Surprised with some being annoyed or upset with the Brewers marketing the rebrand as building it around the city and fans. It’s a highly successful marketing strategy. Goes right with all their themes for their commercials. It is really the exact same things the Bucks did when they had an amazing role out. They made it all about the city, tradition, spirit of Milwaukee. Was not shocking at all to see Brewers do the same thing. From a marketing standpoint, I feel Wisconsin sport fans tend to have a strong affiliation and like to identify with our teams. Nothing wrong with that or marketing around it. Milwaukee Bucks really emphasized since Pete Fegen came in that it’s not about just improving the Bucks but rebuilding the city and bring back that city pride. Brewers followed suit. Kind of like a Make Milwaukee Great Again campaign. I use to write commercials and market coming out of college and the strongest and deepest response comes from finding away to create an emotional response and connection to your target market. Brewers do awesome with that! After I watch & listen to CC for 2 minutes on all those commercials I feel more Wisconsin & Brewer Pride. I’m a sucker for that stuff though. Not all are. Bringing the trendy “Cream City” theme into the mix was great idea. Mixing the old yellow with the newer navy is unique color scheme that is not often see in the pro sports world. The Ball in Glove is the logo imo the majority (at least 51%) of fans identify more with. The fonts look great. I won’t be buying a jersey for 350-450 anytime soon but I def will buy some reasonably priced apparel! I love what they did!

Free Agent Starting Pitchers (not named Gerrit Cole)
Jenkins5 replied to Eye Black's topic in Transaction Rumors & Proposals
Wheeler jumps off page to me since Brewers have linked to him multiple times over the years. Odorizzi is another one due to starting in our system that I had always liked to have back on team. I just hope we do something. How exciting was WS with 3 aces on both teams battling it out? Woodruff & 4 other guys you hope workout isn’t best approach -
I only buy BiG and/or the retro apparel so to me personally.... I’m on board with officially going back. I never got into the M and wheat or navy and gold. Really the Gold trend that took over in late 90s to 00s has drastically died down. Same with royal to navy. During that time from many professional sports teams moved away yellow to gold and Royals to more navy. Now we have seen Gold and Navy start to turn back. Marquette & the Rams are a good example. I really was coming around to the Navy & Yellow though. It is different combo you do not see a ton of. In no way do I expect a huge rebrand like the Bucks did (thought they did outstanding) but hopefully it’s good and something worth lasting awhile.

Good news is 2020 WR class is fantastic looking. 8 guys who very well could go in first round, 4 more not that far behind. Alabama has its 3 horses. They imo have the greatest WR dynamic in FBS history. Waddle is only a true Sophomore. Jeudy is most complete & elite route runner. Ruggs is literally a bigger Tyreek Hill on the field with 4.2 speed. At one point he had scored 22 TDs on only 73 touches! Smith lives in shadows a bit compared to them but as his 278 yard & 5TD game showed, he’s top notch as well. He has best hands & is a very good jump ball WR even at only 6’1. Then you think about Lamb at OU, Higgins who most fits the Packers mold at Clemson, Jefferson at LSU, the kid from Colorado Shenault. Johnson from Minny & Reagor from TCU get a ton of attention as well. There are some solid FAs as well with Cooper, Green, Robby Anderson, Josh Gordon is always a risk worth trying, still only Kumerow’s age. That’s just to name a few. Biggest mistake they can make is just hoping these guys pan out again & not going after a high draft pick WR or a Robby Anderson

Game 6: Lions @ Packers - Monday, October 14th 7:15PM

A win is a win! Calls went our way the way they didn’t in Eagles game. Adams out, Allison goes out, Tonyan who could be a big weapon out & we able to make it work! The Smith’s..... could Gute look any better with the way those two have really transformed this Defense? Preston is up to 7 sacks & Za’Darius at 6 through 6 games! -
Two straight playoffs. Yeli back. Hiura looks like he will be a stud. Braun Cain & Grisham form a really nice rest of OF. Cain is coming off career bad year.... that’s not him at plate, should rebound. Let’s see what Stearns can do with IF & C! Hope Grendel & Moose. Woodruff continues to get better. Burnes is far better than he pitched this season & think he can prove that again. Knebel back in pen. Stearns has history of making team better & filling it with quality depth. Excited what he does to get us back to playoffs for 3rd year!

