte Harrison: Probably would have challenged Isan Diaz for Pioneer League MVP if not injured and he profiles at a more important position 11. Isan Diaz: Elite ceiling bat up the middle of the diamond will likely be a top-10 mainstay 12. Demi Orimoloye: How this guy fell to the 4th round is almost as big a mystery as how Giancarlo Stanton fell to the 2nd round 13. Marcos Diplan: 3 pitch guy with good heat and plenty of success in short season 14. Gilbert Lara: Physically impressive and a scouting darling. Would be sweet to see him have a second season like Isan Diaz did 15. Clint Coulter: The bat is clearly impact for me but he is a man without a position and a likely trade candidate 16. Zach Davies: Major league caliber starter who will have a sneaky good peak 17. Adrian Houser: Kind of bullpen guy at the time of the trade but he started pumping 95+ into the late innings with Biloxi. Now he looks like an average starter or impact reliever 18. Nathan Kirby: Future top-10 guy if his rehab goes well. Dominated the College World Series with plus stuff 19. Tyrone Taylor: I'm really not that down on Taylor. He has had some incredible statistical seasons while always being young. I expect a nice 2016 for him 20. Keon Broxton: Broxton, Reed, Liriano and Flores all look like average-ish major league outfielders with a few above average peak seasons if things go well 21. Michael Reed 22. Rymer Liriano 23. Ramon Flores 24. Javier Betancourt: I think his numbers at Biloxi will surprise some folks. Similar offensive profile to Arcia for some 25. Taylor Williams: What a bonus it will be to see Williams and Kirby ready to go next Spring 26. Bubba Derby: Gets a boatload of K's with below average nastiness. Similar profile to Mike Fiers or Zach Davies in that sense 27. Angel Ventura: The FSL is tough on hitters but the environment should propel a guy like Ventura 28. Joantgel Segovia: Clearly has a plus plus tool but the rest of the profile underwhelms. The bat makes line drive contact everywhere he goes 29. Carlos Herrera: Perfect example of a pre-hype pick-up as Herrera is a good bet to improve his stuff naturally through body maturation and coaching 30. Victor Roache: Dreamers see Nelson Cruz with the bat while realists see a backup power bat off the bench 31. Jacob Gatewood: The needed adjustments are obvious but I think he has a shot. The best thing for him is seeing the boatloads of quality talent around him 32. Junior Guerra: Very old but very nasty 33. Jacob Barnes: Very nasty in short stints after conversion to relief 34. Colin Walsh: Walsh, Orf, Cecchini all seem like average-ish bench options with a decent year or two as a starter 35. Nate Orf 36. Garin Cecchini 37. Garret Cooper: Will have to force his way to the majors like Jason Rogers did and he might 38. Yadiel Rivera: Great defender probably cannot hit enough. Nice bench option 39. Freddy Peralta: Lot's of K's as a young guy 40. Miguel Diaz: Good results matched with good reports make Diaz a good bet to rise this list 41. Trey Supak: Big arm who needs to tighten up his game or move to the bullpen 42. Brandon Diaz: Diaz, Collymore and Stokes all have nice patience with perhaps surprising punch. Its easy to imagine one of them rising up this list quick 43. Malik Collymore: 44. Troy Stokes 45. Dustin Houle: Very similar profile to Nottingham although it has yet to manifest itself on the field for long stretches 46. Franley Mallen: Good sting in his stick from an athletic big body 47. Tyrone Perry: Either Perry or Iskenderian are probably the low-round offensive gem from the last draft. Could be fast risers 48. George Iskenderian 49. Ignacio Otano: Very young and dominated the DSL 50. David Denson: 2016 is probably his best/last shot to assert himself 51. Carlos Luna: Very young and dominated the DSL
  10. Now or never for Nick Ramirez
  11. Hopefully he is baseball strong
  12. I'll take my shot with Kodi Medeiros. We need pitching. Badly. And he did a pretty solid job last year and the Rattlers had high praise for him. And he's 19. Eh, we do need pitching, and he certainly still has a shot, but his numbers wouldn't really qualify as solid last year. He's a long ways off and has a much better shot than Turner to never put on an MLB uniform. I'd certainly take the already top 10 MLB prospect over the lottery ticket arm right now. This is simply not true. He didn't give up a home run all year for heaven's sake. If anything was lacking it was his velocity and command. He is an ideal breakout candidate as his body is sure to strengthen up. Very likely he sees a velocity bump this year or next and takes off.
  13. Typically that would lead to a lot of home runs a la Dave Bush or Marco Estrada.
  14. That's fine with me as long as we end up with a top 3 International Draft Pick next year
  15. I would rather see us sign as many $750k-1.5M type guys as possible. If one of the elite guys like Lazarito can be had, sure, but I really would hesitate to overpay. Spread that investment around to mitigate the risk. I trust our scouts to get us bargains.
  16. I'm seeing a pretty exciting little Taylor Williams nugget in this.
  17. In one breath, you lament getting young A ball pitchers for aging veterans. Then the next you fret about losing Cy Sneed (A Ball) for a versatile youngster with upside at a premium position(s). I don't get it.
  18. It would take some serious guts, and I am sure it would tick off some fans, but you have to go with choice A.
  19. Good to see. No Brewer in the top 25 but we fill up the other tiers. If we can find our Glasnow or Gioloto, look out. Internal breakout candidates are in the system. A grade jump for any of Ponce, D. Williams, Medeiros or Diplan would be huge. I will be shocked if the first three cannot find success in the FSL. You could even call Nate Kirby a deep sleeper. I like our spot. Internal progression alone could make a huge difference and we have enough volume to have the odds in our favor.
  20. I find it particularly hilarious that this annoys people
  21. The AAA team is loaded. I would think Nick Ramirez will be there too which makes them even more deadly. Noticed you moved Nick to AAA now which I think is correct. The Biloxi team could be sneaky good if Coulter and Taylor put up some numbers. I wish Wang and Ortega could find another tick or two on their heaters. Lots of turnover in the player development staff so maybe. That Brevard team may average 2 runs a game but you gotta think Medeiros might go another year without giving up a bomb. Williams and Ponce will be some of the better pitching prospects in the FSL as well. WI is where most of our high end offensive talent is. I think Lara will probably be in the mix as well, at least until short season starts. Diplan will be one of the better pitchers in the MWL. Nice projection. This group plus the talent we are bound to acquire in next 12 months have me pretty excited. Edit: really hope Taylor Williams and Nate Kirby get healthy soon!
  22. I swear the naysayers have never visited the MiLB Forum here. If you were to venture there, you might just find a report which describes Herrera and Peralta both hitting 93-95 on the gun this fall as skinny teenagers. These are blossoming pitchers. Missaki is the most advanced and comps very nicely with a Zach Davies type. Great trade. Phenomenal.
  23. Chapman should be starting so if the Dodgers can convince him to do that, they hit a home run in my book.
  24. They have Demi Orimoloye ranked above Ian Happ. That makes me happy but give me Happ right now 100 out of 100 times.