If Cole doesn’t work out as I assume it probably won’t....Brewers have long been linked to Wheeler in trades. Could see him being a target but he is probably 2nd or 3rd best on market depending on if Strasburg opts out

Screw Joe Maddon [update 10/16: Maddon hired by Angels]
Jenkins5 replied to Brewcrewin07's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
I’ll admit one wonder comment is definitely not great description for what I was thinking in my head. They have been a really good team. We saw the building of this monster that looked like they’d be the dominant class of the National League. They were suppose to be nearly unchallenged in Central for winning division for years. 2016 with how young & talented they were, that should have not been their high point thus far. Have they been tough team & very competitive 17’-19’? Yes. Are they on the Astros (who they were most compared to with all out rebuild to 100 win champs) or the Dodgers level? No. If you are a Cubs fan you have to be disappointed & frustrated. Personally Maddon while he may not always be likable to opposing fans... he is their best manager in last century (factually if you look at wins & what they have accomplished with him) and I think one of best in baseball after you think about him in Tampa as well. Now Cubs have tax issues to consider moving forward. Still have most of core for 2 more years but they are all getting more expensive. There is talks about a Bryant trade in off season. They have one of worst farm systems. Also need to find right manager to move them forward. Their off season will be interesting. Overall I’m just happy they haven’t met their potential & carried over that dominance from 16.’ Been very good & have had nice run but going into 17’ we thought they were going to be very special dynasty & already looking for our window that’d open in around 2020 & on. Granted same time, going into 17’ we had no clue that our rebuild would yield results as quick as it has. Let’s go Cubbies, win last 2 for Maddon! -
Screw Joe Maddon [update 10/16: Maddon hired by Angels]
Jenkins5 replied to Brewcrewin07's topic in Milwaukee Brewers Talk
Just a quick note, that’s actually Herm Edwards when he was with the Jets Maddon is gone, their regulars help blow the season. They may need to make some big changes, mid as well give look to young guys. I for one am just grateful this Cub dynasty has pretty much been a 1 year wonder. Miss playoffs back to back years with the roster they have...they are on their way to some turnover. -
Think Sampson is now back at TE. He is a big boy now, they bulked him up to 280 to play OT so I’d assume, he could be a big blocking TE like Zander Neuville was. Got to feel for him to lose yet another season

Now there are reasons for her to go civil over criminal route. Civil for one is brought by the individual and they dictate the direction of case. Also you are not going for guilt vs innocent against defendant but that it is more likely than not of doing it. Also there are not damages except legal fees awarded for criminal case. So really your chances of winning are way higher in civil because all you need is 7-5 decision instead of 12-0 in criminal. Also you can get big payout for damages that you don’t get in criminal. She doesn’t need as much evidence either which helps chances because without reporting very soon after a sexual assault to police, evidence of proving become much more difficult. Criminal must be brought to court by the state so since she never reported to the police that couldn’t happen. She could go now but again more time that passes the more difficult it is to prove 100% guilt. The DA or prosecutor are in control of case & victim is only a witness. You aren’t going for damages, you are going to send that person away for what they did to you. Think OJ Simpson murder case. Won criminal case then got steamrolled with damages in civil trial by family after the jury felt he more than likely did it.

Went back and read her side of story as well of the claims. I usually do better job of that. That is my bad. Again lawyers can spin things to look very different than what they are and he has some good lawyers. The claims alone could get him 4 games suspension while NFL I remember when I was for Packers taking on Brown...wow lol couldn’t have been more wrong. He is just the gift that keeps giving in the worse way.
-
The response form his lawyer reads all kinds of shady. Seems real shady. I’ve never been sexually assaulted but unless she formed Stockholm Syndrome.... I don’t think driving state lines to come visit, asking for tickets from, and posting pictures with the one who had violated you all after the fact. Lawyers can make things seem false for sure and I haven’t read her side but as shady sounding as some Madison girls as of right now. mod edit

Mertz Redshirts & gets garbage time behind Coan next year. That still gives him 3 years to be the guy & show scouts what he has. That is if Coan doesn’t pull a Hornibrook, not develop & regresses. It’s not like Wisconsin is OSU recruiting a 5 star QB every year. Mertz is the future. It amazes me how frustrated fans get with young QBs at college & pro level for not starting right away. I’ve coached high school for over a decade & no matter how promising a kid looks as a freshman, he is better off playing down, learning, and developing. Eventually their talent will get them some time but there is value in preparing them. Stars mean nothing. You want to play early you need to prove everyday that you deserve it & are ready. Coan from Spring on got almost all the 1st team reps. It’s not because coaching staff just favored him. He proved it every day & didn’t allow for the talented Mertz or Wolff to cut into his snaps. If Mertz would want to transfer due to him as true freshman (don’t think is case at all....fan made issue) let him. Any guy who quits team because he is sore loser, doesn’t have a growth mindset, and feels he is above redshirting or sitting behind an upperclassman because he was a high school star is a guy I don’t want leading a team. He had his chance & will continue to have his chance to prove he should be out there. All these QBs these days playing the transfer game is a joke to me. Product of spoiled/give me mentality from an instant gratification generation. Internet tells them that they are so great over and over so when they get on campus entering situation they already knew was there and lose battle.... they cry & want to run to somewhere that will give them job based on name. Not all recruits but plenty of these high end guys. Some of these “elite” guys can’t handle not being told how special they are at all times. Tate Marcell at Ohio St (now Miami) because he couldn’t beat out the guys they had or were bringing in. Fields (UG to OSU) who knew Fromm was a Star, went anyways... of course he lost battle, so he ran away. I think Fields is at least talented but he was arrogant thinking he could go to Georgia and start from day 1 and wasn’t happy Fromm is better. I think Mertz is loyal & humble kid. He committed early, shutdown all those big schools like Bama. It sounds like he just assumes he will redshirt & has no problem with that. Don’t think he is one who will bail because he he wasn’t a freshman starter.
-
We will have to see how it turns out. They have two really good freshman who they must be planning on redshirting. Logan Brown was arguably one of the top LTs in country. Tippman was pretty highly regarded as well. Bruss, Beach, Seltzner, and Lyles are all sophomores & not sure how dominant they will be. Lyles was most highly regarded. Biadasz is on different level, he is a first round talent. Van Lanen was a better LT than Deitzen and Deiter. Cormac Sampson is interesting one. They have played him at DE, TE, OT, back to TE due to injuries and back to OT. Athletic guy taking the Edwards route. Hopefully he does put on so much weight that he losses a step like Edwards did. The bigger he got, the worse he did.
-
You lose four guys on the line who started a ton (understatement) of games and played at all-big 10 level or higher. Three who are on NFL rosters & believe playing. The group covered & was featured in Sports Illustrated even https://www.si.com/college-football/2018/08/08/wisconsin-badgers-offensive-line-red-robin-jonathan-taylor They were special. Now like every few years we need to reload. Talent is there, coaching is there, and scheme is there. They just need to grow together and gel. Van Lanen got a good amount of work I& is Jr. , Bruss (soph) made few starts as well but rest is pretty young and green. Erdmann & Moorman are seniors who haven’t been able to get on field much due to the 4 studs who left. The sophomore group has Lyles who played defense all season, Seltzner, and Beach who pretty much only got mop up duty last year. We started slower when Beau, Dietzen, Deiter also started out as well. I’m sure by mid season they will have right combo & just be steam rolling Defenses

Well in Super Bowl, hopefully the team they face gets David Tyree out of retirement to put a stop to that. Patriots 16-0 & Dolphins 0-16 in same division would be fun to see! Their schedule is not very tough. Jets & Bills won’t compete with them this year. Think both are moving in right direction but not there yet. The AFC north teams may offer a little challenge. Ravens mainly. Browns after today... no. Eagles & Dallas should be good games. Really though Chiefs are biggest threat. Offense is built for shootout. That will be a great game to watch!

Think Bellinger, Yelich, Marte, Rendon are in a clear 4 man race. All 4 have had great seasons and are by most measures the tier 1 offensive guys in NL. Media is in love with Bellinger & Yelich. Rightfully so and offensively Yelich is the best offensively in 19’ but those guys are right there. For whatever reason Rendon is always outstanding but gets little love and national attention. If you don’t look up the stats, you really don’t hear how great he has been. Marte is young and has made strides each year & took huge leap this year. Being on Dbacks he doesn’t get enough attention as well. If you give Acuna Jr either Rendon’s or Marte’s stats I think media & voters would fill up 1st place ballots. Voters have a bias to the bigger name guys. My prediction as of today would be 1. Bellinger 2. Yelich 3. Rendon 4. Marte 5. Acuna 6. Soto 7. Arenado 8. Alonso 9. Donald 10. Story In AL 1. Trout 2-10 doesn’t matter.... it’s Trout & only Trout ([sarcasm]so happy Brewers got robbed by Former comp system & Brewers getting Arnett instead of Trout[/sarcasm]
-
NFC defense going to be tough this year! Packers, Vikings, and Bears all looked like Top 10 or higher units in week 1.
-
That makes more sense now what you are saying. Yeah that makes zero sense to me to dock a guy for being on best team. Basically to me, Bellinger right now is Giannis and Yelich is Harden. Bellinger is best player on best team & putting up elite numbers on both sides of ball ( O & D). Harden like Yelich is probably the best offensive weapon in baseball (beside Trout but he’s in AL) but is not incredible on D and is on a lesser team. Both are legit MVPs. In no way should Giannis or Bellinger be docked for playing on top team. That’s crazy because they are large reason for it. Like Harden, Yelich can’t overcome the top dawg on top team votes and defensive importance votes unless he is clear as day superior & more dominant offensively. Harden wasn’t able to convince enough voters to overlook he didn’t lead team to top seed & he was inferior defensively. Yelich has same hurdle. He doesn’t save a ton of runs defensively & he hasn’t led his team to be a top contender. Where this reasoning is faulty though is in basketball 1 player has far more impact on a games outcome than in baseball.
-
Again.... Yeli & Bellinger are pretty close. If two are close, voters often will vote for one whose team was better. They don’t vote on WAR alone as you’d like. Don’t know where you are getting idea that anyone thinks they should dock Belly for being on better team....that clearly makes him front runner for the award. That’s the way voters often view it. For Yeli to win award he needs to not be close to Belly but separate offensively over next month. He needs to clearly be more valuable offensively to offset Belly’s superior D & being best player on best team in baseball. They have been neck and neck offensively all season. You can cherry pick stats to make legit case for both. You can claim that wins created is only thing that matters but that isn’t reality. Believe only 7 players since 95 (48 winners in that span) have won without making playoffs and almost all those guys were just on different planet statistically than all other players. Bonds twice, ARod in 03, Trout & Harper. Those guys had no one in league on their level. So again, if Yeli & Bellinger are still close & Brewers are not a playoff team, I don’t see him getting the votes needed. He needs to separate and be clear cut the best player in NL. Luckily Bellinger has been slumping as of late opening door for Yeli to do so. Him leading Brewers from behind to playoffs like he did last year will weigh nicely to voters as well
-
Brewers have not really helped Yelich for winning back to back MVPs. No matter how amazing you are, hard to win MVP on a middle tier team unless you are just that far superior. My guess is it has to go to Bellinger due to being closest to Yelich & being on a historical great team. Yeli really needs to get hot to end season to separate more from Bellinger to overcome probably missing playoffs. Help if Bellinger batting average continues to plummet rest of the month as well
-
Biggest winner today: Cephus Really excited for the kid! Everything he went though & had to battle to get back to this point. The decision to stay at UW & return. Has to feel great! All that time off and he looks just as good if not better than he did before the injury almost two years ago
